The Tourism-Global Travel program combines practical hands-on experiences with class lectures. Students learn the key elements of the travel business through courses such as: Discovering Destinations, Customer Service Management, Tour Operations, Tourism Trends, Marketing, Travel Reservations, Digital Media, Adventure & Ecotourism and Hospitality Sales & Service, plus electives in business and general education courses. The 200 hour field placement provides practical knowledge, career opportunities and connections in the industry.

WORK EXPERIENCE
You have the opportunity to travel on a field trip and volunteer on projects with local people, experience and understand why people travel to resort destinations. You are also required to solicit and complete a minimum of 200 hours of field placement, to practice the theories and skills studied in class. It is recommended that students complete 100 hours between semester two and three and the remainder before graduating. This gives you the opportunity to network and meet potential employers.

The General Arts and Science - University Transfer curriculum delivers more than just challenging individual courses. Academic disciplines have developed together over time. This program is unique in its emphasis on providing students with a coherent overview of Literature, Philosophy, Psychology and Sociology. Your writing skills will also grow. In the classroom and outside it, written communication takes many forms - essays, laboratory reports, and practical business documentation. ENTRY TO UNIVERSITY
Trent University Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Science
This program was developed in collaboration with Trent University. As a result, Trent University will grant a total of five first year credits (in English, Philosophy, Psychology, Sociology, plus one unassigned credit) to graduates of this program who achieve an overall average of 70%, and no individual grade of less than 65% in their Literature, Philosophy, Psychology, Sociology, Composition and Critical Analysis courses. Successful program graduates will have obtained the credits required for first year of Trent's Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Science degree. (Other Trent degree programs also recognize these Fleming courses for advanced standing.)

Trent University Indigenous Bachelor of Education
To be eligible, applicants are required to self-identify as First Nations, Métis or Inuit, and must also have achieved a 75% cumulative average in the University Transfer program. Successful applicants will be awarded five credits out of the 25 credit degree.

Carleton University Bachelor of Arts
At Carleton University, program graduates with an overall average of 70% or higher may be granted up to five full transfer credits, equivalent to first year towards the Bachelor of Arts degree.
A growing number of other universities recognize the program for significant credit towards their degrees.

The Fitness and Health Promotion program will prepare you to perform the roles and responsibilities of a fitness and health consultant. Heightened consumer awareness of fitness and health has resulted in a significant demand for these qualified fitness professionals.

Over four semesters, you will progressively develop skills and knowledge in fitness assessment and exercise programming, nutrition, health promotion, leadership and self-development, business planning and lifestyle consulting. Field Placement opportunities will provide you with workplace experience supervised by trained professionals and leaders in the fitness industry. Placements can be tailored to your specific career goals or future university plans. For example, students have requested placements in hospitals, corporate sites, fitness facilities, chiropractic or physiotherapy settings, and non-profit organizations such as Diabetes Canada and Osteoporosis Canada. Mechatronics is a three-semester program focused on advanced manufacturing, industrial automation, electronics engineering, and computer programming. This is the first graduate certificate in Ontario that fully represents this interdisciplinary field.

Work Experience
Your four-month placement offers you an intensive, challenging opportunity to put your skills into practice. You choose the location and setting, your instructors will encourage you as you find and negotiate your placement. You can do your placement locally, provincially, across Canada or in an international setting.

You'll work with community-based agencies (of your choice) on real -- not simulated -- recreation/leisure projects. This will be valuable learning for later, when you're looking for a job. Your placement could be working with youth at risk, with seniors, in outdoor education programs, fitness organizations/centres, children's programs, schools, resorts or municipal settings. There are few limitations as to where you can do your placement. For example, Fleming has a unique partnership with the Resort, Recreation and Tourism Management Student Internship Program in the United States that students can take advantage of. You can work as an activity coordinator at a resort or prepare for a career on a cruise ship.

For your placement, field agencies may require you to submit a current police records check, which is available from your local police department upon payment of a fee. In addition, you may also be required to provide a current Standard First Aid Certificate, and a current Basic CPR Certificate (level C).

The Customs Border Services program will prepare you for a career on the front line of global trade and law enforcement.

PROGRAM HIGHLIGHTS
New technologies and responsibilities are at the forefront of current customs and border services activities and procedures. The scope of border operations continues to expand as our economy becomes increasingly tied to the global marketplace. As cross border trade exceeds well over one billion dollars a day, our "smart border" needs to efficiently manage the flow of legitimate trade and travellers as we move toward an environment in which the exchange and use of electronic data between countries, and within Canada, becomes a permanent reality. The result is the continued growth of challenging new career opportunities in both the public and private sectors.

The Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) uses its front line law enforcement employees, Border Services Officers (BSOs), to fulfill its roles and responsibilities. The BSOs are trained to function as both a Customs and an Immigration official, depending upon the needs of the port of entry where they are employed. As Canada’s first line of defence, they are also trained and equipped to protect themselves and to ensure our overall safety and well-being.

The Customs Border Services program provides experiential, hands-on learning with real life enforcement tools such as a baggage x-ray machine, travellers’ baggage and a practice automobile, to help prepare you for common enforcement-related activities in the field with the CBSA. This training is also beneficial for the non-enforcement jobs found in the brokerage, consulting, transportation and private (import/export) industries. Throughout this program you will:

Learn the role and legislative jurisdiction of Customs, Immigration and Canadian Food Inspection (Border Services), including enforcement techniques and procedures.
Review Customs legislation, procedures and documentation, and Immigration legislation
Gain an appreciation for global diversity through additional study of the legislation and regulations relating to other government departments.
Develop the computer, communications, dispute resolution and critical thinking skills that today's employers are demanding both in the private and public sectors of Border Services in Canada.
At the conclusion of your regular courses and curriculum within the program, you will participate in a mandatory field placement (co-op) in a private industry/business, customs brokerage or public agency to gain valuable work experience that often results in an offer of employment if you meet their standards.
