If you thrive in a smaller campus environment with average class sizes of 20 to 30 people, consider doing the first two years of your degree on our Truro campus. After completing your first two years (and earning an Engineering diploma), you will move to the Halifax campus to complete the final two years of your degree.

Mechanical Engineering
Mechanical engineers play an essential role in industries ranging from manufacturing to health care to the renewable energy, designing everything from medical devices to engines.

In our programs, our expert faculty teach how parts, machines and systems work and how to design and analyze them. Our students understand and apply concepts in solid mechanics, control and thermofluids.

In addition to building a strong theoretical foundation in engineering, you'll work with new technology and apply your knowledge in hands-on design projects.

Co-op Options
Co-op students take the same academic program as the non co-op program; however, our co-op option gives you an opportunity to complement your studies with three paid work terms.

There's no other program like it in Canada. Our Bachelor of Management provides an innovative and interdisciplinary program that combines information management, environmental resource management, public administration and business.

What will I learn?
Your first two years are dedicated to core courses in Management Issues, Accounting, Marketing, Ethics and Social Responsibility, Government Structure, Data Literacy, Economics and Statistics.

In your third and fourth years, you'll choose electives to tailor your degree to your strengths and interests. Choose from one of five majors (Entrepreneurship and Innovation; Leadership and Organizations; Managing Data and Information (formerly Knowledge Management); Public Sector Management; or Environment, Sustainability and Society) to focus on your area of interest, or stay flexible by doing a general Bachelor of Management degree without a major.

The optional paid internship for Bachelor of Management students is a minimum of 32 weeks (approximately eight months) of consecutive, full-time work experience related to your studies. It takes place between your third and final academic year.

If so, Small Business Management could be your next step. In completing the Small Business Management program, you will earn much more than an undergraduate degree. The program complements and enhances the technical expertise gained in your initial twoyear diploma program and positions you for careers in business management or ownership. With only an extra two years, students can build onto and transform their college diploma into a degree.

Whether you choose to focus your studies by declaring a major, or customize your degree to meet your career goals, you'll learn the basic business disciplines of marketing, accounting, finance, business management and organizational behaviour. You'll also gain valuable IT skills as you learn to work with spreadsheet programs, database packages, and other software applications used in statistical analysis, financial projections, and market research.

Pharmacists take medication histories, identify goals for drug therapy, provide education to patients regarding medications, make recommendations to other health-care providers about drug therapy, and much more. You'll gain the knowledge and skills to provide drug therapy toward improving patient health. The program’s curriculum offers problem-based learning (PBL) and other types of courses, which may include tutorials, lectures, labs, and practical experience in various settings.

What will I learn?
The pharmacy program delivers course content primarily through problem-based learning (PBL) modules. In the first year of the program, you’ll take courses in biomedical sciences, covering all essential subjects including anatomy, biochemistry, microbiology, pharmacology, and physiology. 

These courses are fully integrated in years two through four, covering not only the scientific side of pharmacy, but also the social. You'll look at such topics as therapeutics, pharmaceutical care, inter-professional relations, law and ethics, social and administrative pharmacy issues, and the role of pharmacy in the health-care system.

Materials engineering is indispensible in supplying materials to any industrialized nation. Materials engineers look at how materials are made; how and why certain materials are chosen for the manufacturing of different products like computers or cars; and how materials can be improved. 

Metals and materials are found in every aspect of society today. Materials have always been central to the advancement of civilization so it is not surprising that entire eras are named after them (bronze age, iron age). The importance of developing new, advanced materials is truly a global issue with societal demands for things such as more fuel efficient vehicles and faster computer processors reaching all time highs. Materials Engineers are the driving force behind such developments, having an unsurpassed understanding of the respective structure, properties and processing of materials. Consequently, graduates are employed in practically all industries. Principals amongst these are primary metal production, automotive, aerospace, government research establishments and consulting firms. Literally all graduates find immediate employment - historically, over 70% have secured full time positions before the start of their final academic term. These niche individuals are highly respected within the companies that they work for and many advance into upper managerial and executive positions.

Information technology is transforming modern business, accelerating discovery in science, revolutionizing medicine, and expanding the reach of social enterprises. The Bachelor of Applied Computer Science (formerly Informatics) provides students with a deep understanding of how to develop, manage, and deploy technologies and build solutions for organizations. Students are equipped with the knowledge to put their deep understanding of technology with skills to succeed in project management, communications, and management skills to bridge the gap between business and the growing IT job market.

What will I learn?
Develop solutions to real-world problems using proven technologies. You’ll learn to combine a deep understanding of technology with problem-solving, communications, and management skills. You'll analyze problems, manage and lead teams to tackle those problems, and communicate solutions and opportunities back to the wider organization.

In our unique project course, you’ll have the chance to apply your skills to tackle problems and opportunities for real non-profit clients from our community. And you can enhance your studies with career-focused co-op work experience.  

While studying at our Agricultural Campus in Truro, you gain insights into problem solving, diagnostics and whole-system analysis. You learn business and science in the context of social and environmental responsibility, using sustainable production systems. You acquire a theoretical knowledge of plants. 

The students learn by doing: through labs, experiments, and growth trials, they develop a practical skill-set through hands-on experiences.
You see first-hand how environmental factors affect plant growth. You'll propagate plants, glean from the soil what makes them grow, and discover how to control and improve that growth. You also learn how to grow a plant-dependent business and your education will set you apart from everyone else in the job market.

With a degree in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, you’ll study the building blocks of life. Learn from professors who are conducting exciting research in evolutionary and genome biology and the metabolic basis of disease and cancer. What will I learn?
Biochemistry and Molecular Biology are the molecular basis of life. You’ll get a deeper understanding of the biological function of large molecules such as proteins and DNA and interpret complex processes that define all living organisms.

You'll begin with foundation courses in biology and chemistry. Then, after an introduction to biochemistry theory and laboratory skills, you'll begin specialization in areas of biochemistry and molecular biology.  In fourth year, you'll have the opportunity to complete an honours project, gaining experience in hands-on laboratory research. Students will also have the opportunity to complete work terms through the co-op education program.
