Overview

The Jewellery Arts program focuses on goldsmithing techniques and design skills that are necessary to succeed as a jewellery designer and goldsmith. You learn all aspects of jewellery making – sawing, filing, soldering, casting and polishing, and the particulars of working with silver, gold and gemstones. You are required to utilize various design strategies and study the wide variety of jewellery forms open to you as a designer. Skills in the application of the creative process are important. Use of technology and fundamental jewellery business skills are integral to the program.

You are encouraged to work to the highest goldsmithing standards as you create jewellery with precious metals and gemstones. Projects are designed to advance technical and design skills, while at the same time permitting individual expression. An annual jewellery exhibition showcases graduating students' projects. Students have the opportunity to participate in numerous competitions, and to volunteer for and attend industry events.

The Fashion Management program prepares you with essential knowledge and skills required to meet the Canadian fashion industry's core business needs. You will also be able to apply the tools of marketing and merchandising to maximize product success in the market. This program is designed to meet the needs of today's Canadian market, which has shifted to product development, niche markets and omni-channel retail.

The Fashion Management program is the only academic program curriculum in Canada identified by the American Apparel and Footwear Association (AAFA) as an affiliate school. The concepts of developing, sourcing and marketing a product from initial idea to retail sale are introduced. You will test and problem-solve for quality assurance; develop buying, merchandising and marketing plans; examine logistics processes; and work as a team to manage a retail store.

As we advance further into this increasingly digital world, Artificial Intelligence and Data Science will revolutionize most industries by optimizing business processes and automating decision-making in many white-collar jobs. The Applied A.I. Solutions Development program will instill graduates with the skills needed to provide existing businesses and emerging startups with the tools required to thrive in the digital revolution.

This three-semester graduate certificate program uses a hands-on, applied approach to the field of A.I., giving students the broad range of skills needed to excel in this rapidly growing industry.

It teaches the development and application of Machine Learning/Deep Learning models and provides a fundamental understanding of the underlying mathematical algorithms that power them. This combination of knowledge and skills will allow graduates to identify and select appropriate algorithms for a given use, build and fine-tune models, and visualize and effectively communicate the resulting data, thereby bridging the traditional roles of Data Scientist, Machine Learning Engineer and Business Translator.

Your Field Education Options

  • To be eligible for co-op, a student must complete all Semester 1 and Semester 2 courses. As well, an overall GPA of 3.0 must be achieved.
  • During the third semester of the program, students may choose whether to apply for a Co-op position or take a Work Integrated Learning course that includes an industry-sponsored project.

    • Identify, evaluate and manage relevant data sources to support data analytics and to meet organizational needs.
    • Recommend different systems, architectures and data storage technologies to support data-driven solutions.
    • Develop and deploy complete Machine Learning/Deep Learning production systems for a variety of industry use cases that meet the needs of a specific operational/business process.
    • Assess and apply appropriate mathematical models, algorithms, tools and frameworks to develop A.I.-enabled, industry-specific solutions.
    • Design and present A.I. solutions effectively to stakeholders through the use of data visualizations.
    • Apply legal, ethical, privacy and security-related standards and considerations in data science projects in a manner that protects privacy and confidentiality, addresses data bias and transparency, and ensures data integrity.
    • Implement artificial intelligence systems on time and budget using best practices and strategies in design thinking, project management and lifecycle management.
    • Design artificial intelligence (A.I.) systems through the application of systematic approaches and methodologies to meet growing organizational needs.

Whether it’s online or console, cell phone or PC-based, the game industry in Canada is large and growing rapidly. Game developers and publishers in the Greater Toronto Area range from small specialized units to mid-sized companies to Microsoft, Nintendo and other industry leaders.

Computer and game programmers are the fundamental resource for companies that develop, produce, distribute and market computer-based games. In fact, our industry advisors tell us it is the technical skills that are most in demand – a demand that this George Brown program is focused on meeting.

Students in George Brown’s three-year Game – Programming advanced diploma program will learn the technical skills they need to be successful in the job market by learning “the language of gaming” (C and C++), as well as artificial intelligence, 3D graphics and much more.

The added advantage of this program is that students will also be taught by George Brown’s School of Design faculty throughout the program, working closely with design students to create games, explore all aspects of the game industry, and learn to work in teams, just as they will in industry. Classes take place at George Brown’s Casa Loma and St. James Campuses. Some courses are offered online, and in some semesters, evening courses may be required.

Note: Students who start the program in January (Winter term) will be required to attend classes during the summer months (May to August).

  • Analyze the history of video games to compare various approaches to game development.

  • Develop strategies for ongoing personal and professional development to enhance work performance in the games industry.
