• Pharmacy technicians work very closely with pharmacists to achieve optimal drug therapy outcomes for patients.
• A pharmacy technician's role requires them to focus on the technical aspect of the prescription, perform med reconciliation by collecting the best possible medication history from patients, perform product preparation and distribution functions as well as inventory control.
• As a registered pharmacy technician, graduates will participate in health promotion activities and provide education such as medical device training or coordination of health clinic days. The increasing complexity of today's business environment requires a focus on business basics and well - developed project management skills. There is a globally accepted skill base required for effective project management. The content of this program aligns with the Project Management Body of Knowledge (PMBOK® Guide, 6th ed.) as defined by the Project Management Institute (PMI®), a worldwide industry organization association that maintains standards and credentials and certifies project management professionals in 185 countries.

Fleming College is approved as a Registered Education Provider (REP) by the PMI. This designation ensures that the College has met PMI's rigorous quality criteria for course content, instructor qualification, and instructional design. Graduates of the program are recognized as possessing the educational requirements necessary to seek PMI® certification in CAPM® or PMP®.

Program courses are designed to guide students in the development of technical project management, leadership, organizational, interpersonal, meeting and presentation skills. Therapeutic Recreation professionals use a variety of techniques to help their clients enjoy greater independence, improve their health and well-being, and reduce or eliminate the effects of their illness or disability.

Program Highlights
This three-semester program prepares graduates for work in recreation, health or social service delivery settings. The program is offered in a combination of on-campus and online courses. During the first two semesters, you are required to be on campus two days of each week for the on-campus courses. The remainder of the courses are taken online. The program structure of combined class time and online learning provides you with the flexibility to participate in volunteer activities and to maintain family/work balance. This style of program delivery allows for practitioners currently working in the field to return to school and upgrade their skills without having to leave their job.

On the days you are on not on campus for courses, you’ll have the time to explore a variety of volunteer roles within the profession. This experience will enhance your learning and you will develop valuable industry connections and relationships for placements and possible future employment.

The third semester is a supervised field placement which can take place in the work setting and geographic location of your choice. Assistance to obtain the placement that best suits your goals will be provided.

You will learn specialized skills and how to utilize a wide range of interventions and techniques to improve the physical, cognitive, emotional, social and leisure needs of clients. You will learn to:

• Complete client assessments, working closely with patients/clients/residents and their family members
• Develop and evaluate group and individualized programs
• Use a variety of facilitative techniques, such as arts and crafts, animals, sports, games, dance and movement, drama, and music to assist individuals to participate in meaningful recreational activities
• Help people with disabilities to integrate into the community by teaching them how to use community resources and recreational activities, to foster independence, successful community living and integration

The two-year Sporting Goods Business program is on the cutting edge of sporting goods industry trends, and as such, you will be prepared for the demands of this field. The program offers:

• Through our innovative speaker series, students will have the opportunity to meet and network with Sporting Goods Business alumni and program supporters

The Fitness and Health Promotion program will prepare you to perform the roles and responsibilities of a fitness and health consultant. Heightened consumer awareness of fitness and health has resulted in a significant demand for these qualified fitness professionals.

Program Highlights
Through accurate assessment and monitoring of health and fitness levels, you will prepare activities and programs that are safe and effective, and that meet individual needs and interests. Our new program curriculum focuses on four areas of study:

The four areas of study support student success with industry-related certifications external to the program. Program faculty will provide guidance and information on the various certifications that are available and relevant to fitness and health professionals .

Over four semesters, you will progressively develop skills and knowledge in fitness assessment and exercise programming, nutrition, health promotion, leadership and self-development, business planning and lifestyle consulting. Field Placement opportunities will provide you with workplace experience supervised by trained professionals and leaders in the fitness industry. Placements can be tailored to your specific career goals or future university plans. For example, students have requested placements in hospitals, corporate sites, fitness facilities, chiropractic or physiotherapy settings, and non-profit organizations such as Diabetes Canada and Osteoporosis Canada. Class sizes are small and your learning environments feature the latest equipment, technology and facilities, including the state-of-the-art Peterborough Sport and Wellness Centre, located on Fleming College campus grounds.

