Overview

The Advanced Filmmaking program is an Ontario College Graduate Certificate program which builds upon the students previous diploma/degree skills by providing opportunities to work in cross-functional teams to create both narrative and documentary films, television productions, and other media. All phases of digital filmmaking will be experienced, including pre-production, production, and post-production. Students will collaborate with students in other College programs (television, acting, fashion, multimedia, music industry arts) in the creation of digital media products.

Learning Outcomes

The Pre-Media program is a one-year foundational certificate program designed to introduce the student to various media industries. This preliminary year is intended to provide the student with the opportunity to sample from and discover the various aspects unique to each media program within the School of Contemporary Media. This three-year co-operative program provides training in both the municipal and structural areas. The design of steel frame and reinforced concrete buildings is studied in the structural courses. Training is provided in materials testing and computer-aided drafting. Municipal topics include the design and construction of water distribution systems, storm, and sanitary sewerage networks, storm water management and highways. Theories for the treatment of water, sewage, and solid wastes are analyzed. Survey courses provide training in the use of high-tech survey equipment and techniques of plane surveying, as related to the Civil Engineering profession. Applied research activities by Professors expose students to real life engineering practices, challenges and solutions.

The program consists of four academic levels and eight months of co-op working in industry. The program prepares graduates for employment in areas such as numerically controlled machines programming, tool design, production planning, statistical process control, value engineering, advanced machining and maintenance engineering throughout the manufacturing industry. Modern numerically controlled CNC and CAD/CAM equipment is utilized in this program.

Other Information
Graduates of the two-year Manufacturing Engineering Technician (Co-op) Ontario College Diploma program may apply to Level 5 of the Manufacturing Engineering Technology (Co-op) program to complete the requirements for an Ontario College Advanced Diploma in Manufacturing Engineering Technology. Students wishing to continue into the Manufacturing Engineering Technology (Co-op) program must complete an "Application for Program Transfer" form available from the Office of the Registrar, Room E1012.
This program will be delivered over two years, which includes four academic levels and two 4-month co-op terms.
A CONNECT lab fee of $50.00 per academic term is included in the Additional Program Fees stated in the Fee Schedule. This fee helps cover costs associated with the delivery of the CONNECT mobile computing program.   

Co-operative Education
In order to be eligible for co-op, students must maintain a 2.0 GPA and be academically complete at the commencement of their co-op work term.

The Broadcasting - Radio program is a highly concentrated hands-on approach to training students for careers in radio broadcasting and emerging broadcast media.  Students operate four broadcast properties in Fanshawe College's School of Contemporary Media building, which is equipped with the latest in broadcast technology.  CIXX-FM (106.9) is Canada's first licensed instructional radio station at full power FM utilizing the latest digital control rooms and production equipment. Areas of study include: On-Air Performance, Creative Writing, Audio and Commercial Production, Sales/Marketing/Promotions, Music and Programming and Web and Social Media content development.  Listen live to students perform on 106.9 CIXX-FM, The X at www.1069thex.com, The Falcon at www.thefalcon.ca, CFRL Radio at www.cfrlradio.ca, and Stellar Radio, live video and audio at livestream.com/stellar_radio.  Broadcasting - Radio students learn in a live on-air environment while performing on-air and various job functions identical to those in the Broadcast industry

The Broadcast Journalism - Television News Ontario College Graduate Certificate program is designed to prepare informed, principled, creative and disciplined Broadcast Journalists for a career in Television News. The unique program focus is designed to train the news Videographer/Reporter/Producer.
