This program provides a broad spectrum of knowledge and skills in the mechanical engineering field with emphasis on industrial maintenance. It incorporates subjects such as hydraulics, pneumatics, welding, machining, motor controls, programmable logic controllers and machine repair. Growing complexity and technology are aspects of today's manufacturing environment and increasingly advanced skills are required to maintain an automated production environment.  This program represents excellent preparation for the Millwright trade.  Millwrights are employed by millwright contractors, manufacturing plants, utilities and other industrial establishments.

Graduates of the Electronics Engineering Technician - Industrial Controls program will play a key role in the world of technology with the in-depth knowledge gained in this exciting, fast-paced program.  Automation is used in virtually every industry with the demand for trained graduates always increasing.  Graduates will study a wide range of automation topics and have a thorough understanding of electricity and electronics as applied to automation and system controls.  Electronic control systems can be found in automated factories, building environmental systems and processors of bulk materials such as dairies, refineries etc.  Students will study motor controls, industrial sensors, automation theory and digital based control systems. Graduates will also have a working knowledge of pneumatic and electropneumatic control systems.  They will be able to program, install and troubleshoot programmable logic controllers (PLC's) and will have exposure to a working robot in an actual industrial workcell setting.

The General Arts and Science program has always given students the opportunity to gain academic experience and open doors to other college and university programs. As such, the General Arts and Science program is also giving students the opportunity to gain valuable work experience through our new co-op option! This three-semester program allows students to pursue important hands-on work experience while earning a certificate. This program will not only give students a head start academically, but it will also help start students on a number of potential career paths.

The Pre-Health Sciences Pathway to Advanced Diplomas and Degrees program provides students with the opportunity to study subject areas relevant to health career programs at Fanshawe College and to instill an appreciation of the professional roles, responsibilities and academic requirements of health care disciplines. The goal of the program is to prepare students for their chosen health career program.

The Mechanical Engineering Technician program teaches students to work on computer systems within the manufacturing industry. Students will learn machine theory, blueprint reading and applied mathematics. Graduates will feel confident entering the workforce with knowledge in Computer Aided Design (CAD), Computer Aided Machining (CAM) and Computerize Numerical Control (CNC) programs.

You’ll focus your learning on machine trade theory, machine shop, mechanical blueprint reading and applied mathematics and Computer Aided Design (CAD). You'll get hands on experience with the computer applications and software used in Computer Aided Machining (CAM) and Computerized Numerical Control (CNC) programs. You’ll have cutting –edge knowledge for the always evolving computer manufacturing world. Plus, There's also a mandatory co-op placement in year two of the program, so you can earn while you learn, testing your knowledge in real situations, in real machine shops.

The production of energy using renewable natural resources such as wind, sunlight, biomass, geothermal heat, etc., has gained global acceptance in recent years. The Renewable Energies Technician program represents a response to the increasing need for quality training in the Renewable Energies sector.

The Renewable Energies Technician program will be focused on the primary practical applications of Renewable Energy. The program will appeal to individuals seeking formal training to enable them to enter the Renewable Energies field as employees or entrepreneurs.

The program shall firstly deliver the foundational knowledge in the relevant electrical, electronic and mechanical disciplines that will be required to function practically in the Renewable Energies sector.

Whereas a number of Renewable Energy solutions and applications are emerging in our current environment, the program will address more than one renewable energy technology by design. The program will give the student a solid foundation in the science as well as the design and installation techniques required to work with various Renewable Energy solutions. Included components will be Solar Energy, Wind Turbines, Biomass Energy and Geothermal Energy Systems. The best industry practices of health, safety and environmental conservation will play an integral role in all of the courses delivered within the program including complete safety training for working at heights and confined spaces.

The program will also introduce the general concepts associated with global climate change and the practicalities associated with sustainable energy including conservation techniques.

By completion of the program, students will have gained experience and knowledge enabling them to perform site assessments for Wind and Photovoltaic Energy projects with the ability to integrate same with current existing energy sources. Graduates will have an in-depth working knowledge of current practice in the installation, commissioning and routine maintenance and repair of Photovoltaic and Wind Turbine generating systems enabling them to function effectively in the utility scale Wind Turbine and Solar Photovoltaic industries.

Co-operative Education
In order to be eligible for co-op, students must maintain a 2.0 GPA and be academically complete at the commencement of their co-op work term.

