Overview

Human Resources Management is a one-year Ontario College Graduate Certificate program, completed in two four-month levels (laptop required).  Designed for university or college graduates, this program provides graduates with functional knowledge in core areas of human resources: recruitment and selection, training and development, human resources planning, occupational health and safety, organizational behaviour, finance and accounting, human resources management, compensation and benefits and labour relations.  Students have the opportunity to complete all nine Certified Human Resources Professional/Leader (CHRP/ CHRL) credits.  (Refer to the Human Resources Professionals Association website for more information: www.hrpa.ca.) Beyond the core curriculum, the program also offers courses in software, Canadian employment law, management of strategic HR projects and professional communications.  A unique experiential learning opportunity is available to select students through the HR Community Consultancy offered in the final winter term of the in-class program.

This two-year professional program is designed to provide students with extensive practical understanding and knowledge to perform administrative support in a wide variety of medical environments.  The focus will be on medical terminology and transcription, medical billing, patient management, medical office procedures, medical ethics and research.  The emphasis will be on interpersonal, communication, organizational, technical, and problem-solving skills applied to enhance the effective operation of the medical environment.

Special Events Planning is a two-year diploma program designed for individuals interested in a career in event management. The Social Service Worker (Fast Track) program provides an opportunity for university graduates (Psychology, Sociology or Social Work related) and community college Community Studies diploma graduates to complete the requirements for graduation from the Social Service Worker program in three levels (ten months). Graduates from the Social Service Worker program are eligible for admission to The Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers and must be members of this regulating body to use the professional title "Registered Social Service Worker".

The program provides the technical knowledge and skills required to manage the construction of industrial, commercial, and institutional buildings from the planning stage through to completion. Studies include construction materials and methods, construction equipment, surveying, project management, scheduling, estimating, building economics, and construction contracts. Fanshawe College's Law Clerk program is designed to provide students with a solid grounding in legal principles combined with the practical law clerk training that students will need to enter the diverse, fast-paced, modern field of law. As a graduate of the Law Clerk program you will work as part of a team in law firms, corporate legal departments, financial institutions, insurance companies, legal technology providers, title insurance companies, Federal, Provincial and Municipal Governments or in any other capacity where a legal environment exists. Depending upon your choice of career path, you could find yourself preparing motion records and trial documentation, interviewing witnesses, arranging trial dates and adjournments, drafting corporate/commercial documentation, completing Family Law Act financial statements, administering estates, negotiating leases, administering contracts, completing legal research, searching titles or processing real estate transactions. Business - Supply Chain and Operations is a two-year Ontario College Diploma program. The curriculum covers theory and application of supply chain management in private and public sector environments. Specifically, courses address material sourcing, transportation methods, inventory, retail management, negotiation skills and analytical techniques. Students also enhance their computer skills and their business communication skills. The program aligns to the curriculum of various professional associations in supply chain management. Graduates, equipped with the skills required to improve an organization's profitability and operations, are in high demand in both the private and public sector.

  • The Business - Supply Chain and Operations program shares a common first level with all business diploma programs in the Lawrence Kinlin School of Business, which allows for program transfer, with no loss of credit, after Level 1.
  • Students entering Level 1 of the program in January are expected to proceed into Level 2 of the program in the summer term.  Students entering Level 1 of the program in February or May will proceed to Level 2 of the program in September.
  • Graduates may be eligible for admission to the following Graduate Certificate programs in the Lawrence Kinlin School of Business: Agri-Business Management, Human Resources Management, International Business Management, Marketing Management, Operations Management, Professional Financial Services, or Project Management. Graduate Certificate programs deliver a specialized professional curriculum in two four-month levels.
  • This program is eligible for consideration of college to college transfer of credits under the Ontario Provincial ONCAT agreement.
  • Students who graduate from this program with a GPA of 3.0 or greater are eligible to receive Advanced Standing towards their Certified Supply Chain Management Professional (CSCMP) designation (4 modules and 2 workshops). 
  • Articulation agreements exist with the Supply Chain Canada which provides advanced standing in the Supply Chain Management Professional (CSCMP) designation program.
  • Students may become members of the Fanshawe College APICS student chapter.

Learning Outcomes
The graduate has reliably demonstrated the ability to:

  • Apply knowledge of the functional components of logistics to the interrelationships in the integrated supply chain;
  • Employ a working knowledge of operations processes and systems required in manufacturing, distribution, and services;
  • Contribute to plans and schedules, at various levels in an organization;
  • Apply the basics of purchasing and supplier management to current best practices;
  • Apply best practices for inventory planning and control throughout the integrated system;
  • Utilize information technology to support logistics management functions;
  • Evaluate and select warehousing and transportation options and recommend appropriate solutions for business requirements;
  • Participate in the planning, implementation, and evaluation of projects;
  • Conduct business in the international marketplace;
  • Conduct business in compliance with relevant national and international law, legislation, regulations, safety requirements, and professional standards;
  • Communicate effectively, orally and in writing, as required in a business culture;
  • Apply problem-solving and critical-thinking skills as required in logistics management;
  • Use effective human relations, interpersonal, and team skills in an organizational environment;
  • Develop strategies for ongoing professional development to maintain and increase competence;
  • Apply basic knowledge of the interrelationships among the functional areas of business in logistics management.
