Overview

The Broadcasting - Radio and Media Production program is a highly concentrated hands-on approach to training students for careers in radio broadcasting and emerging broadcast media.  Students operate four broadcast properties in Fanshawe College's School of Contemporary Media building, which is equipped with the latest in broadcast technology.  CIXX-FM (106.9) is Canada's first licensed instructional radio station at full power FM utilizing the latest digital control rooms and production equipment. Areas of study include: On-Air Performance, Creative Writing, Audio and Commercial Production, Sales/Marketing/Promotions, Music and Programming and Web and Social Media content development.  Listen live to students perform on 106.9 CIXX-FM, The X at www.1069thex.com, The Falcon at www.thefalcon.ca, CFRL Radio at www.cfrlradio.ca, and Stellar Radio, live video and audio at livestream.com/stellar_radio.  Broadcasting - Radio and Media Production students learn in a live on-air environment while performing on-air and various job functions identical to those in the Broadcast industry.

The Network and Security Architecture Graduate Certificate program will cover the key aspects of designing, deploying, supporting, and securing small, medium, and enterprise network and server infrastructures. It will cover the fundamentals of advanced networking and security concepts to work in almost any situation and meet the security challenges that are presented.

Co-operative Education
In order to be eligible for co-op, students must achieve and maintain a minimum 2.5 GPA and be academically complete at the commencement of their co-op work term (Fall intake; completed all courses and Winter intake; completed all first semester courses) prior to the commencement of their co-op work term.  The co-op work term will always be the summer semester regardless of whether the student is in the Fall or Winter intake.

The Honours Bachelor of Environmental Design and Planning offers integrated learning based on the theory and practice of landscape architecture, planning and urban design. The use of Geographic Information Systems (GIS) for contextual analysis and evaluation and computer-aided design for visualization is emphasized and taught. The program has artistic and scientific appeal. Students gain a comprehensive understanding of environmental design and planning complemented by advanced technical design and communication skills. They use those skills and associated knowledge to creatively and effectively explore, analyze, conceptualize and present design and planning problems, opportunities, ideas and solutions. Sustainability is a principle for action - a comprehensive design and planning goal related to ecological, economic, socio-cultural and aesthetic dimensions of a place. It is advocated and upheld through applied project and community-based learning.

Academic projects, four work terms and a compulsory co-op placement give students the chance to apply their integrated learning and gain valuable practical experience. An academic exchange through a university in Curitiba, Brazil is available to senior students. Graduates are ready and able to work professionally in both the private and public sectors on contemporary design and planning projects requiring interdisciplinary solutions. Alternatively, an Honours Bachelor of Environmental Design and Planning Degree qualifies students for graduate studies in allied fields such as architecture, landscape architecture, urban design, planning, geographic information systems/science and geodesign.

This three-year Advanced Diploma in Cyber Security will provide students with the foundational Information Security (InfoSec) skills and knowledge necessary to be successful in the IT Security industry. Foundational topics will include information security, ethics, network management/analysis, programming and scripting, operating systems, and database management. Building on those foundational topics, the curriculum will also develop students’ skills in the areas of risk analysis, cryptography, vulnerability testing, access control implementation, and security audit performance. Graduates of this program will be able to proactively implement sound security practices to mitigate security risks and respond quickly to security breaches and issues that may have occurred.

Through hands-on laboratory activities, case study analyses, and research projects, students will enhance their Information Security understanding and develop their interpersonal, communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills. General Arts and Science is an open-enrollment, preparatory-studies program designed to provide opportunities for students to experience post-secondary studies in a supportive environment. Program participants are afforded the chance to develop a wide range of essential employability skills, benefit from extensive foundational Social Science and Humanities studies, upgrade their academic record, and focus on core and elective courses specific to their areas of interest. Students will also focus on professional writing and elective courses on culture, worldview, history, media and art.

This program emphasizes the dynamic role of the Doula within communities to prepare graduates for a rewarding career collaborating with health care teams to honour and advocate for expectant families throughout the full spectrum of their reproductive journey. The curriculum captures the specialized evidence-informed knowledge, skills, and experience relating to anatomy, physiology, and the emotional, physical, and cultural aspects of pregnancy and birth required by Doulas to provide families with information and support during pregnancy, childbirth, newborn care, and including loss. The program provides training in the skills required for on-site general carpentry and construction work, including the safe operation and maintenance of hand, portable, and stationary power tools. Business Fundamentals is a one-year Ontario College Certificate program. This program is designed to build fundamental business skills. This program is ideal for students who want to strengthen their foundational skills (math, writing, communication) before entering a two-year business diploma program; mature students who are preparing to re-enter the workforce; and international students. In the first level, students will take courses in customer service and business communication while improving their computer and math skills. Because the second level of Business Fundamentals is predominantly the common first level shared by all two-year diploma programs in the Lawrence Kinlin School of Business, graduates may choose to transfer directly into the second level of any business diploma program; alternatively, they may enter the workforce in various entry-level positions.
