ENTRY TO UNIVERSITY
Trent University Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Science
This program was developed in collaboration with Trent University. As a result, Trent University will grant a total of five first year credits (in English, Philosophy, Psychology, Sociology, plus one unassigned credit) to graduates of this program who achieve an overall average of 70%, and no individual grade of less than 65% in their Literature, Philosophy, Psychology, Sociology, Composition and Critical Analysis courses. Successful program graduates will have obtained the credits required for first year of Trent's Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Science degree. (Other Trent degree programs also recognize these Fleming courses for advanced standing.)

Trent University Indigenous Bachelor of Education
To be eligible, applicants are required to self-identify as First Nations, Métis or Inuit, and must also have achieved a 75% cumulative average in the University Transfer program. Successful applicants will be awarded five credits out of the 25 credit degree.

Carleton University Bachelor of Arts
At Carleton University, program graduates with an overall average of 70% or higher may be granted up to five full transfer credits, equivalent to first year towards the Bachelor of Arts degree.
A growing number of other universities recognize the program for significant credit towards their degrees.

Certificate in Electrical Techniques

The Electrical Techniques program provides pathways into a variety of occupations or training in the electrical industry. Develop basic competencies in electricity, network cabling and electrical system installation.

PROGRAM HIGHLIGHTS
The electrical field is growing in response to increased construction work in Ontario and other provinces. The 2-semester (30 week) Electrical Techniques program will provide you with the introductory and fundamental skills and knowledge to assist with the installation, maintenance and repair of electrical equipment in residential, commercial and construction settings.

  • The program provides several pathways into a variety of occupations and other college training programs in the electrical industry, including electronics, electrical mechanical and electrical apprenticeship.
  • You will develop basic competencies in electricity, network cabling and electrical system installation.
  • Related instruction in mathematics, prints and installations, safety and trade calculations is included to meet employers' qualifications.

Therapeutic Recreation professionals use a variety of techniques to help their clients enjoy greater independence, improve their health and well-being, and reduce or eliminate the effects of their illness or disability.

Program Highlights
This three-semester program prepares graduates for work in recreation, health or social service delivery settings. The program is offered in a combination of on-campus and online courses. During the first two semesters, you are required to be on campus two days of each week for the on-campus courses. The remainder of the courses are taken online. The program structure of combined class time and online learning provides you with the flexibility to participate in volunteer activities and to maintain family/work balance. This style of program delivery allows for practitioners currently working in the field to return to school and upgrade their skills without having to leave their job.

On the days you are on not on campus for courses, you’ll have the time to explore a variety of volunteer roles within the profession. This experience will enhance your learning and you will develop valuable industry connections and relationships for placements and possible future employment.

The third semester is a supervised field placement which can take place in the work setting and geographic location of your choice. Assistance to obtain the placement that best suits your goals will be provided.

You will learn specialized skills and how to utilize a wide range of interventions and techniques to improve the physical, cognitive, emotional, social and leisure needs of clients. You will learn to:

  • Complete client assessments, working closely with patients/clients/residents and their family members

Advanced Diploma in Biotechnology - Advanced

The Biotechnology - Advanced program prepares students to analyze forensic, DNA and other medical applications data in automated lab environments.

PROGRAM HIGHLIGHTS
With a career in the field of biotechnology with an emphasis in forensics, you have diverse employment opportunities, from working in biological research to quality assurance, to medical or health-related fields, tracking down criminals or identifying victims of crime. Laboratory related occupations are among the fastest growing occupations in the economy. With specialization in forensics and biotechnology, this program is unique and its graduates are in demand in this emerging field. This advanced diploma program would traditionally take six semesters to complete. However, the program has been designed in an accelerated, compressed format, to provide six semesters of course work over five semesters.

In their final, fifth semester, students can complete their full-time internship from April to August - giving graduates the advantage of getting out into the workforce faster. (Should they so choose, students may defer the summer internship until the fall.) Courses in the program integrate theory and practice opportunities in labs and practice settings. Graduates will be critical thinkers with problem-solving abilities, strong interpersonal, teamwork and communication skills and a solid foundation in forensic/DNA/medical applications.

The Developmental Services Worker program focuses on providing support to people with various intellectual disabilities, such as Down Syndrome, Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder, Autism Spectrum Disorders, Traumatic Brain Injury and neurocognitive disorders, learning disabilities and/or physical disabilities. Graduates have the knowledge, skills and attitudes that include - and exceed - compassionate caring to support the empowerment of people with disabilities, while providing leadership in promoting social inclusion and helping people accomplish their goals and reach their dreams.

This two–year Ontario College diploma program is designed to provide the specialized skills required for professionals who make a difference every day in the lives of children, youth and adults who have disabilities as well as their support network at home, and in the community, (school, recreation, mental health and addictions, justice supports, employment support and more).

Students begin to specialize in person-centered, strength-based assessments and develop strategies for individuals, their families, and community inclusion through various community-based projects and field placements. WORK EXPERIENCE
An essential component of your education will include experiential learning through course work as well as field placements. Three supervised field placements provide students with varied practical and networking experience where many students receive job offers. Students will also complete the last portion of their facilitation certificate by creating a Person-Directed Plan with a person they have built a relationship with throughout the program. Students will put theory into practice to help support and provide empowerment opportunities for individuals with disabilities. Students also have the option of international placements in their fourth semester; however, this should be discussed with the program coordinator as early as possible (and prior to the end of semester 2) in order to assist in facilitating it.

  • You will take this post-graduate certificate program during three consecutive semesters. The program is designed to meet the needs of students who want to acquire applied skills-based training for careers in the museum/gallery or heritage sectors. The courses have been developed in consultation and co-operation with museums and heritage organizations in order to offer a real, not simulated, work experience. Updated curriculum reflects practical applications of theory, beyond best practices rooted in ethical applications. The program is an optimal blend of independent study, in-class lectures, discussion, group work, applied projects, experience based and priceless hands-on learning.

WORK EXPERIENCE
By the nature of this program, a significant amount of time is spent working in teams in the field, and on practical projects.
The third and final semester of the Museum Management and Curatorship program is a challenging, full-time, four-month internship during the spring and summer. This unpaid, curriculum-based internship will give you hands-on work experience where you will put all your hard work and studies into motion. Students should be prepared to relocate for the internship, to pay full tuition, and be self-supporting. You will negotiate your own internship with faculty assistance. Some students have gone abroad for the internship, for example, to Australia, the United Kingdom, and Ireland. Students are responsible for negotiating and funding requirements for international internships including visas, travel and insurance. Examples of internship locations include:

Our unique three-semester Emergency Management and Business Continuity program is ideally suited for working professionals and those who are interested in pursuing a new career in this dynamic and growing field. The program’s flexible delivery model, online and on-campus delivery, means you can continue to work while pursuing advanced training. You’ll attend in-class intensive weekend sessions three times each semester, while the balance of course work is completed online. You will also put your skills to the test in a culminating applied project where you will develop and facilitate an emergency response or business continuity plan for a public or private organization.

Emergency Management and Business Continuity professionals are trained to prepare for loss of critical business functions. This can result from cyber-attack, data breaches, supply chain disruption, security incidents or natural disasters such as wildfires, flooding, pandemics, hazardous chemical spills, and other disasters that endanger the health, survivability of public and private organizations.

This program provides you with an historical context while instilling a solid understanding of governance, legislation and best practices. You will acquire the essential tools to prepare entities for the realities of business disruption and threats to community safety; along with plans for a smooth and timely recovery of affected services.
