Humber’s Electrical Engineering Technician – Control Systems diploma program focuses on three major concentrations in electrical engineering:

• Power industry
• Process instrumentation
• Programmable logic controllers (PLCs).

Our courses are designed in collaboration with an industry advisory panel, ensuring you learn current and relevant material. The program blends classroom theory with laboratory work on subjects such as electric devices and circuits, digital and programming fundamentals, power generation and distribution, electrical computer-aided design and drafting (CADD), electrical code, programmable logic controllers (PLCs), and technical communications.

Complex and challenging assignments prepare you for the realities of a control systems and electrical engineering career. Jump-start your career in the power industry, process instrumentation field as a control specialist or working with programmable logic controllers (PLCs). Our graduates can find work as technicians – designing, maintaining, servicing or selling automated industrial, electrical machines, electrical control, power and process instrumentation systems and equipment. The Advanced Chocolate and Confectionery Artistry graduate certificate program offers you an opportunity to develop high-level skills in pastry arts. Using advanced techniques and sophisticated equipment, you will design and produce artisanal chocolates and confections, international desserts, frozen preparations, and multi-tiered special occasion cakes in Humber's state-of-the-art bake labs. You will research current trends and emerging technologies in chocolate and confectionery with a focus on sustainability and environmental stewardship. Studies in entrepreneurship, and recipe and product development will culminate in the launch of a branded product.

This program is offered in a flexible learning environment allowing students to learn online, in-class or in a hybrid format. Practical classes take place in the evening to accommodate working professionals.

The Artificial Intelligence with Machine Learning Ontario Graduate Certificate was developed to fill the need for a growing and in-demand skillset. Designed for students with experience in computer programming, software development or computer science, students learn the fundamentals of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML) to apply AI models and ML algorithms to a broad range of practical applications including natural language processing, image processing, computer vision and for business decision making. Students will also gain experience in applying AI tools in data analytics and data mining. Technical skills will be complemented by knowledge in regulations, policy and ethics in applying AI technology, as well as project management, communication and teamwork skills.

In the final semester, learners complete an industry-supervised capstone project to solve real-world problems and to showcase skills and knowledge that they have learned in the program. Their projects are showcased at an exhibition event to industry partners, community leaders, faculties and peer students. The program also provides opportunities to engage with a broad community and industry network through guest speakers, network events and applied research in collaboration with industry partners.

Upon successful completion of the program, a graduate will:

1. Design and implement secure artificial intelligence and machine learning software systems and applications using data science, mathematics, data mining principles, algorithms and tools to meet client needs.

Humber’s Mechanical Engineering Technology advanced diploma program prepares you for a career in the design and manufacturing of mechanical components and applications. The curriculum covers the theory and the skills required to:

• Program computer numerical control (CNC) machine tools using computer-aided manufacturing (CAM) software – Mastercam
• Apply design principles and practices
• Design and manufacture process problems
• Learn 2D computer-aided design (CAD) software - AutoCAD, 3D CAD software – SolidWorks
• Design and manufacture mechanical parts and assemblies
• Apply design principles and practices to a variety of engineering problems and environments

Our program builds upon the solid technical foundation of the Mechanical Engineering Technician program. The skills first learned in the technician program are enhanced through project-based learning and increased hands-on practice in the labs.

This program offers a co-op option. Co-op work terms enable you to apply your skills and knowledge in a work environment and gain valuable, practical experience related to your program of study. You will learn new skills, learn about the world of work and meet people in your profession. For students who are accepted into the program, three co-op work terms will take place. The first four-month work term is between Semesters 2 and 3, and then two consecutive four-month work terms between Semesters 4 and 5.  There are limited spaces in the co-op option. Therefore, you will apply for the co-op option during Semester 1 and be informed of the process by which to apply.  While co-op work opportunities are not guaranteed, as students are in a competitive job placement market, participating students will receive a wide range of services to help them find a co-op opportunity.

Begin a career designing and manufacturing with a Mechanical Engineering Technology advanced diploma. Our graduates are able to perform engineering design and equipment/technology selection for major components in the design of mechanical systems; liaise with fabrication and engineering staff, as well as with vendors, for technical information and specifications; prepare preliminary and final cost estimates; and prepare and evaluate production processes, costing, tool design and inspection requirements. Graduates work in two main areas:

• Drafting and design, equipment testing, mechanical equipment installation and consulting engineering offices
• The metal cutting industries, programming, cost estimating, quality control and inspection, and in machinery sales

Humber’s Journalism graduate certificate program will immerse you in advanced research, writing and interview practices, data mining techniques, and a range of storytelling approaches for work within a multiplatform journalistic or information-gathering environment. You will also have the opportunity to pursue discipline-specific reporting in areas such as science, business, sports and the arts.

