These modules help students understand the fundamental factors associated with identifying, treating, and rehabilitating members of society with a goal of improving quality of life. Rehabilitation Sciences explores the theories underlying rehabilitation of children and adults as well as studying the impact and effects of mental health, disease, and human movement. See the bottom of this page for information regarding the Minor in Rehabilitation Sciences. Students wishing to pursue careers in Physical Therapy or Occupational Therapy find the modules in Rehabilitation Sciences offer an excellent knowledge foundation that they can build upon in their graduate studies.

Anthropology is the study of humans in all our social, cultural, linguistic, and biological diversity and complexity.  The four subfields of Anthropology (Archaeology, Biological Anthropology, Linguistic Anthropology, and Sociocultural Anthropology) are united by shared perspectives on how we study the full breadth of humanity. 

Are you interested in understanding the universe and our place in it? Consider studying astrophysics at Western! Through the interaction of light and matter, you can access the universe through observatories around the world and in space. Astrophysicists at Western will help you explore black holes, exoplanets, meteors, the atmospheres of Earth and other planets, the dust and gas between the stars, and the evolution of galaxies over cosmic time. With the skills acquired in this module, our graduates stand out with their involvement in cutting-edge research, including the recent discovery of gravitational waves and new planets beyond our solar system.

Italian is a vibrant area of study. In addition to offering language instruction at all levels, the Italian Studies program is committed to introducing students to the richness of Italian culture and the multifaceted reality of contemporary Italy. The program’s offerings include a wide array of language, literature and culture courses, both in Italian and in English.

Explore the dynamics that shape your everyday experiences as a gendered person in contemporary culture. In our courses you will learn how to develop a critical perspective that takes factors such as sex, gender, sexuality, race, class and (dis)ability into account. You might find your worldview transformed as you apply these perspectives to your study in other classes and to all aspects of your life. Our courses reflect an expanding field of feminist research including feminist theory, sexuality studies, health, queer and legal issues, philosophy, violence against women, women and equity in the workplace, and women and the creative arts.

Women's Studies and Feminist Research officially became a department at The University of Western Ontario in July 2006. The Women's Studies program was established in 1987 and is a department in both the Faculty of Arts and Humanities, and the Faculty of Social Science. The Department offers a variety of degree modules and promotes feminist scholarship through provision for resident scholars, a Distinguished Speakers Series, faculty colloquia, annual conferences, and publications. It also has an active and lively Women's Studies Student Council.

Experience the Middle Ages in all its glory through an exciting, Faculty-wide program led by over twenty of Western’s world-renowned medieval experts. Beginning with the foundation course, Medieval Studies 1020, you will then create your own roadmap through this fascinating period in history, resulting in a Minor or Major in Medieval Studies. With opportunities to study Latin at Poitiers or experience an archaeological dig in Europe or the Middle East, medieval studies will truly come to life!

There are hundreds of millions of French speakers worldwide, including over 7 million Canadian Francophones, and a module in French Studies can give you a significant advantage when considering work opportunities. Whether it be in educational, business, diplomatic, legal or scientific professions, French provides you with an additional asset for today’s highly competitive job market. You may pursue an Honors Specialization or a Major in French Studies with the intention of working where French is required, or choose a Minor in French Studies or one of our Certificates in combination with another degree program in order to be more competitive in today’s globalized job market. Whatever you choose to do in life, a module in French Studies always enhances your career prospects.0

The Honors Specialization in Health Sciences with Biology is designed for students who want to combine the socio-cultural perspectives on health offered in Health Sciences courses with the life sciences (Chemistry, Biochemistry and Biology). This module is ideal for students who want to pursue careers in medicine and dentistry. Approximately half of the module’s courses cover key Health Sciences topics such as health ethics, health promotion, childhood and adolescent health, health in aging populations, and anatomy. The other half of the module is made up of core life sciences courses, covering topics such as organic chemistry, biochemistry, and genetics.
