In this three-year program, the final sixth semester is an applied project or field placement in partnership with business and, industry, or government department.

WORK EXPERIENCE
In your final semester, you will work on an intensive team project or field placement. Each student will contribute specialized knowledge, learned in their program of study, to the solution of a real world technological problem posed by a sponsoring business or organization. Recent projects include:

• Field placements in Security Operations Centres (SOCs) as security analysts, conducting analysis and protection against cyber threats in real time
• Field placements within financial and forensic firms, working real cases
• Field placements within corporate security departments and information security service providers
• Field Placements within cyber security units of various government agencies
• Security and penetration testing engagements with industry organizations
• Forensic analysis and creation of standards for a security corporation
• Development and field deployment of a computer network Intrusion Detection System for a managed security service company to support large commercial clients

This applied project or field placement will enhance problem-solving skills, applied industry knowledge, and the ability to work as part of a team. You'll also learn critical workplace skills such as time management, how to map a critical path, and presentation skills. Since you may be working on sophisticated developmental or research-based work, sponsors will often use the project as a testing ground and recruitment opportunity.

Instrumentation technicians commission, install, calibrate, maintain and repair complex measurement and control systems used in a variety of process control applications.

This four-semester Ontario College Diploma program will prepare you for a hands-on, exciting and rewarding career in emerging engineering and scientific fields. This STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math) based program helps future proof your career options with valuable and in-demand skills in electronics, sensing, programming, device networking, instrument calibration and science used in today's processing and manufacturing facilities world-wide. These include, but are not limited to:

• Process control, safety, electrical/electronic controls and sensors

You will also learn required skills in communications and project management, which will make you more effective in teams typically found in the workplace.

WORK EXPERIENCE
Students in this program may have the opportunity to apply to paid summer co-ops. Examples of companies that have sponsored co-ops include: OPG, SGS, Andritz Hydro, Horizon Plastics, and Opcode Systems. The co-op runs during the summer between years one and two. This co-op allows you to build on your academic education, experience the work environment and make valuable contacts in one of the many diverse industries requiring instrumentation technician professionals.

Our program has a fall and winter start date. Each intake runs for three consecutive semesters, which means you can complete the full program in just one year. During the spring and fall, students complete extensive hands-on training designed around real-world firefighting experiences and scenarios. Additional classroom theory, college course material and medical upgrading to the EMR Standard, occurs during the winter months. Students graduate fully- prepared to enter the fire service industry.

Fleming’s program provides you with over 60 days of hands-on practical training, which is delivered at the Eastern Ontario Emergency Training Academy (EOETA). The Academy is a well–established, fully equipped fire and emergency services training facility.

Course content is based on the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) standards and includes the following topics: fire behavior, suppression, ventilation, incident management systems, command and control, hazardous materials, forcible entry, firefighter survival, auto extrication, confined space awareness, technical rescue, fire attack scenarios, fitness and wellness, fire prevention principles, public education and medical training that includes the Red Cross Emergency Medical Response (EMR) and International Trauma Life Support (ITLS). To further assist students, we offer fire industry-specific interviewing techniques and career planning strategies to prepare them for the application and interview process within the fire services.

The Eastern Ontario Emergency Training Academy (EOETA), our primary training facility, is located 40km east of Peterborough in the village of Norwood. EOETA has several established training environments including a burn tower, roof props, door props, search and rescue maze, confined space prop and a new high intensity propane training props. Students are fully-trained in all aspects of firefighting in a real-world environment, live-fire environment, allowing for a proper evaluation of each student, while completing the NFPA hands-on skills practice and evaluations.

Our unique three-semester Emergency Management and Business Continuity program is ideally suited for working professionals and those who are interested in pursuing a new career in this dynamic and growing field. You’ll attend in-class intensive weekend sessions three times each semester, while the balance of course work is completed online. Emergency Management and Business Continuity professionals are trained to prepare for loss of critical business functions. The Fleming College Health Information Management (HIM) program is one of only three Canadian Health Information Management Association (CHIMA) recognized college programs available in Ontario.

Program Highlights
In this challenging two-year diploma program, students will learn to use computer technologies to capture and analyze data, and to create health information for healthcare delivery use, financial and management planning. Health records are the primary source of information used by hospitals and health care facilities to code services for reimbursement purposes. This information is also needed by public health officials to indicate disease patterns and trends, and by medical researchers for analysis, comparison and decision support.

