Overview

Automotive Sales is a one-year Ontario Graduate Certificate program. You’ll begin the program by creating a strong foundation in the fundamentals of technical sales and marketing, quickly moving into specialized training in new media marketing, CRM enabled selling, emerging transportation technologies, marketing management and more. This program is also an opportunity for further study for graduates of business programs and of motive power programs. The program is designed to develop graduates with essential advanced technical, organizational, interpersonal, administrative and managerial skills required for the automotive service industry as well as providing progressive and comprehensive learning experiences on internal combustion spark ignition engines, power trains and related modern vehicle systems. Business - Marketing (Co-op) is a two-year Ontario College Diploma program with a co-operative education component. This program provides students with a strong foundation to gain entry to a variety of marketing career paths. Courses cover topics such as customer analysis, segmentation, and targeting; integrated marketing communications; pricing and distribution strategies; and product and service development and management. Hands-on activities include market research studies, advertising campaigns, sales and business plans - many of these activities involving live clients from industry. Students learn to use current software programs, including presentation, spreadsheet, graphic design and publishing applications. Graduates receive full credit toward a credential with the Canadian Institute of Marketing and earn credits towards the Certified Sales Professional designation offered by the Canadian Professional Sales Association. Graduates who meet admission requirements are eligible for transfer to the Business Administration - Marketing Advanced Diploma program.

  • The Business - Marketing (Co-op) program shares a common first level with all business diploma programs in the Lawrence Kinlin School of Business which allows for program transfer, with no loss of credit, after Level 1.
  • Graduates of the two-year Business - Marketing (Co-op) Ontario College Diploma program may apply for program transfer to the Business Administration - Marketing Ontario College Advanced Diploma program or the Honours Bachelor of Commerce (Digital Marketing) Degree program. Human Resources Management is a one-year Ontario College Graduate Certificate program, completed in two four-month levels (laptop required).  Designed for university or college graduates, this program provides graduates with functional knowledge in core areas of human resources: recruitment and selection, training and development, human resources planning, occupational health and safety, organizational behaviour, finance and accounting, human resources management, compensation and benefits and labour relations.  Students have the opportunity to complete all nine Certified Human Resources Professional/Leader (CHRP/ CHRL) credits.  (Refer to the Human Resources Professionals Association website for more information: www.hrpa.ca.) The Aviation Technology Aircraft Maintenance and Avionics (Co-op) Advanced Diploma is a Transport Canada approved program (TC-2018-02-4248) that provides students with the knowledge and skills required to start a career in aircraft maintenance and/or  avionics maintenance. This program will cover all aspects of aircraft maintenance including systems used in general aviation, corporate, and charter transport category aircraft as well as helicopters. The program will also include avionics training for service, repair, and maintenance of aircraft electrical and electronic systems such as communication, navigation, and data systems.

  • Service, test, troubleshoot and repair aircraft and systems on large or small, fixed or rotary wing aircraft in accordance with manufacturers' specified instructions, accepted aviation techniques/practices and the requirements of the Canadian aviation regulations.

This program is a four-year, eight level honours program with four months of mandatory co-op experience. This program will ready graduates for jobs in growth areas of Applied Biotechnology such as pharmaceuticals, nutraceuticals, agriculture, bioremediation, the fermentation industry, research and development to name a few. Students will study molecular biology, physical, organic and instrumental chemistry, applied biotechnology, microbiology, virology, toxicology; and related societal, economic, ethical, legal, and environmental issues. The program prepares students for a career in the residential construction industry. Courses are designed to provide the technical knowledge required to perform the construction, estimating, and scheduling associated with the building of one and two-storey houses, duplexes and townhouses.  A portion of the program is devoted to the acquisition of hands-on skills pertaining to the construction field.

Co-operative Education
This two year program has two Co-operative Education work terms. Students can choose to participate in a four-month paid co-op term from May to August between years one and two of academic study. The second four-month work term will take place from May to August following the completion of the second year of academic study.

Professors have relevant and practical expertise in international trade, investment, marketing, finance and business management. Graduates will receive an Ontario College Graduate Certificate in International Business Management and, upon meeting Forum for International Trade Training (FITT) criteria on two major projects sent for external grading and transfer of credits to FITT, a Diploma in International Trade from FITT will be issued. Graduates who complete the required work experience in international business and meet other FITT criteria can subsequently apply to receive the Certified International Trade Professional designation (CITP).

Learning Outcomes
The graduate has reliably demonstrated the ability to

  • Conduct an environmental scan to evaluate the impact of world issues on an organization's international business opportunities.
  • Conduct, evaluate and present market research to support an organization's international business decision-making.
  • Manage the preparation of documents and the application of procedures to support the movement of products and services in the organization's global supply chain.
  • Evaluate the impact of statutory and regulatory compliance on an organization's integrative trade initiatives.
  • Develop and implement strategies to negotiate effectively within various cultural environments and to address the impact of cultural differences on an organization's integrative trade initiatives.
  • Develop and present an international marketing plan, and evaluate sales strategies that support an organization's integrative trade initiatives.
  • Identify and interpret relevant international financial documents, and evaluate financial strategies that support an organization's integrative trade initiatives.
  • Analyze the impact of an organization's integrative trade initiatives on its human resources management strategies, policies, and practices.
  • Develop and present an international business plan.
  • Manage the implementation and evaluation of team projects by applying project management principles
  • Recommend strategies to support principles of corporate sustainability, corporate social responsibility and ethics associated with an organization's integrative trade* initiatives and evaluate their effectiveness.
  • Select and apply current technologies to support an organization's integrative trade* initiatives.