This program will provide you with a variety of trade-specific skills, introducing you to installing, maintaining and repairing piping systems in residential, commercial and industrial settings, to enhance opportunities for employment.

PROGRAM HIGHLIGHTS
In the two-semester Mechanical Techniques - Plumbing program, you will learn to:

• Identify and install common plumbing fixtures in our multi-story KUBE structure
• Assemble various piping systems related to plumbing
• Interpret and create drawings, estimates and material lists
• Develop competencies in venting, waste and drainage systems
• Examine concepts in water and wastewater systems, including operations, backflow and cross connection
• Explore renewable energy systems related to plumbing
• Work competently with various hand and power tools

Upon program completion, you will also have:

• Qualified for exemption from Level One Basic in class portion for the Plumbing Apprenticeship (Ministry of Advanced Education and Skills Development)
• An opportunity to obtain industry related health and safety certifications
• Certificates for IPEX 636 training and Viega Certified connections
• An opportunity to complete the Operation of Small Drinking Water Systems Course through the Walkerton Clean Water Centre
• Grade 12 Math equivalency, a requirement for many apprenticeships.

This pathway program is designed to prepare you for admission to college programs in health sciences, biological or chemical sciences, while you learn about possible careers in these fields. The program provides the knowledge and skills in communication, mathematics, human anatomy, biology and chemistry needed to be successful in related college programs. Upon successful completion of this two-semester program, you will be eligible for admission to college programs such as:

• Occupational Therapist Assistant and Physiotherapist Assistant

Fleming College has reserved space in the above-noted programs for qualified graduates of this program. For consideration in this category, graduates must have achieved an average of 70% or higher over the duration of the Pre-Health Sciences Pathway program. If there are more applications from graduates with 70% or higher than reserved seats available, a selection process based on an average of overall marks will take place.

If you find that a career in health sciences is not as appealing as you had thought, you may consider other Fleming programs. Throughout the Pre-Health Sciences program, you will learn in a supportive environment and gain hands-on experience in our chemistry and biology labs. Our health curriculum is integrated, and you will also take college-level courses to help you become a competent communicator and problem solver, with the critical analytical, creative and logical thinking skills needed in the workplace. In addition, you can earn from two to four credits towards your subsequent college diploma, depending upon your program choice.

Train to be a key member of the multi-disciplinary team providing community pharmaceutical services. The pharmacy personnel landscape is evolving and Community Pharmacy Assistants are in high demand. Work alongside pharmacists and pharmacy technicians in community, medical clinic pharmacies or long-term care pharmacy settings.

Program Highlights

• This new, program is flexible in its delivery (online and in class) which allows you time to work while completing your coursework.
• It includes extensive applied learning opportunities: onsite training in our state-of-the-art Pharmacy Technician lab, online and in-class sessions in semester two, followed by a 140 hour field placement.
• You will practice your skills and techniques in a real - life pharmacy setting using pharmacy software.
• The field placement experience provides you with on-the-job training to enhance your employment opportunities.
• You will be exposed to the most up-to-date pharmaceutical products, practices and distribution methodologies.
• Your professional training will include dispensing and prescription processing, compounding, calculations, standards of practice, pharmacy computer systems, community pharmacy practice, inventory management, patient profiles and billing procedures.
• In addition to this training, you will gain valuable skills employers are looking for including document use, writing, numeracy, oral communication, critical thinking, and proficiency with digital technology. This will help you in collaborating with other pharmacy health care professionals and the public.

In the Early Childhood Education program you will learn how to help young children develop their physical, social, and intellectual skills, their self-confidence and imagination.

WORK PLACEMENT

• In semesters two and four you'll put theoretical education to work in a child care environment. In semester three, ECE teams will implement and run an Interactive Children’s Program, overseen by ECE faculty in the Peterborough community. This will prepare you for semester four, when you will be pulling it all together in your final block field placements.
• A background working with young children (ages newborn to 12) in licensed child care centres is strongly recommended as a prerequisite for field placement.
