What will I learn?
Through the study of Music, students can develop expertise as listeners, performers and creators. You'll have the opportunity to take a wide range of courses from one-on-one studio instruction, to small seminars and large lectures. You can also study a wide range of instruments as well as voice.

Training in music teaches poise, discipline, creativity, collaboration and the ability to think on one’s feet. These skills are excellent preparation for many career paths in and beyond the performing arts.

WHY STUDY HEALTH SCIENCES AT DAL?
We’re a nationally accredited school that offers a Bachelor of Health Science (BHSc) in four professional disciplines: Diagnostic Medical Ultrasound, Nuclear Medicine Technology, Radiological Technology, and Respiratory Therapy. We also offer Medical Laboratory Technology in the Post Diploma program. We’re the only fully integrated four-year university-based program of this kind in Canada.

RESPIRATORY THERAPY
Who are Respiratory Therapists?
Respiratory therapists (RTs) are highly skilled health care professionals who help people with their breathing. RTs care for patients by evaluating, treating and maintaining heart and lung function. They treat all age groups, from newborns to the elderly.

Where do Respiratory Therapists work?
Respiratory therapists work in a variety of hospital and/or community settings:

How do I become a Respiratory Therapist?
The School of Health Sciences offers a four year Bachelor of Health Science (BHSc) degree program, which includes theory and practice. Students will take core professional development courses with a  concentration on respiratory therapy specific skills. A diploma option is possible after completion of Year 3.   The program curriculum offers the necessary competencies to challenge the national certification examination administered by the Canadian Board for Respiratory Care (CBRC).

You will learn to utilize the world’s limited resources by using solid scientific methods that measure and analyze the choice made by people and institutions.  The traditional way of teaching helps students to learn and utilize their skills and knowledge in the best possible way.  

Graduates of the program work in various fields as they can apply principles of economics to anything. The program helps you to shape public life and society as you may work as a policy advisor, politician, or business consultant. 

You'll have the alternative to pick courses that are more designed for the sociologies instead of the math side of the financial hypothesis. So, there is a characteristic association among math and financial matters that may rouse you to fabricate your math aptitudes. 

The first two years of the Bachelor of Engineering (BEng) program at Dalhousie is made up of core classes that are common to all disciplines. At the end of the first two years, these core classes can earn you a Diploma of Engineering before you finish the rest of your program in your discipline.

Following successful completion of all required courses of the Diploma of Engineering, Dal students will transition into the discipline they chose at the end of first-year engineering. The third year of study will be when students at Associated Universities make the transition to Dalhousie's Sexton campus to finish their degrees.

Studying Integrated Environmental Management at Dalhousie's Agricultural Campus in Truro, N.S. will offer you training in green science and technology. Founded on the four pillars of bio-resources - technology, energy, water and waste - you’ll gain the skills to create sustainable solutions to our national and global resource management and food production needs.

What will I learn?
Studying Integrated Environmental Management at Dalhousie means you’ll learn about real-world problems and how to solve them. First-year students begin by building a foundation in the core sciences of agriculture, biology, chemistry and calculus. In upper years, you’ll study technologies associated with biological and environmental systems as they apply to fiber fuel and food. Plus, you’ll apply your knowledge to solve industry-related problems.

Courses cover a wide variety of topics including agriculture, water and food processing systems, mechanics of materials, structures and their environment, renewable energy and engineering measurements and controls. You can also choose from numerous electives to tailor your degree to your interests.

In addition to classroom learning, you’ll take part in experiential learning activities such as labs and experiments. You’ll have access to cutting-edge research opportunities, advanced technology and exceptional learning facilities.

Complex issues like water and energy security, climate change and environmental degradation touch virtually every person, in every profession, in every part of the world. Studying Environment, Sustainability and Society (ESS) at Dalhousie will allow you to explore the links between complex environmental issues and poverty, globalization, consumption and urbanization. You’ll gain skills that will make you a leader and change-maker in your chosen career path.  
What will I learn?
You’ll combine your major in ESS with a second major depending on your undergraduate degree of choice.

