Business - Finance (Co-op) is a two-year Ontario College Diploma program. This program is designed to develop the skills needed to work in the growing personal financial services sector, from customer service to wealth management and financial planning. Students will learn to work with clients, evaluating their needs and offer advice on personal financial management, tax and retirement planning, insurance, investments, and estate planning, as well as customer relations and providing product to clients. Qualified graduates will have completed all the educational requirements leading to the CFP® (Certified Financial Planner®) designation awarded by the Financial Planning Standards Council www.fpsc.ca. and the Registered Retirement Consultant® RRC® designation awarded by CIFP.

Students are also prepared to write the Canadian Securities Course® and Life Licensing Qualification Program examinations as prerequisites to securities and life insurance licensing. Students will also have completed the Mutual Funds Licensing course.

Co-operative Education
In order to be eligible for co-op, students must maintain a 2.5 GPA and be academically complete at the commencement of their co-op work term.

Advanced Diploma in Fire Inspection and Fire Safety Education

The Fire Inspection and Fire Safety Education program is an Ontario College Advanced Diploma that prepares graduates to enter the fire service in the field of fire prevention.

The program provides a foundation in fire science and fire mathematics. It also provides comprehensive coverage of relevant codes and legislation (e.g., Ontario Fire Code and the Fire Protection and Prevention Act, the Ontario Building Code and the Building Code Act).

The core vocational curriculum is aligned with several professional credentials offered by the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA): Fire Inspector I and II, Fire and Life Safety Educator I and II, and Public Information Officer. Students will also graduate with the communication skills and interpersonal skills they need to function as leaders in the fire service and in the community.

  • Conduct field inspections of new or existing single- and multi-use structures to determine code compliance and to evaluate fire protection systems and equipment (e.g., occupancy classification and occupant loads; hazardous conditions involving equipment, processes and operations; emergency planning and preparedness procedures; storage, handling and use of hazardous materials, and flammable and combustible liquids and gases; egress and emergency access; fire flows and fire growth potential).

A Community Pharmacy Assistant is one of the vital members of a pharmacy. Their attention to detail, knack for problem solving, technical and interpersonal skills contribute to the success and operational effectiveness of a pharmacy. Fanshawe's one-year Community Pharmacy Assistant program is designed to prepare graduates to achieve professional success in community pharmacies under the direction of a Registered Pharmacist or Pharmacy Technician.

The program blends theory with experiential learning. Students will learn concepts and problem solving strategies in the classroom that are later reinforced during lab components in Fanshawe's state-of-the-art pharmacy lab and a community placement. Students also gain the skills to collaborate with other pharmacy health care professionals to ensure accurate patient record maintenance, process prescriptions, manage inventory, compound non-sterile products and assist customers with products sold in a community pharmacy.

General Arts and Science is an open-enrollment, preparatory-studies program designed to provide opportunities for students to experience post-secondary studies in a supportive environment. Program participants are afforded the chance to develop a wide range of essential employability skills, benefit from extensive foundational Social Science and Humanities studies, upgrade their academic record, and focus on core and elective courses specific to their areas of interest. It is a three-year, seven level program with up to 16 months of paid co-op experience. The electrical engineering technology program will prepare graduates for jobs in growth areas of automation, network communications, electrical utilities/protection, process control, electronics, and embedded systems. Students will study electrical system design, automation, power generation/distribution, and develop practical skills. Areas of study include: On-Air Performance, Creative Writing, Audio and Commercial Production, Sales/Marketing/Promotions, Music and Programming and Web and Social Media content development.  Listen live to students perform on 106.9 CIXX-FM, The X at www.1069thex.com, The Falcon at www.thefalcon.ca, CFRL Radio at www.cfrlradio.ca, and Stellar Radio, live video and audio at livestream.com/stellar_radio.  Broadcasting - Radio and Media Production students learn in a live on-air environment while performing on-air and various job functions identical to those in the Broadcast industry.