Using the latest technologies, the program will focus on training graduates for the field of journalism with an emphasis on digital journalism. Graduates will be able to function in a digital/online environment including social media and data-based journalism. An emphasis will be placed on providing you with opportunities to practise and develop your journalism skills through coverage of live field events.

Work Placement
You'll gain valuable first-hand experience through a mandatory work placement, usually unpaid, in the final semester of your studies.

Humber's 3D Modelling and Visual Effects Production certificate program focuses on both the conceptual and the technical, as you learn to master visual techniques to bring ideas to life. You will develop skills in modelling, texturing and lighting, as well as in visual effects, compositing and digital cinematography. We employ a teaching process and course structure that requires content created in one course to be used to complete assignments in other courses. This “pipeline” process mirrors that of industry, allowing students to make a seamless transition into a real production environment.

The program is designed by artists for experienced traditional artists and animators who want to either develop or transition their skill sets for employment in the 3D and visual effects industries. The faculty take their years of industry experience into the classroom, straight from the studio. Their collective experience and passion in the gaming, television and film industries is the driving force that ensures the program meets the current and future needs of the industry.

January intake scheduling: students will benefit from our streamlined flexible schedule, allowing them to work their day jobs while they study for their dream jobs. Our schedule will have students on campus and in classes on evenings and weekends. Students will study in our state-of-the-art labs equipped with Cintiq tablets and the latest tools and software.

Work Placement

• The work placement consists of two components and occurs across industry sectors including professional and amateur sport, sport governing bodies, sport marketing and event management companies, community and private sector sport organizations. The placement provides valuable experience and industry contacts. The first component of the placement is concurrent with coursework and is a minimum of 210 hours. The second component of the placement is six weeks in length and a minimum of 35 hours per week.

Humber’s Post-Production graduate certificate program will develop the technological skills, creative and critical abilities you will need to thrive in the post-production industry. You will gain a firm grounding in industry-standard, non-linear video editing software. Through lectures and hands-on work, you will learn the fundamentals of the technical and aesthetic creation of digital media content and get the opportunity to specialize and target specific post-production skills to maximize your marketability in a competitive industry.

You will learn how to collaborate with other departments in the production chain, and how to develop efficient broadcast standard workflows. You will be introduced to the theory and practice of picture and sound editing/mixing, VFX and motion graphics creation, and you will learn how to make professional contacts, engage with employers and guilds, and the basic business skills you will need as a freelancer. You will study the fundamentals of branding and graphic design and produce a marketable portfolio website.

With technology as its main focus, your sound, picture, and visual effects compositing skills will enable you to create content to the industry standards required in the competitive media environment.

Work Placement

• This program includes a mandatory work placement. We work with you to find a suitable placement in your chosen field of specialization, allowing you to apply the skills you’ve learned in a professional environment. Placements will take place in post-production houses and media companies in Toronto. Work placements are typically unpaid but provide you with the opportunity to further your knowledge in your chosen field and begin to build your resumé and network of professional contacts.

Humber’s Mechanical Engineering Technician diploma program gives you a thorough knowledge of materials and mechanical solutions for designing and manufacturing mechanical parts and assemblies. The curriculum includes courses in solids mechanics, mechanical design, hydraulics, pneumatics, programmable logic controllers (PLCs), manufacturing and management. You will be able to develop the manufacturing procedures to produce mechanical components.

Begin a career designing and manufacturing with our Mechanical Engineering Technician diploma. According to the Canadian Government’s Working in Canada website, the outlook for jobs in this field is positive. “Due to a concentration of employers such as power plants, large automotive manufacturers and other transportation and goods manufacturers, openings for mechanical engineers should remain steady,” says the report. “Job openings in this field should arise from the creation of new power facilities and production increases in the transportation equipment manufacturing, including aircraft.” Graduates find employment in areas related to mechanical design, production, testing, consulting and service industries, as well as in machine tool sales and service departments. Demand is growing for graduates in fields related to the sustainable economy and in consulting engineering particularly for companies engaged in infrastructure projects.

This is one of the few Pre-Health Pathway programs with real science lab experience with no prior lab experience/studies necessary. There are a multitude of careers in health sciences, and this program is a pathway to explore your options. You will strengthen your science, writing and math skills, and explore career paths in biotechnology, pharmacy technician, registered or practical nursing, Chinese medicine, paramedicine and more.