Health service careers are among the fastest growing occupations in the economy. In the healthcare field, this really is the information age. There's a whole new growth market for the skills and training of health information management and health records professionals. An aging population and increasing health care needs, combined with the focus on accountability, efficiency and effectiveness of health care services delivery, has led to a skills shortage. You will graduate equipped with very marketable skills in the health information management sector. Some of those skills will include expertise in the following areas:

• Data quality
• Data collection and coding
• Record /systems management
• Privacy, confidentiality and security of health information
• Transitioning to the electronic health record

WORK EXPERIENCE
The program includes a strong practical component. Students will participate in two work placement experiences, a total of eight weeks in all. Students spend two weeks in a workplace setting in semester two, and four weeks in a workplace setting in semester four. Practicum components will not necessarily be in the immediate Peterborough area. Practicum agencies may require proof of immunization and a criminal records check (vulnerable sector).

The Biotechnology - Advanced program prepares students to analyze forensic, DNA and other medical applications data in automated lab environments.

PROGRAM HIGHLIGHTS
With a career in the field of biotechnology with an emphasis in forensics, you have diverse employment opportunities, from working in biological research to quality assurance, to medical or health-related fields, tracking down criminals or identifying victims of crime. Laboratory related occupations are among the fastest growing occupations in the economy. With specialization in forensics and biotechnology, this program is unique and its graduates are in demand in this emerging field. This advanced diploma program would traditionally take six semesters to complete. However, the program has been designed in an accelerated, compressed format, to provide six semesters of course work over five semesters.

In their final, fifth semester, students can complete their full-time internship from April to August - giving graduates the advantage of getting out into the workforce faster. (Should they so choose, students may defer the summer internship until the fall.) Courses in the program integrate theory and practice opportunities in labs and practice settings. Graduates will be critical thinkers with problem-solving abilities, strong interpersonal, teamwork and communication skills and a solid foundation in forensic/DNA/medical applications.

WORK EXPERIENCE
A 15-week internship will immerse students in the work culture of a lab environment, give them the opportunity to seek experience in an area of specialization, and promote networking and awareness of the industry and job potential. Students will work with their faculty in selecting a placement that will be right for them.

Welders work in numerous industries and across many sectors including in manufacturing foundries, factories, at construction sites and in the aerospace industry.

PROGRAM HIGHLIGHTS
Statistics continue to confirm that those getting into this skilled trade now will likely have steady employment for as long as they want to work in the welding and fabricating sector. In the Welding and Fabrication Techniques program, you will learn how to:

• Select and apply welding processes and troubleshoot welding equipment
• Use a variety of destructive and non-destructive methods to test welds and acquire advanced skills in fitting and fabrication
• Gain comprehensive theoretical knowledge and have extensive practical hands-on training in welding and metal cutting techniques and all major welding processes.

WELDING CERTIFICATIONS
This program provides progressive opportunities to earn Canadian Welding Bureau (CWB) certifications. Program curriculum is in line with having completed Level III of the in-school portion of the Welding Apprenticeship:

• Upon successful completion of the 2-semester Welding Techniques Certificate you will have the opportunity to test for the 1GF (Flat fillet and groove welds) and 2GF (horizontal position) certification from CWB
• Once you have successfully completed 2 more semesters in the Welding Fabrication Technician program, you will have the opportunity to test for the 3GF and 4GF (vertical and overhead positions)

The program focuses on a variety of techniques and accompanying theory associated with welding ferrous and non-ferrous metals. Courses include:

• Welding Fundamentals, Welding Processes and Practice

The Carpentry and Renovation Technician program is primarily designed to prepare you for a career in the renovation and construction field.

PROGRAM HIGHLIGHTS
Gain a solid understanding of the various technical elements of home renovation along with the business skills necessary to succeed in the industry. Topics include:

• Restorative practices, residential carpentry practices
• Plans and specification, project management
• Mechanical trades used for renovations, health and safety

The aim of the Carpentry and Renovation Technician program is to prepare entry-level carpenters, including construction labourers who can function in a wide array of construction projects using sustainable practices. The emphasis is on hands-on experience, including a service learning experience in the community assisting a not-for-profit organization.

This program has been designed to include four semesters with progressive opportunities to earn carpentry apprenticeship levels:

• After successfully completing semester two you will have earned the Carpentry Techniques Ontario College Certificate and have an opportunity to challenge level one for General Carpentry apprenticeship
• By completing two more semesters, you can earn an Ontario College Diploma in Carpentry and Renovation Technician, and can challenge level two for General Carpentry apprenticeship

In just 10 months you can add a Diploma in Recreation and Leisure Services to your existing college diploma or university degree, by enrolling in this accelerated program.

Through hands-on training, you will learn to develop and manage recreation programs to work in this challenging and rewarding field.
