Dalhousie offers one of the few accredited commerce co-op programs in Canada. The Electrical and Computer Engineering undergraduate program is divided into two divisions, the lower division for the first two years and the upper division for the remaining two or two years and eight months.  A student may apply for and enter the lower division at Dalhousie University or at any of the Associated Universities in Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Island. The Associated Universities are Acadia University, Cape Breton University, St. Francis Xavier University, Saint Mary's University, and the University of Prince Edward Island. Once a student completes the studies in the lower division, he/she will obtain the Diploma of Engineering. Then he/she may apply for and enter the upper division either in the non co-op stream which takes two years to complete or in the co-op stream which takes two years and eight months to complete. The co-op stream requires a student to take at least three terms to work in industry while registering in the Electrical and Computer Engineering undergraduate program; as a result, a non co-op student will take two years to complete the upper division while a co-op student takes two years and eight months to complete. Once a student completes the upper division, he/she will receive the Degree of Bachelor in Engineering with or without the co-op designation accordingly. The tables below summarize the schedules of electrical and computer engineering program. A student needs to select and register one of the program schedules once he/she enters the upper division. Note that although Dalhousie University has a co-op office to help find the co-op work, not all the students can find the job placements for their work terms all the time. If this happens, a student registering with the co-op program may have to switch back to the non co-op program.  In addition, this Department offers the accredited Electrical Engineering Bachelor degree program with the curriculum options of either electrical or computer engineering. This Department does not offer a separate accredited computer engineering Bachelor degree program.

WHY STUDY RECREATION (THERAPEUTIC) AT DAL?

A one-of-a-kind opportunity to improve quality of life
Learn how recreation and leisure experiences can be used to improve the quality of life of people with disabilities, illnesses and other limitations. One of a few four-year degrees of its kind, Dalhousie's Recreation program was the first to be accredited in Canada by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs. You'll be prepared to write the National Council for Therapeutic Recreation Certification (NCTRC) exam to become a Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist (CTRS).

What will I learn?
The goal of the program is to provide students with the theoretical and practical skills to work in a variety of settings as a Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist (CTRS). Since we only accept approximately 25 students each year, class sizes are very small and you have the opportunity to work closely with faculty and fellow students.
In first year, along with the introductory leisure studies course, you’ll take a range of introductory courses in other departments, such as physiology, sociology, psychology and anatomy. In years two to four, your courses will reflect your individual interests in the program—anything from leadership and dynamics to community development.

In the final year of the program a 16-week internship, under the supervision of a Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist, takes you out of the classroom and provides you with hands-on work experience that enhances your studies.

The first two years of the Bachelor of Engineering (BEng) program at Dalhousie is made up of core classes that are common to all disciplines. At the end of the first two years, these core classes can earn you a Diploma of Engineering before you finish the rest of your program in your discipline.

Following successful completion of all required courses of the Diploma of Engineering, Dal students will transition into the discipline they chose at the end of first-year engineering. The third year of study will be when students at Associated Universities make the transition to Dalhousie's Sexton campus to finish their degrees.

WHY STUDY LANDSCAPE ARCHITECTURE (BTECH) AT DAL?
When you study Landscape Architecture at Dalhousie's Agricultural Campus in Truro, N.S., you'll learn scientific concepts and horticulture and design principles. Guided by experienced faculty members, you'll also learn how to apply these principles to the creation of innovative, sustainable residential neighbourhoods, parks, conservation areas, historic sites and more.

Real-world design projects require students to confront current challenges including climate change, ecosystem disruption and the need for sustainable human settlements. Project work emphasizes inclusion and the equitable treatment of all people, and celebrates human diversity.

What will I learn?
Students learn about ecological processes, plants, construction and maintenance methods, graphic communication and plan making for construction documents and landscape history. In a series of four design studios students apply their learning and develop their ability to shape natural, built and cultural places. Courses enable students to understand problems and design solutions that meet high standards for function, sustainability, aesthetic value and meaning.

Students develop new skills through hands-on learning activities in surveying, arboriculture, landscape installation and landscape maintenance. You will also develop the ability to create maps, models, and images used in professional portfolios and presentations. Program courses include:

The Animal Science major is designed to give students the scientific foundation required to understand and work with animals in a variety of contexts. That foundation begins with the first-year courses that form the BSc (Agriculture) core and continues in second, third and fourth year with more specialized courses.

In third or fourth year, Animal Science majors have the opportunity to select and conduct their own research project. Combined with Humanities and Social Science electives, these courses are the basis of a well-rounded education that prepares students for a wide range of careers.
 

When you study Plant Science at Dalhousie, you’ll gain a solid understanding of the ideas and methods used in biological, physical and behavioural sciences. You’ll acquire a very sound knowledge of plants, along with practical and life-long learning skills, all while studying at Dalhousie's beautiful Agricultural Campus in Truro, N.S.

What will I learn?
Plant Science will give you the knowledge and skills to research and investigate real-world problems associated with food security, quality and wellness. You’ll also dive into contemporary issues related to environmental integrity, biotechnology, plant breeding, sustainable crop production and more.

You will learn both the theory and practices related to the study of plants and their production. Your studies may lead you to expertise in many sub-disciplines such as fruit, vegetable, ornamental or field crops. You may focus on the genetics or physiology of plants or learn how to manage different types of farming systems.

In your first year of study, you’ll take foundation-building science courses in biology, chemistry, calculus and agricultural ecosystems and microeconomics. In your upper years you’ll study more in-depth subjects such as structural botany, entomology, plant pathology and soil fertility and nutrients. Students can tailor their degree to their personal interests by choosing from numerous electives.  

The program also includes production courses which provide students with opportunities to gain knowledge and skills focused on areas of production such as greenhouse and floriculture, forages and cover crops, organic field crop management plus many others.
