The Electrical Techniques program provides pathways into a variety of occupations or training in the electrical industry. Develop basic competencies in electricity, network cabling and electrical system installation.

PROGRAM HIGHLIGHTS
The electrical field is growing in response to increased construction work in Ontario and other provinces. The 2-semester (30 week) Electrical Techniques program will provide you with the introductory and fundamental skills and knowledge to assist with the installation, maintenance and repair of electrical equipment in residential, commercial and construction settings.

  • The program provides several pathways into a variety of occupations and other college training programs in the electrical industry, including electronics, electrical mechanical and electrical apprenticeship.

Certificate in Pre-Service Firefighter Education and Training

Our program has a fall and winter start date. Each intake runs for three consecutive semesters, which means you can complete the full program in just one year. During the spring and fall, students complete extensive hands-on training designed around real-world firefighting experiences and scenarios. Additional classroom theory, college course material and medical upgrading to the EMR Standard, occurs during the winter months. Students graduate fully- prepared to enter the fire service industry.

Fleming’s program provides you with over 60 days of hands-on practical training, which is delivered at the Eastern Ontario Emergency Training Academy (EOETA). The Academy is a well–established, fully equipped fire and emergency services training facility.

Course content is based on the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) standards and includes the following topics: fire behavior, suppression, ventilation, incident management systems, command and control, hazardous materials, forcible entry, firefighter survival, auto extrication, confined space awareness, technical rescue, fire attack scenarios, fitness and wellness, fire prevention principles, public education and medical training that includes the Red Cross Emergency Medical Response (EMR) and International Trauma Life Support (ITLS). To further assist students, we offer fire industry-specific interviewing techniques and career planning strategies to prepare them for the application and interview process within the fire services.

The Mental Health and Addiction program has been redesigned to ensure graduates are skilled in both mental health and addictions according to the latest industry standards. 

GRADUATES OF THE MENTAL HEALTH AND ADDICTION PROGRAM WILL:

  • Gain the skills to work in a variety of settings supporting clients, families, groups and communities affected by substance use and mental health issues.

PROGRAM HIGHLIGHTS
During the first semester of your educational journey, you will be introduced to the field with courses in Human Service, Power Privilege and Oppression, Counselling Interventions I, and Mental Health and Recovery. You will also learn about Indigenous Studies.
In your second semester you will build on the knowledge gained in first semester to learn much more about substance use and mental health. Courses focus on the Understanding Substance Use, Screening and Assessment, Case Management and Service Coordination, Prevention and Health Promotion, Counselling Interventions II and Ethics and Professional Practice.
Third semester helps you explore Trauma Specific Treatment Interventions, Family and Social Support, Understanding Concurrent Disorders, Building Capacity in Communities, Counselling Interventions III and Professional Practice.
The fourth and final semester integrates what you have learned in the classroom over the previous three semesters during a professional field placement experience. Field placement learning can take place anywhere in the province, or across Canada. Students will also complete and online Psychopharmacology course while on field placement.
