Design can change the world. Architectural technologists are key members of a project team and play a vital role in turning conceptual design ideas into technical construction documents and practical, buildable solutions. This three-year program provides you with the essential knowledge base and fundamental skills required to work as an architectural technologist within the many companies and sectors of the architectural and construction industry. Performing tasks of a technical nature, you will be part of a team of professionals and tradespeople involved in the building design, construction and management process.

This intensive 12-month Commercial Dance program provides you with the performance skills and marketability necessary to work in the vast field of commercial dance. A graduate has the ability to dance, sing and act, enabling a performance career in music videos, musical theatre, cruise ship performance and more.

Dance training is in jazz, hip hop and ballet combined with in-depth acting, vocals and chorus repertoire. Career management and personal marketing skills combined with polished performance technique will launch your professional commercial dance career.

STUDENT SELECTION
Entrance requirement is dance training at the intermediate jazz level with training in additional dance forms as a significant asset. Prospective students must pass an audition in jazz as well as an interview.

The Construction Techniques program covers popular construction trade areas and has three intakes per year.

This program is designed to offer you choices when considering a career in the construction sector. It exposes you to a variety of trades allowing you to determine where your interests lie. The program will prepare you with basic skills that will assist you in taking the next steps in your career path.

• Semester 1: Electrical/Millwrighting
• Semester 2: Sheet Metal/Air Conditioning/Carpentry
• Semester 3: Welding/Steamfitting/Plumbing

Through practical projects interwoven with theoretical learning, you will gain confidence and experience in the individual trade sections, giving you the information necessary to make informed career choices as well as a good understanding of the construction process.

Mobile application development is one of the fastest growing sectors of information technology. This three-semester program will help students develop a wide variety of skills related to developing, testing and deploying applications for mobile phones and tablets. The main focus of the program is the two leading platforms in mobile devices: iOS and Android.

Java and Swift programming languages are covered in this program so students have an easier transition in developing mobile applications. Client-side development tools such as HTML 5, CSS3 and JavaScript are covered, as well as aspects of server-side programming to complement mobile application development. To synthesize all learning outcomes, students will participate in either a co-op work term or applied project that will provide the experience necessary to improve graduate employability.

Students will learn strategies related to the development of mobile applications from a business perspective such as performing competitive research and exploring revenue-generating approaches. They will also be exposed to the process of App Store and Android Market submissions.

Your Field Education Options
To be eligible for co-op, a student must complete all Semester 1 and Semester 2 courses. As well, an overall GPA of 3.0 must be achieved. During the third semester of the program, students may choose whether to apply for a co-op position or take a Work Integrated Learning course that includes an industry-sponsored project.

The General Arts and Science two-year (four semesters) diploma is designed to develop the essential skills needed for advanced studies, including university transfer and professional specialization. The program includes a wide range of subjects within the Arts and Humanities, Social Sciences, and Science. It emphasizes advanced skills in research and writing, oral communications and critical thinking, providing excellent preparation for work, as well as for further vocational and university studies.

Students acquire knowledge and engage with ideas in a wide range of disciplines. Interdisciplinary approaches enable students to explore and relate relevant concepts and issues to individuals, the environment, and the workplace.

A solid grounding in engineering sciences and practical hands-on experience in mechanical shops and computer assisted design laboratories provide the combination of applied and theoretical knowledge that employers expect in today’s integrated work environments.

In the third year of the program, teams plan and craft their own creations that require the application of all of the knowledge accumulated throughout the program. Once built, projects such as medical devices, entertainment equipment, solar-powered products and automotive accessories are often put on display and form an important part of the student assessment. More importantly, graduates learn to work in teams while solidifying their mechanical engineering knowledge and skills.

Note: If you enrol in the program in January, you must complete semester 2 in the summer (May to August) of the same year.

Your Field Education Options
Field study in the form of applied research is provided to all students.

Some students will also have the opportunity to complete a Co-op term. Co-op participants will be selected based on their academic performance, including a minimum GPA of 3.0 and an interview component.

The International Fashion Management program is a one-year graduate certificate program* designed for the student or industry professional with a serious interest in the international apparel business.

The program provides you with the skills essential to succeed in the global apparel market. As new communication technologies make the world a smaller place, more possibilities for the fashion industry emerge on an international scale, along with many related career opportunities.

You are exposed to world trade through the study of economic, legal and cultural factors that affect international trade policies. Specifically, the focus of study is on the understanding of business practices, global marketing, logistics and supply chain management as they relate to the fashion industry worldwide. The program content combines analytical and management skills, along with knowledge of world culture and understanding of the global economy, to enable success in the international apparel industry.

Electromechanical Engineering Technology – Power and Control is designed to provide students with both theoretical and practical experience, enabling them to work in a wide variety of electrical engineering areas including power and control systems, utilities, industrial automation and robotics, instrumentation and process control. The curriculum incorporates theory, applications, practical experience and safety practices from power systems, utilities, manufacturing, control system, automation and computer industries, along with concepts from the sciences and humanities to ensure the graduate is equipped with technical knowledge, skills and practice.

The Information Systems Business Analysis graduate certificate program at George Brown College is designed to meet the urgent need for professionals who can be the key liaison between business and information technology functions within an organization. This intensive program is designed for IT or business professionals who aspire to enter into a business analyst role, or practitioners who wish to enhance their experience with formal education. This Sustainable Fashion Production graduate certificate program prepares graduates to manage the manufacturing process of small batch apparel products. Pre-production analysis, selection of appropriate techniques and technology, flow and efficiency, human resource ethics, environmental concerns, and quality and costing are assessed and applied for the sustainable production of small batch apparel products.

Students will examine manufacturing methods including lean, machinery, material requirements and production flow, and observe first hand the development and manufacture of apparel products. Management of production will be experienced through the development of costing, capacity, process mapping, work measurement, value stream mapping and other planning tools.

Students will learn to conduct an analysis of environmental impact aand ethical treatment of production workers to discern optimum sustainable product development and manufacturing decisions. Students will use industry technology, such as product lifecycle management tools, to track apparel products through product development and manufacturing stages. While the context of this program is apparel, the processes, management tools and knowledge could be applied to product design in other fields.

Your Field Education Options

• Students complete a Field Education preparation course in semester 2 and will be required to connect with an industry employer where they must complete 160 hours of field education in semester three.
