The Environmental Sciences program offered through Dalhousie's Faculty of Agriculture at the Agricultural Campus in Truro, N.S. can get you there. Our program teaches students to analyze complex environmental issues and develop practical solutions that consider the impacts on the environment, society and our economy.

What will I learn?
Dalhousie’s Environmental Sciences program is a multi-disciplinary program that offers diverse courses, personalized attention and quality instruction. It merges the physical and natural sciences to give you a unique and marketable education.

Alongside the core sciences, you'll also learn about ecosystems, conservation, water quality, waste reduction, site remediation and resource management and policy. You’ll put your classroom learning into practice through lab and field work. You'll also get an opportunity to practice environmental sampling and analysis.

Once students have identified their personal interests, they’ll be able to select one of the following specializations for their degree: Environmental Biology, Environmental Chemistry, Environmental Economics, Environmental Soil Sciences, Pest Management (minor) or Waste Management.

The Bachelor of Technology Environmental Landscape Horticulture is designed to prepare students for a career in the landscape horticulture profession. It will prepare students to work successfully in the diverse landscape industry or to create their own business within the industry. Years one and two of the program are satisfied by the successful completion of the Diploma of Technology - Managed Landscapes or a two year landscape-related program approved by the Department of Environmental Sciences. Students who wish to pursue graduate studies should take RESM 4006.03 and RESM 4007.03.

What will I learn?
Whether you choose to focus your studies by declaring a major, or customize your degree to meet your career goals, you'll learn the basic business disciplines of marketing, accounting, finance, business management and organizational behaviour. You'll also gain valuable IT skills as you learn to work with spreadsheet programs, database packages, and other software applications used in statistical analysis, financial projections, and market research.

On the off chance that you are interested in acting, directing, playwriting or analyzing theatre or film then the Bachelor of Arts-Theatre program at Dalhousie University is the best option for you. The Department of Theatre has a wide range of courses to start your career in Acting, Stage Design and Technical Theatre and Theatre Studies. 

Students will be learning about film editing, art direction and also will have opportunities to apply their skills in labs for set construction, lighting, props, and sound.  After completing the program you may have a wide variety of career opportunities like director, playwright, actor, technician or designer in the professional theatre in Canada.  You may also work as a high school drama teacher, or as art administration in the theatre and film industries.

The Bachelor of Applied Computer Science (formerly Informatics) provides students with a deep understanding of how to develop, manage, and deploy technologies and build solutions for organizations. Students are equipped with the knowledge to put their deep understanding of technology with skills to succeed in project management, communications, and management skills to bridge the gap between business and the growing IT job market.

What will I learn?
Develop solutions to real-world problems using proven technologies. You’ll learn to combine a deep understanding of technology with problem-solving, communications, and management skills. You'll analyze problems, manage and lead teams to tackle those problems, and communicate solutions and opportunities back to the wider organization.

Discover the complexity of the human mind
Psychology encompasses all aspects of human and animal behaviour. Dalhousie offers the largest Psychology department in the region and you'll have plenty of opportunities to get involved in research. In addition to offering insight into the way people think and behave, our program will provide you with skills in critical and analytical thinking that will serve you in any of your future career paths.

What will I learn?
If you’ve ever wondered why we do the things we do or how people think, behave and interact with others, then you’ve wondered about topics studied in psychology. When you study psychology at Dalhousie, you'll learn about experimental design, statistical analysis, brain function, language development, learning mechanisms, psychopathology and treatment and more.

In your first year of study, you'll take introductory courses in psychology and neuroscience to provide you with a foundation for more in-depth studies in upper years. Fourth-year students will have the opportunity to complete their own honours research project to discover topics that are of personal interest.

The discipline of earth sciences play a crucial role in answering questions like these about today's complex world. Studying earth sciences gives you insights into the Earth's evolution, composition, processes, and future.

Field work is an important part of Dal’s Earth Sciences program. You'll explore the fascinating and diverse geology of Nova Scotia, or take part in an off-site computing camp. Taking Advanced Field School provides you with opportunities for in-depth study abroad, in countries such as Italy, Chile, or England. The public sector is made up of governments and their agencies, from the international level to the local level. It includes other publicly funded bodies, such as hospitals, schools, government corporations (CBC, Canada Post, Art Gallery of Nova Scotia, etc.) and many not-for-profit organizations. The MPA degree will prepare you for the realities of working in the public sector, where the internal environment (visioning and goal-setting, decision-making, managing, accountability and conduct) is distinct from the for-profit sector.

WHY STUDY RECREATION (THERAPEUTIC) AT DAL?

A one-of-a-kind opportunity to improve quality of life
Learn how recreation and leisure experiences can be used to improve the quality of life of people with disabilities, illnesses and other limitations. One of a few four-year degrees of its kind, Dalhousie's Recreation program was the first to be accredited in Canada by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs. You'll be prepared to write the National Council for Therapeutic Recreation Certification (NCTRC) exam to become a Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist (CTRS).

What will I learn?
The goal of the program is to provide students with the theoretical and practical skills to work in a variety of settings as a Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist (CTRS). Since we only accept approximately 25 students each year, class sizes are very small and you have the opportunity to work closely with faculty and fellow students.
In first year, along with the introductory leisure studies course, you’ll take a range of introductory courses in other departments, such as physiology, sociology, psychology and anatomy. In years two to four, your courses will reflect your individual interests in the program—anything from leadership and dynamics to community development.

In the final year of the program a 16-week internship, under the supervision of a Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist, takes you out of the classroom and provides you with hands-on work experience that enhances your studies.

If you thrive in a smaller campus environment with average class sizes of 20 to 30 people, consider doing the first two years of your degree on our Truro campus. After completing your first two years (and earning an Engineering diploma), you will move to the Halifax campus to complete the final two years of your degree.

Mechanical Engineering
Mechanical engineers play an essential role in industries ranging from manufacturing to health care to the renewable energy, designing everything from medical devices to engines.

In our programs, our expert faculty teach how parts, machines and systems work and how to design and analyze them. Our students understand and apply concepts in solid mechanics, control and thermofluids.

In addition to building a strong theoretical foundation in engineering, you'll work with new technology and apply your knowledge in hands-on design projects.
