WHY STUDY LANDSCAPE ARCHITECTURE (BTECH) AT DAL?
When you study Landscape Architecture at Dalhousie's Agricultural Campus in Truro, N.S., you'll learn scientific concepts and horticulture and design principles. Guided by experienced faculty members, you'll also learn how to apply these principles to the creation of innovative, sustainable residential neighbourhoods, parks, conservation areas, historic sites and more.

Real-world design projects require students to confront current challenges including climate change, ecosystem disruption and the need for sustainable human settlements. Project work emphasizes inclusion and the equitable treatment of all people, and celebrates human diversity.

What will I learn?
Students learn about ecological processes, plants, construction and maintenance methods, graphic communication and plan making for construction documents and landscape history. In a series of four design studios students apply their learning and develop their ability to shape natural, built and cultural places. Courses enable students to understand problems and design solutions that meet high standards for function, sustainability, aesthetic value and meaning.

Students develop new skills through hands-on learning activities in surveying, arboriculture, landscape installation and landscape maintenance. You will also develop the ability to create maps, models, and images used in professional portfolios and presentations. Program courses include:

Learning for life in a tight-knit program

Health promotion is about encouraging the health and well-being of individuals and their communities. This program is unique in Canada, accepting only 40 students each year so we can develop a small, strong, well-rounded group of health promotion specialists. You'll work together in the program and in the community upon graduation.

What will I learn?
The Health Promotion program offers you the chance to take a variety of unique courses that will prepare you for a successful career. In first year you’ll take a broad range of introductory courses in the School of Health and Human Performance as well as from different departments including Computer Science, Statistics, Anatomy, Sociology, and Physiology.

Areas of focus
Students who choose to complete a degree in Civil Engineering will choose one of two distinct areas of focus:

  • Option 1: Infrastructure
    • Students who choose structural engineering and materials will focus on the design, construction, and maintenance of infrastructures, including buildings, bridges, highways, airports, power plants and tunnels and the materials that will ensure their resiliency and sustainability. This stream allows students to choose technical electives from any of the sub-disciplines in Civil Engineering.
  • Option 2: Earth and Environment
    • With a focus on water and wastewater treatment, solid waste management, and environmental systems analysis, students will learn to identify and design solutions to mediate and mitigate human impacts on the environment.
