Museum Management and Curatorship is an intensive, fast-paced, immersion experience that provides applied training for careers in the museum, gallery or heritage sectors. Approximately 75% of classes are held at the Peterborough Museum & Archives.

WORK EXPERIENCE
By the nature of this program, a significant amount of time is spent working in teams in the field, and on practical projects.
The third and final semester of the Museum Management and Curatorship program is a challenging, full-time, four-month internship during the spring and summer. This unpaid, curriculum-based internship will give you hands-on work experience where you will put all your hard work and studies into motion. Students should be prepared to relocate for the internship, to pay full tuition, and be self-supporting. You will negotiate your own internship with faculty assistance. Some students have gone abroad for the internship, for example, to Australia, the United Kingdom, and Ireland. The Mental Health and Addiction program has been redesigned to ensure graduates are skilled in both mental health and addictions according to the latest industry standards. 

GRADUATES OF THE MENTAL HEALTH AND ADDICTION PROGRAM WILL:

• Gain the skills to work in a variety of settings supporting clients, families, groups and communities affected by substance use and mental health issues.
• Acquire the ability to critically analyze multiple and intersecting causes and impacts of substance use and mental health issues. This multidimensional approach integrates Anti-Oppressive Practice (AOP), and Indigenous approaches to working in the field of mental health and addiction.
• Understand how to apply evidence - based knowledge and skills in screening, assessment, treatment planning and interventions that promote equitable access to supports and services.
• Learn the application of harm reduction strategies, trauma informed interventions, case management, health promotion, and prevention.
• Have the opportunity to gain direct field practice working within an interdisciplinary team providing support throughout the substance use and mental health system.

PROGRAM HIGHLIGHTS
During the first semester of your educational journey, you will be introduced to the field with courses in Human Service, Power Privilege and Oppression, Counselling Interventions I, and Mental Health and Recovery. You will also learn about Indigenous Studies.
In your second semester you will build on the knowledge gained in first semester to learn much more about substance use and mental health. Courses focus on the Understanding Substance Use, Screening and Assessment, Case Management and Service Coordination, Prevention and Health Promotion, Counselling Interventions II and Ethics and Professional Practice.
Third semester helps you explore Trauma Specific Treatment Interventions, Family and Social Support, Understanding Concurrent Disorders, Building Capacity in Communities, Counselling Interventions III and Professional Practice.
The fourth and final semester integrates what you have learned in the classroom over the previous three semesters during a professional field placement experience. Field placement learning can take place anywhere in the province, or across Canada. Students will also complete and online Psychopharmacology course while on field placement.

Students can choose to build on their program of study in Mental Health and Addictions by completing the Social Service Worker dual diploma, or pursue a degree with advanced standing at a university through one of our many transfer agreements.

The program's flexible delivery structure features entry points in the fall, winter, and spring with all four intakes running every semester. This meets the needs of diverse student groups including:

• Students who require or wish a reduced course load
• Students who want to complete the program faster can attend four continuous semesters and graduate in sixteen months.
• Winter intake, first semester students take second semester in the spring, third semester in the fall, and fourth semester in the winter. Spring first semester intake takes semester two in the fall, the third semester in the winter, and the fourth semester in the spring. Students starting in September complete the second semester in the Winter, the third semester in the Fall, and the forth semester in the Winter and take the summer semester off.
• Individuals receiving funding that is dependent on attending classes continuously without semester breaks would start in the Winter or Spring semesters.

In your final semester, you will work on an intensive team project or field placement. Each student will contribute specialized knowledge, learned in their program of study, to the solution of a real world technological problem posed by a sponsoring business or organization. • Field placements in Security Operations Centres (SOCs) as security analysts, conducting analysis and protection against cyber threats in real time
• Field placements within financial and forensic firms, working real cases
• Field placements within corporate security departments and information security service providers

Since you may be working on sophisticated developmental or research-based work, sponsors will often use the project as a testing ground and recruitment opportunity.

This program will provide you with a variety of trade-specific skills, introducing you to installing, maintaining and repairing piping systems in residential, commercial and industrial settings, to enhance opportunities for employment.

PROGRAM HIGHLIGHTS
In the two-semester Mechanical Techniques - Plumbing program, you will learn to:

• Identify and install common plumbing fixtures in our multi-story KUBE structure
• Assemble various piping systems related to plumbing
• Interpret and create drawings, estimates and material lists
• Develop competencies in venting, waste and drainage systems
• Examine concepts in water and wastewater systems, including operations, backflow and cross connection
• Explore renewable energy systems related to plumbing

With this program, you will gain skills in computer networking and configuration, network security, and technical communications. Advanced products include an innovative medical and clinical product line for the treatment of acne, and a clinical botanical science - based product line designed for correction and management of aging skin.
• Only top-of-the-line vegan and aromatherapy-based professional products are used in both our teaching and practice.

The Esthetician program is offered in the daytime over three consecutive semesters. Intakes occur in September, January and May. Extensive experiential learning (288 hours) takes place in semesters two and three where you will provide esthetic services to clients our onsite spa.

WORK EXPERIENCE
You will practice your skills, improve your techniques, and learn how to offer excellent customer service in our on-campus spa. With one state-of-the-art work station for every two students on average, you can be sure that you will have the opportunity to really gain in confidence as you practice current methods and techniques in use in the field. You will work directly with clients for approximately 28 weeks total throughout the program.

Our unique three-semester Emergency Management and Business Continuity program is ideally suited for working professionals and those who are interested in pursuing a new career in this dynamic and growing field. The program’s flexible delivery model, online and on-campus delivery, means you can continue to work while pursuing advanced training. You’ll attend in-class intensive weekend sessions three times each semester, while the balance of course work is completed online. Emergency Management and Business Continuity professionals are trained to prepare for loss of critical business functions.
