In Humber’s Film and Television Production (FMTV) advanced diploma program, you will gain hands-on experience with production and digital cinematography equipment from your first days at school. Industry experts will train you in the skills required for success in the film industry. Work Placement
The program features a work placement that runs from four to eight weeks. Instructors work with students to find a suitable placement, enabling them to hone their skill sets in a professional environment. Toronto and southern Ontario are home to numerous television and film production, post-production, lighting and sound companies. Humber has strong relationships with these firms, with many having worked with students before, giving you an advantage when applying for your placement.

Humber’s Bachelor of Engineering program begins with a common platform of first year courses which provide foundational engineering knowledge and skills. Following the first year, the curriculum branches into three different discipline areas: Information Systems Engineering, Mechatronics, and The Built Environment.  

The Bachelor of Engineering - Information Systems Engineering discipline prepares you for an interdisciplinary field of study that encompasses rapidly changing, evolving and converging areas of computer, software, networking, telecommunications, mobile applications, internet and cyber security. Following the first year, the curriculum covers the core courses in various subjects such as digital systems, operating systems, embedded systems, communication engineering, software engineering, mobile applications and systems, and more. The graduates from the Wireless Telecommunications graduate certificate program are 5G ready. The 5G communications platform will support future innovations in the area of the Internet of Things, augumented reality, industrial automation and automated vehicles including drones. Our graduates build and maintain the infrastructure of communication systems. They learn what it takes to be successful in the communications industry. The wireless program focuses on three main outcomes: RF and Optical test and measurement, IP addressing and networking, and troubleshooting of a number of wireless protocols and systems. 

Our graduates understand the engineering tools and equipment for the testing of systems including drive test tools, RF and Optical test equipment, protocol analyzers, and virtualization and virtualized tools. Humber’s Cloud Computing Ontario Graduate Certificate provides you with the knowledge, skills and practices to become integral parts of cloud development and delivery in a variety of industrial settings. Utilizing a case methodology approach, students are exposed to everyday business challenges in order to develop experience in areas such as containerization, virtualization, data storage and security, and automation. 

Six courses in the first semester are designed to provide foundational knowledge and skills in cloud computing to students who may have a wide range of backgrounds. In Humber’s Radio and Media Production graduate certificate program, students develop the skills to make entertaining and engaging broadcasts and podcasts. Imagine combining the experience of your degree or diploma with new skills in audio storytelling and broadcasting. Graduates of our program are working in all aspects of radio and podcast production across Canada. Many are instrumental in some of Canada's most popular podcasts, and some have been recognized at the 2019 Canadian Podcasting Awards.
Students get hands-on experience in radio and audio production studio techniques; on-air announcing, newscast performance and sports reporting; hosting live music and public affairs programs; writing stories, shows, commercials and scripts, radio programming and promotions; interviewing techniques and more. They produce exciting audio and visual content including video and podcasts in Humber’s leading-edge production studios.
Students learn about the latest trends and developments in broadcasting and podcasting, and prepare for careers in media production including on-air, on-camera, online and social media.  They create original digital audio content and experience the thrill of having their work distributed by broadcast on the radio, podcast streaming or other means including social media.
Students take intensive classes and workshops with expert faculty where they apply their new skills to studio and broadcast operations.  By second semester, students can choose to perform live in our streaming or broadcast radio stations as a music host, newscaster or announcer. Hands-on training in on-air performance is provided through Humber’s student radio station, on 96.9FM, which is also streamed online and through various listening apps. Alternatively, students can choose to focus on creative studio production techniques and on-air operations.
Work Placement
This program includes a work placement component to give students an opportunity to gain valuable practical experience in their area of interest in the radio and audio production industries. The 160 hour placement is done in the summer semester after two semesters of study and practice.

Humber’s Baking and Pastry Arts Management diploma program, taught in our state-of-the-art baking and pastry labs, is designed to propel you into a career in the baking and pastry industry. Learn how to make impressive confectionery creations such as:

You will gain hands-on experience working in various settings, individually and as a team member, creating baking and pastry delicacies. The first year of the program consists of foundational courses while in second year, you begin in-depth training in baking and pastry arts. You will learn the foundation of traditional and contemporary techniques in baking and pastry arts management exploring measurements, safety and sanitation, and various types of dough. As well, you’ll study the emerging opportunities of this specialized field, international trends and applications used in the industry. Areas of study in the program also include courses in business and career management, entrepreneurship, and computer applications for the food-service industry, as well as general education and communications courses. Our seven on-campus kitchen labs comprise the most modern facilities in the world. Qualified students will complete an unpaid work placement in the baking and pastry industry in the Greater Toronto Area for seven weeks in the fourth semester (40 hours per week). Students will also be able to apply for placements across Canada and Europe, which have jump-started many successful careers.

Industrial designers design products for consumers.  Examples include sports footwear, headphones, wearables and automobiles. Graduates of the program are in high demand for the practical skills gained through the program’s hands-on learning environment. These skills include sketching, digital graphic rendering, model-making and computer-aided design (CAD).  The program is project driven, and many of the design projects will involve industry collaboration to ensure real-world relevance.

