WHY STUDY HEALTH PROMOTION AT DAL?
Learning for life in a tight-knit program
Health promotion is about encouraging the health and well-being of individuals and their communities. This program is unique in Canada, accepting only 40 students each year so we can develop a small, strong, well-rounded group of health promotion specialists. You'll work together in the program and in the community upon graduation.

What will I learn?
The Health Promotion program offers you the chance to take a variety of unique courses that will prepare you for a successful career. In first year you’ll take a broad range of introductory courses in the School of Health and Human Performance as well as from different departments including Computer Science, Statistics, Anatomy, Sociology, and Physiology.

After your first year you'll choose between entering the Community Health Promotion stream or the Research and Policy stream. In your final year you'll complete a 14-week internship; taking you out of the classroom and providing you with hands-on work experience.

We’re a nationally accredited school that offers a Bachelor of Health Science (BHSc) in four professional disciplines: Diagnostic Medical Ultrasound, Nuclear Medicine Technology, Radiological Technology, and Respiratory Therapy. We also offer Medical Laboratory Technology in the Post Diploma program. We’re the only fully integrated four-year university-based program of this kind in Canada.

DIAGNOSTIC MEDICAL ULTRASOUND
Who are Sonographers?
Sonographers are highly skilled health care professionals who use ultrasound (sound waves) to look inside a patient's body, evaluate the condition of various organs and record digital pictures.

Sonographers evaluate organs and structures such as the liver, kidneys, heart, thyroid, blood vessels, muscles, ovaries and developing babies. Sonographers provide a summary of what they've discovered and discuss their findings with specialized doctors, who use this information to make a diagnosis.

 How do I become a Sonographer?
The School of Health Sciences offers a four year Bachelor of Health Science (BHSc) degree program, which includes theory and practice. Students will take core professional development courses with a concentration on ultrasound specific knowledge and skills. A diploma option is possible after completion of Year 3.  The program curriculum offers the necessary competencies to challenge the Sonography Canada professional examinations.

WHY STUDY MUSIC AT DAL?
Become a professional in music, or combine your music studies with programs in science, theatre or information technology.  Here at Dalhousie, you'll get the theory and training you need for the future you want. You'll have the opportunity to study with internationally recognized musicians and music scholars and participate in regular performances.

What will I learn?
Through the study of Music, students can develop expertise as listeners, performers and creators. You'll have the opportunity to take a wide range of courses from one-on-one studio instruction, to small seminars and large lectures. You can also study a wide range of instruments as well as voice.

Training in music teaches poise, discipline, creativity, collaboration and the ability to think on one’s feet. These skills are excellent preparation for many career paths in and beyond the performing arts.

Pharmacists take medication histories, identify goals for drug therapy, provide education to patients regarding medications, make recommendations to other health-care providers about drug therapy, and much more. You'll gain the knowledge and skills to provide drug therapy toward improving patient health. The program’s curriculum offers problem-based learning (PBL) and other types of courses, which may include tutorials, lectures, labs, and practical experience in various settings.

What will I learn?
The pharmacy program delivers course content primarily through problem-based learning (PBL) modules. In the first year of the program, you’ll take courses in biomedical sciences, covering all essential subjects including anatomy, biochemistry, microbiology, pharmacology, and physiology. 

These courses are fully integrated in years two through four, covering not only the scientific side of pharmacy, but also the social. You'll look at such topics as therapeutics, pharmaceutical care, inter-professional relations, law and ethics, social and administrative pharmacy issues, and the role of pharmacy in the health-care system.

NUCLEAR MEDICINE TECHNOLOGY
Who are Nuclear Medicine Technologists?
Nuclear Medicine Technologists are highly skilled health care professionals who use radioactive drugs called radiopharmaceuticals to help diagnose and treat a variety of illnesses. They treat patients of all age groups, from newborns to older adults.

What do Nuclear Medicine Technologists do?
Nuclear Medicine Technologists perform examinations that evaluate how the body functions. There are many diagnostic and therapeutic procedures Nuclear Medicine Technologists are responsible for performing; the most common organs evaluated/treated are:

How do I become a Nuclear Medicine Technologist?
The School of Health Sciences offers a four year Bachelor of Health Science (BHSc) degree program, which includes theory and practice. The program curriculum offers the necessary competencies to challenge the Canadian Association of Medical Radiation Technologists (CAMRT) professional examination.

The public sector is made up of governments and their agencies, from the international level to the local level. It includes other publicly funded bodies, such as hospitals, schools, government corporations (CBC, Canada Post, Art Gallery of Nova Scotia, etc.) and many not-for-profit organizations. The MPA degree will prepare you for the realities of working in the public sector, where the internal environment (visioning and goal-setting, decision-making, managing, accountability and conduct) is distinct from the for-profit sector.

The Bachelor of Social Work encourages understudies to build up a wide scope of aptitudes and hypothetical points of view that are utilized in an assortment of occupation settings. You'll be presented to courses that grasp a basic and against the harsh way to deal with social approach, proficient qualities, hypothetical viewpoints, and practice techniques. 

Our as of late overhauled courses assist you with building up a more extensive scope of abilities, so you'll be set up for a more extensive assortment of profession ways. The students learn by doing: through labs, experiments, and growth trials, they develop a practical skill-set through hands-on experiences.
You see first-hand how environmental factors affect plant growth. You'll propagate plants, glean from the soil what makes them grow, and discover how to control and improve that growth. You also learn how to grow a plant-dependent business and your education will set you apart from everyone else in the job market.

After completing your first two years (and earning an Engineering diploma), you will move to the Halifax campus to complete the final two years of your degree.

MINERAL RESOURCE ENGINEERING
Mineral resource engineers develop economically and environmentally responsible ways of extracting and processing minerals from the Earth. Mineral resource engineers evaluate the economics of mineral deposits; develop plans for surface mines, roadways and tunnels; design underground mine plants and ventilation systems; ensure mine safety and environmental protection; and develop innovative mine technology.
