As a Cultural Heritage Conservation and Management specialist, you will learn a wide range of techniques to save the fragile reminders and markers of the past - preserved for future generations to learn from and enjoy.

Program Highlights
The fundamental role of the conservation professional is to preserve and conserve, as appropriate, cultural property for present and future generations. We have a lot to learn from the experiences and events of people who have gone before us. However, we can't learn much from the past if we don't have records of it. Imagine how much history is lost to us when an ancient artifact is destroyed by perfectly well-meaning people who want to save it.

This two-year Ontario College graduate certificate is an intensive, fast-paced learning experience that you will undertake in four consecutive semesters. You'll start your classes in September and spend your first three semesters, during the fall, winter and summer, at the college. Following your introduction to the field of conservation, you will gain valuable, applied and skills-based experience in the care and handling of most common museum materials, including ceramics, glass, stone, metals, wooden objects, leather and proteinaceous materials, textiles, works of art on paper, books, archival materials, photographs and modern materials. Updated curriculum reflects a focus on hands-on skills, experienced based learning, practical applications, beyond best practices and professional standards rooted in ethical applications. Once you've learned the theory and practical skills, you'll treat museum artifacts from local, regional, and national sites. Complementary courses, workshops, assignments, and community-based projects will offer off campus opportunities to practice conservation methods. A full-time, unpaid, curriculum-based internship in your final semester (September to December) provides an invaluable learning and work experience.

Work Experience
There are many opportunities to get practical experience both at the college and off-campus. In your fourth semester, you will take on a challenging, full-time, unpaid curriculum-based internship at an approved site. Students should be prepared to relocate for the internship, to pay full tuition fees, and be self-supporting during this semester. You will negotiate your own internship with faculty assistance and some students have participated in internships abroad. The internship is an unpaid study experience.Students are responsible for negotiating additional paperwork and funding requirements for international internships including visas, travel and insurance. This program will provide you with a variety of trade-specific skills, introducing you to installing, maintaining and repairing piping systems in residential, commercial and industrial settings, to enhance opportunities for employment.

In the two-semester Mechanical Techniques - Plumbing program, you will learn to:

• Identify and install common plumbing fixtures in our multi-story KUBE structure
• Assemble various piping systems related to plumbing
• Interpret and create drawings, estimates and material lists

• Examine concepts in water and wastewater systems, including operations, backflow and cross connection

Over four semesters, you will progressively develop skills and knowledge in fitness assessment and exercise programming, nutrition, health promotion, leadership and self-development, business planning and lifestyle consulting. Field Placement opportunities will provide you with workplace experience supervised by trained professionals and leaders in the fitness industry. Placements can be tailored to your specific career goals or future university plans. For example, students have requested placements in hospitals, corporate sites, fitness facilities, chiropractic or physiotherapy settings, and non-profit organizations such as Diabetes Canada and Osteoporosis Canada. Pharmacy technicians are an integral part of the health care team. They play an important role in the technical elements of prescription preparation and dispensing, and they collaborate with pharmacists and other health care professionals to ensure the best possible patient outcomes.

PROGRAM HIGHLIGHTS

• Pharmacy technicians work very closely with pharmacists to achieve optimal drug therapy outcomes for patients.
• A pharmacy technician's role requires them to focus on the technical aspect of the prescription, perform med reconciliation by collecting the best possible medication history from patients, perform product preparation and distribution functions as well as inventory control.
• As a registered pharmacy technician, graduates will participate in health promotion activities and provide education such as medical device training or coordination of health clinic days. Pharmacy technicians work in collaboration with the pharmacy team and other health professionals to ensure continuity of care.

The Fleming College Health Information Management (HIM) program is one of only three Canadian Health Information Management Association (CHIMA) recognized college programs available in Ontario.

Program Highlights
In this challenging two-year diploma program, students will learn to use computer technologies to capture and analyze data, and to create health information for healthcare delivery use, financial and management planning. Health records are the primary source of information used by hospitals and health care facilities to code services for reimbursement purposes. This information is also needed by public health officials to indicate disease patterns and trends, and by medical researchers for analysis, comparison and decision support.

Health service careers are among the fastest growing occupations in the economy. In the healthcare field, this really is the information age. There's a whole new growth market for the skills and training of health information management and health records professionals. An aging population and increasing health care needs, combined with the focus on accountability, efficiency and effectiveness of health care services delivery, has led to a skills shortage. You will graduate equipped with very marketable skills in the health information management sector. Some of those skills will include expertise in the following areas:

WORK EXPERIENCE
The program includes a strong practical component. Students will participate in two work placement experiences, a total of eight weeks in all. Students spend two weeks in a workplace setting in semester two, and four weeks in a workplace setting in semester four. Practicum components will not necessarily be in the immediate Peterborough area. Practicum agencies may require proof of immunization and a criminal records check (vulnerable sector).
