Civil engineers build and improve communities by providing essential infrastructure, solving environmental problems caused by industrialization and resource consumption, and by mitigating natural disasters. Learning in state-of-the-art Civil engineering facilities, you will take classes such as structural analysis, wind engineering, geotechnical design, international development and environmental engineering. This program prepares you to design and construct challenging structures, improve the environment and quality of life for the future and have a global perspective on development and sustainability

Theatre Studies is a multidisciplinary liberal arts program with a diverse mix of classroom learning through field trips, intimate lectures and seminar classes delivered in conjunction with established theatre organizations. Students have the opportunity to study theatre abroad through our popular Destination Theatre course and learn onsite with renowned theatre coaches at Stratford Festival. Our Fall Production course is also of interest to students keen to pursue careers in theatre practice, students looking for a drama teachable, or students seeking graduate training in theatre and performance studies.

Our programs in Middle East Studies offer students the opportunity to gain expertise in the Middle East and develop analytical skills of contemporary politics and business opportunities. The region has an economic growth potential for investments, markets, innovation and skills development.

The concentrated program of studies is aimed to provide students with the opportunity to specialize in the Middle East. The program offers the possibility to enrol in a combination of courses related to the Middle East from such disciplines as History, Sociology, Economics, Anthropology, Political Science, Religious studies and Modern Languages. One may choose a Major in Middle East studies (7 courses) or a Minor in History with specialization in the Middle East (4 courses). Students can also opt for specialization in only one of these disciplines: Religious Studies, Modern Languages, History, Social Studies or Politics of the Middle East.

Epidemiology and Biostatistics trains students to understand why some people get sick and others do not, why rates of disease vary by person, place and time and to learn how to investigate disease causation, prevention and intervention. Develop skills to contribute to health policy by providing data relevant to health promotion and illness-prevention programs. Study areas concerned with the determinants and distribution of diseases in human populations while discovering new statistical methods for collecting, analyzing and interpreting data.

The first year for all Bachelor of Music students includes courses in Music Theory, Music History, Music Skills (Sight-singing, Ear-training, and Keyboard Harmony), a half-course in music composition, teaching & learning, or popular music & culture, a half-course music or non-music elective and a half-course elective from outside the Don Wright Faculty of Music. Bachelor of Music students also receive weekly hour-long lessons plus regular masterclasses and ensemble experience.

In the Bachelor of Music (Honours) programs, a specific area of study is normally selected towards the end of the first year, when the student has had the opportunity to assess particular strengths and interests. It is also possible to continue in a general Bachelor of Music program without selecting a specific concentration.

Discover how the immune system protects us from infections micro-organisms and cancer cells to maintain our health, yet can cause disorders like autoimmune diseases and allergies. Learn about antimicrobial therapies, vaccine strategies/challenges and lab techniques used to identify bacteria and measure immune health.

The Honors Specialization in Health Sciences with Biology is designed for students who want to combine the socio-cultural perspectives on health offered in Health Sciences courses with the life sciences (Chemistry, Biochemistry and Biology). This module is ideal for students who want to pursue careers in medicine and dentistry. Approximately half of the module’s courses cover key Health Sciences topics such as health ethics, health promotion, childhood and adolescent health, health in aging populations, and anatomy. The other half of the module is made up of core life sciences courses, covering topics such as organic chemistry, biochemistry, and genetics.

The most important alphabet on Earth is its smallest — the four letter code of DNA.  How hereditary information is conveyed using such a small code began to be understood by studying organisms in which something was wrong (mutants).  Today this traditional approach is complemented by molecular genetics, which takes advantage of a wealth of DNA sequence information as well as technologies that allows one to easily disrupt and replace specific genes. As a student, you can take a range of courses focused on gene structure, function and regulation that are taught using a range of animal, plant and microbial systems. Courses in genetic engineering, developmental genetics, behavioral genetics, and evolutionary genetics convey the importance of the smallest alphabet has an all aspects of life.

Western's new Creative Arts and Production (CAP) program is a unique, student-centred option that focuses on creativity, creative practice and collaboration.

As a CAP student, you will be registered in one of three home faculties - the Faculty of Arts and Humanities, the Faculty of Information and Media Studies, or the Don Wright Faculty of Music - while taking advantage of expertise and resources across all three faculties. You will work towards a degree that integrates both theory and production as you select from a broad range of elective courses within arts, media studies, and music.

The most flexible module option within the School of Health Studies, the modules in Health Sciences give students the opportunity to learn about and experience a broad range of topics that relate to health across the lifespan. Students in the Major, Specialization or Honors Specialization Health Sciences can expect to learn about youth and adolescent health, health in aging populations, health promotion, and health ethics. In their upper years, they may choose from a diverse selection of courses, ranging from disease mechanisms and embryology, to social media and health, healthcare law, and sexuality, gender and health.
