Pharmacists take medication histories, identify goals for drug therapy, provide education to patients regarding medications, make recommendations to other health-care providers about drug therapy, and much more. You'll gain the knowledge and skills to provide drug therapy toward improving patient health. The program’s curriculum offers problem-based learning (PBL) and other types of courses, which may include tutorials, lectures, labs, and practical experience in various settings.

What will I learn?
The pharmacy program delivers course content primarily through problem-based learning (PBL) modules. In the first year of the program, you’ll take courses in biomedical sciences, covering all essential subjects including anatomy, biochemistry, microbiology, pharmacology, and physiology. 

These courses are fully integrated in years two through four, covering not only the scientific side of pharmacy, but also the social. You'll look at such topics as therapeutics, pharmaceutical care, inter-professional relations, law and ethics, social and administrative pharmacy issues, and the role of pharmacy in the health-care system.

Dalhousie's Agricultural Business program is where science meets business, bringing the best of both worlds together. At the Agricultural Campus in Truro, N.S., you'll experience a hands-on scientific education with practical work in the lab and in the field.

Agricultural Business introduces current issues, challenges and opportunities in the agricultural and related sectors to prepare you for a rewarding career. Courses cover business management, natural science and agriculture, so you can approach these industries with a well-rounded foundation of essential knowledge.

WHY STUDY HEALTH SCIENCES AT DAL?
We’re a nationally accredited school that offers a Bachelor of Health Science (BHSc) in four professional disciplines: Diagnostic Medical Ultrasound, Nuclear Medicine Technology, Radiological Technology, and Respiratory Therapy. We also offer Medical Laboratory Technology in the Post Diploma program. We’re the only fully integrated four-year university-based program of this kind in Canada.

DIAGNOSTIC MEDICAL ULTRASOUND
Who are Sonographers?
Sonographers are highly skilled health care professionals who use ultrasound (sound waves) to look inside a patient's body, evaluate the condition of various organs and record digital pictures.

Sonographers evaluate organs and structures such as the liver, kidneys, heart, thyroid, blood vessels, muscles, ovaries and developing babies. Sonographers provide a summary of what they've discovered and discuss their findings with specialized doctors, who use this information to make a diagnosis.

 How do I become a Sonographer?
The School of Health Sciences offers a four year Bachelor of Health Science (BHSc) degree program, which includes theory and practice. Students will take core professional development courses with a concentration on ultrasound specific knowledge and skills. A diploma option is possible after completion of Year 3.  The program curriculum offers the necessary competencies to challenge the Sonography Canada professional examinations.

Students are equipped with the knowledge to put their deep understanding of technology with skills to succeed in project management, communications, and management skills to bridge the gap between business and the growing IT job market.

What will I learn?
Develop solutions to real-world problems using proven technologies. You’ll learn to combine a deep understanding of technology with problem-solving, communications, and management skills. You'll analyze problems, manage and lead teams to tackle those problems, and communicate solutions and opportunities back to the wider organization.

The Environmental Sciences program offered through Dalhousie's Faculty of Agriculture at the Agricultural Campus in Truro, N.S. can get you there. Our program teaches students to analyze complex environmental issues and develop practical solutions that consider the impacts on the environment, society and our economy.

What will I learn?
Dalhousie’s Environmental Sciences program is a multi-disciplinary program that offers diverse courses, personalized attention and quality instruction. It merges the physical and natural sciences to give you a unique and marketable education.

Alongside the core sciences, you'll also learn about ecosystems, conservation, water quality, waste reduction, site remediation and resource management and policy. You’ll put your classroom learning into practice through lab and field work. You'll also get an opportunity to practice environmental sampling and analysis.

Once students have identified their personal interests, they’ll be able to select one of the following specializations for their degree: Environmental Biology, Environmental Chemistry, Environmental Economics, Environmental Soil Sciences, Pest Management (minor) or Waste Management.

After completing your first two years (and earning an Engineering diploma), you will move to the Halifax campus to complete the final two years of your degree.

MINERAL RESOURCE ENGINEERING
Mineral resource engineers develop economically and environmentally responsible ways of extracting and processing minerals from the Earth. Mineral resource engineers evaluate the economics of mineral deposits; develop plans for surface mines, roadways and tunnels; design underground mine plants and ventilation systems; ensure mine safety and environmental protection; and develop innovative mine technology.

Co-op options
Co-op students take the same academic program as the non co-op program; however, our co-op option gives you an opportunity to complement your studies with three paid work terms.

Gain a deep understanding of the theory, design and application of computer science by exploring a wide range of areas including software development, algorithms, networking and artificial intelligence.

By the end of your degree, you will have the knowledge and skills to build, influence and evaluate technology.