Students elect a design specialization in Year 3 in one of:

  • Automotive design
  • Product design or
  • Interaction design

Automotive designers design the appearance (styling) of motor vehicles including automobiles, motorcycles and off-road vehicles. Humber is the only industrial design program in Canada that offers an automotive design specialization. 
In product design, there is more emphasis on the method of finding a solution to a user’s problem in order to make doing a task easier or make the user experience with the product more satisfying.
Interaction design is a new offering in the program which recognizes that more and more physical products are integrating a digital component, including touch screens or voice activation.

The program blends classroom theory with laboratory work on subjects such as electric devices, circuits, digital fundamentals, power generation and distribution, electrical computer-aided design (CAD), electrical codes, programming PLCs and industrial communications.

During the third year of this program, you’ll learn advanced skills to design, operate and maintain electrical equipment and instruments in automated manufacturing, environmental and power systems.

Then it adds industry-specific skills and knowledge you will need to start your career in this dynamic industry including courses in golf operations, principles of golf, turf management, golf course design, bar and restaurant operations, retail management, and tournament operations and event planning.

Our students have access to our world-class Golf Lab facility, including three golf simulator bays, putting green, golf club build and repair shop, and proshop. Within this facility, our students will gain hands-on experience with the latest golf technology, software and equipment. They will also receive golf coaching, club fitting and swing analysis from our team of PGA of Canada members. 

At Humber, you will learn from the pros – leaders in the golf industry who are keen to share their knowledge and skill to educate and inspire you. Our program is taught by recognized professionals, including Bob Beauchemin – former PGA touring pro, former Canadian Tour Commissioner and National Post top 50 golf instructor in Canada. Our advisory committee is comprised of top golf industry professionals who review our program to keep it on the cutting edge.

Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of the program, a graduate will:

  • Perform computations associated with compound interest, simple and general annuities, amortization, discounted cash flow and net present value.
  • Examine the purposes and activities of organizations of various types, size and structures, and the interrelationship of functional areas within an organization.
  • Assess and evaluate opportunities within the Canadian golf industry.
  • Develop spreadsheets and apply word processing, presentation software and database skills.
  • Prepare and present financial statements and demonstrate basic understanding of their use.
  • Apply the principles of composition and the grammar and punctuation skills necessary to the writing process.
  • Develop and manage marketing strategies for the professional golf industry.
  • Describe and explain human resource policies, procedures and programmers for large and small organizations.
  • Manage golf related activities of the Pro Shop.
  • Evaluate the economic behaviour and issues that impact Canadian business and apply economic data in decision making.
  • Explain the various turf grasses used on golf courses and their benefits.
  • Explain the issues to be considered in developing or redeveloping a golf facility.
  • Examine how financial information is used in planning and controlling the operations of a business enterprise.
  • Evaluate financial markets and the effect they have on nations, governments, central banks and the outcomes of elections.
  • Organize and coordinate golf events including golf cart fleet management, prizes, sponsors, food and beverage.
  • Explain the four KEYS to profitable restaurant and bar management.
  • Engage in the development of a strategic market plan, make decisions regarding the plan and assess the business implications if the decisions.
  • Prepare a business plan for a small business enterprise associated with the golf industry.
  • Explain Canada’s legal system and law with an emphasis on law in Ontario in business environments.
  • Record, present and analyze data used in forecasting and decision-making.
  • Develop lesson plans and demonstrate appropriate use of the media to enhance learning.
  • Demonstrate the physical skills of golf such as putting, chipping and sand play.
  • Explain the structure and purpose of golf associations.

Work Placement
Students in our program enjoy a 100% work placement rate. Our program runs annually on a 6-month in-class/6-month paid work placement schedule - the only one of this kind in Canada, and a key differentiating factor from other programs. Your ability to work two 6-month paid work terms will make you an asset among employers, who are seeking talented professional golf managers. Work placements combine the knowledge and skills you develop in the classroom with practical experience you will gain during your paid work placement.

Humber’s Architectural Technology advanced diploma program will train you to use your logical and critical thinking skills as you apply architectural technology to construction and building design. You’ll learn from full-time, award-winning professors and licensed architects who bring real-life perspective and valuable industry contacts to you. The curriculum is designed with industry collaboration, ensuring you are learning current and relevant material. In the program, you will learn:

  • Computer-aided drawing, building methods and project management using the most current computer programs such as AutoCAD and Revit (Building Information Modelling)
  • Construction technologies for materials such as wood frame, steel, masonry and precast concrete, and project management skills
  • Hands-on skills including building code, building specifications, estimating, and structural and mechanical knowledge
  • Sustainable design skills needed in today’s eco-friendly architectural technology field

Courses include instruction in freehand sketching, history of architecture, renovation and restoration, site planning, and technical communications. Architectural Technology electives include bath and kitchen, interior detailing, building code (legal), small building residential design and more.

Get hands-on experience in the architectural technology industry during an optional architectural field placement. The placement normally takes place from May through August following semester four (minimum 400 hours). Humber provides a range of services to support students including working with business, industry and government to identify work placement opportunities.

  • In producing design and construction documents for architectural offices

  • As sales representatives for construction equipment manufacturers
  • As building inspectors and plan examiners for municipalities