Dalhousie’s ESS program has an interdisciplinary approach, allowing you to explore how ESS topics relate to other industries you may be interested in. The core ESS courses will help you analyze and understand a wide range of concepts relating to energy, water, climate change, population and more.

First-year students begin by taking general introduction courses to the concepts of Environment, Sustainability and Society. These courses will give you the background for more in-depth studies in topics such as environmental decision-making and global environmental governance.

This new type of education will change the way you think when you’re in the workplace. You'll examine conflicting positions on humanity’s place in the natural world. And you’ll identify, research, and address real-world problems—making you better prepared to meet the challenges of virtually any job in our complex society.

Pharmacists take medication histories, identify goals for drug therapy, provide education to patients regarding medications, make recommendations to other health-care providers about drug therapy, and much more. You'll gain the knowledge and skills to provide drug therapy toward improving patient health. The program’s curriculum offers problem-based learning (PBL) and other types of courses, which may include tutorials, lectures, labs, and practical experience in various settings.

What will I learn?
The pharmacy program delivers course content primarily through problem-based learning (PBL) modules. In the first year of the program, you’ll take courses in biomedical sciences, covering all essential subjects including anatomy, biochemistry, microbiology, pharmacology, and physiology. 

These courses are fully integrated in years two through four, covering not only the scientific side of pharmacy, but also the social. You'll look at such topics as therapeutics, pharmaceutical care, inter-professional relations, law and ethics, social and administrative pharmacy issues, and the role of pharmacy in the health-care system.

Engineering touches everyone's lives in countless ways. The opportunities in engineering are virtually limitless, allowing you to pursue a career in almost any field, in any industry, in any location around the world.

If you thrive in a smaller campus environment with average class sizes of 20 to 30 people, consider doing the first two years of your degree on our Truro campus. After completing your first two years (and earning an Engineering diploma), you will move to the Halifax campus to complete the final two years of your degree.

MINERAL RESOURCE ENGINEERING
Mineral resource engineers develop economically and environmentally responsible ways of extracting and processing minerals from the Earth. Mineral resource engineers evaluate the economics of mineral deposits; develop plans for surface mines, roadways and tunnels; design underground mine plants and ventilation systems; ensure mine safety and environmental protection; and develop innovative mine technology.

Neuroscience continues to emerge as an exciting, interdisciplinary area of research. It integrates psychology, cell biology, genetics, biochemistry, physiology, anatomy, and other branches of the life sciences to provide comprehensive insights into the structure and function of the brain. Our neuroscientists work in both academic and clinical (i.e. hospital) settings, providing students with opportunities to participate in research projects in a range of specializations.

What will I learn?
When you study Neuroscience at Dalhousie, you’ll study different but related disciplines for an in-depth understanding of the structure and function of the brain and nervous system. You’ll have the opportunity to work in research labs and engage in studies that analyze the brain and its involvement in controlling behaviour.

In your first year of study, you'll take courses that will provide a firm grounding in the physical and biological sciences. In subsequent years, you’ll take more specialized courses in the fields of neuroscience, psychology and biology.

There's no other program like it in Canada. Our Bachelor of Management provides an innovative and interdisciplinary program that combines information management, environmental resource management, public administration and business.

What will I learn?
Your first two years are dedicated to core courses in Management Issues, Accounting, Marketing, Ethics and Social Responsibility, Government Structure, Data Literacy, Economics and Statistics.

In your third and fourth years, you'll choose electives to tailor your degree to your strengths and interests. Choose from one of five majors (Entrepreneurship and Innovation; Leadership and Organizations; Managing Data and Information (formerly Knowledge Management); Public Sector Management; or Environment, Sustainability and Society) to focus on your area of interest, or stay flexible by doing a general Bachelor of Management degree without a major.

The optional paid internship for Bachelor of Management students is a minimum of 32 weeks (approximately eight months) of consecutive, full-time work experience related to your studies. It takes place between your third and final academic year.