• Adhere to all precautions to be taken when working on or near electrical power sources, conductors, transformers, motors, rotating equipment, hoisting equipment, rooftops, high elevations and confined spaces and apply all applicable health and safety policies, laws, codes, regulations and industry standards.
• Install, operate, troubleshoot, repair and maintain renewable energy systems including Wind Turbine and Photovoltaic systems.
• Install, maintain, troubleshoot and contribute to the control of renewable energy systems through the application of basic electrical AC and DC current and analog and digital electronics theory; hydraulic and mechanical concepts; as well as, motor control and automation theory including sensors, data acquisition devices, and programmable controllers.
• Install, assemble, examine, test, replace, or repair electrical wiring, components, modules, feeders, fibre optic cables, mechanical assemblies, electric motors and controls, generators and hydraulic components associated with renewable energy systems.
• Analyze, diagnose, troubleshoot and repair renewable energy components, processes, and systems through the application of engineering principles and practices.
• Analyze, interpret and produce electrical, electronic and mechanical drawings and schematics and other technical documents associated with renewable energy systems to appropriate engineering standards.
• Interpret relevant data monitored by supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA) systems related to renewable energy systems and take corrective measures as appropriate to achieve maximum energy production and power transmission efficiency.
• Identify, select and correctly install various types of Solar Photovoltaic mounting systems according to various roof styles or ground mount applications consistent with the load effects of the Photovoltaic arrays on the structures on which they are to be mounted. 9. Assess and evaluate buildings according to “Green Building” principles and building energy auditing techniques and make energy efficiency and conservation recommendations outlining how conservation and sustainable living benefits human and environmental health.
• Select, size, design, site and compute energy production calculations as part of the evaluation, installation and commissioning of energy generation systems by applying knowledge of electrical, mechanical, and control systems in accordance with accepted practices outlined by utilities, building codes, federal and provincial regulations.
• Access and adhere to all legislation, industry standards and codes as they apply to renewable energy technology including MicroGrid and FIT (Feed-In-Tariff) Regulations.
• Work as a productive member of a team in the research, design and implementation of renewable energy projects with the ability to communicate effectively through written, oral and graphic communication.

Personal Support Worker is a two level program leading to an Ontario College Certificate.  Graduates, as entry-level unregulated workers, have the knowledge, skills, and attitudes necessary to provide personal care and home management services to clients in both community and institutional settings.

Personal Support Workers work with clients who are stable and who have clearly identified needs that are not expected to change significantly. They work under the supervision of care/service teams (which include nurses and other regulated or non-regulated care providers) as well as under the direction of the client.

The graduate has reliably demonstrated the ability to

• Work within the personal support worker role in community, retirement homes, long-term care homes and/or hospital care settings in accordance with all applicable legislation and employer's job description, policies, procedures and guidelines.
• Act responsibly and be accountable for own actions while recognizing the boundaries of knowledge and skills within the personal support worker role that require collaboration with the clients, families, supervisors and/or other members of the interprofessional care/service team.
• Participate as a member of the interprofessional care/service team and maintain collaborative working relationships in the provision of supportive care in community, retirement homes, long-term care homes and/or hospital care settings.
• Provide client-centred and client-directed care that is based on ethical principles, sensitive to diverse client and family values, beliefs and needs, and which follows the direction of the plan of care/service plan.
• Establish and maintain helping relationships with clients and their families reflecting open communication, professional* boundaries, employer's policies and adhering to confidentiality and privacy legislation.

This Ontario College Diploma (Co-op) program is designed to prepare students to work in a modern tooling shop, with emphasis on conventional machining skills to create a solid foundation of knowledge. Courses within the program are aligned with the Level 1 curriculum standards of the Precision Metal Cutting Common Core Apprenticeship program. The students will also have the opportunity to participate in two paid co-op placements which will create opportunities to further learn and apply their new skills.

Co-operative Education

This program blends theory with hands-on application of theoretical principles delivered through course work and field practicum.  Students in this program will develop their knowledge and professional skills in areas such as child development and best practices in early childhood; the early childhood educator's role and responsibilities; the importance of play in children's learning; family involvement and curriculum design and implementation.

When the student graduates they will have the knowledge and necessary skills to work with children, families and community in the context of early learning and development programs for children from birth to age twelve. The student will be prepared to work in a variety of settings, including child care centres, early learning and family centres, Best Start programs, before and after school programs and with school boards.
