Humber’s Paralegal graduate certificate program prepares you for an exciting career in the legal field. You will gain skills in legal research, oral and written advocacy, critical thinking and problem solving through a case-based and problem-based learning environment. Courses include tort and contract law, residential landlord and tenant law, employment law, small claims court, provincial offences and summary convictions, and administrative tribunal law and procedures. In Humber’s Film and Television Production (FMTV) advanced diploma program, you will gain hands-on experience with production and digital cinematography equipment from your first days at school. Industry experts will train you in the skills required for success in the film industry. Find your niche and develop team-building and collaboration skills by working in specialized roles on commercials, documentaries and short films. A wide variety of filmmaking, editing and cinematography courses will help you achieve well-rounded capabilities and create head-turning work.

In our FMTV program you will:

• Fine tune film and TV production abilities using industry-standard production equipment in large, well-equipped studios and state-of-the-art video and audio editing suites

Work Placement
The program features a work placement that runs from four to eight weeks. Instructors work with students to find a suitable placement, enabling them to hone their skill sets in a professional environment. Toronto and southern Ontario are home to numerous television and film production, post-production, lighting and sound companies. Humber has strong relationships with these firms, with many having worked with students before, giving you an advantage when applying for your placement.

Humber’s Food and Nutrition Management diploma program prepares you for a supervisory role that combines the dynamic world of food service with the expanding world of health care. This is an ideal program if you love food, have a keen interest in the science of nutrition and enjoy managing people in a fast-paced environment.

Our faculty has extensive industry experience and will prepare you for your career in a variety of courses taught in state-of-the-art culinary lab facilities. You will have the opportunity to join student branches of the Canadian Association of Foodservice Professionals (CAFP) and the Canadian Society of Nutrition Management (CSNM). As student members, you will build on your networking skills in the foodservice and hospitality sector and have the opportunity to apply to association-sponsored bursaries and scholarships.

Our program is recommended if you are starting your career path, are currently working in the food service or health-care industries, or if you have a background in culinary arts or hospitality. The Food and Nutrition Management diploma and the Nutrition and Healthy Lifestyle Promotion diploma share a common first year.

Work Placement
Work placements are a valuable way to gain experience in the field and build contacts. You will complete a five-week full-time placement in the health-care foodservice industry.

Work placements take place at the end of the fourth semester. Possible locations include:

• Food suppliers, manufacturers and distributors

Humber’s Broadcast Television/Videography (BRTV) diploma program will quickly prepare you for media content creation in operational and production roles. An intensive, behind-the-scenes look at broadcasting will give you a solid grounding in video production skills and broadcast standards. This program is an excellent starting point for anyone who wants to work behind the scenes in television production and features a wide variety of courses, as well as field experience opportunities, empowering graduates for success in the broadcast industry.

You will learn about:

• writing, planning and producing content

Your hands-on broadcasting education will be enriched by access to Humber’s high-definition television mobile truck—the most advanced of its kind among Ontario colleges. This compact, 35-foot television facility features state-of-the-art broadcast equipment including the latest cameras, video production switcher, digital recording system, broadcast graphics software and editing facilities.

Humber has a strong reputation in the television broadcasting industry.BRTV students regularly produce and live stream Humber Hawks varsity games and esport tournaments. BRTV students have also worked with Maple Leaf Sports and Entertainment (MLSE) on National Lacrosse League games and with Double Black Diamond Productions on internationally broadcast FIS World Cup events.

Note: the January 2020 program start will offer a hybrid curriculum for Semesters 1 and 2. A hybrid curriculum is a blend of face-to-face and online. Semester 2 will be offered from May to August. Semesters 3 and 4 (September to April) will be comprised of face-to-face class time.

Humber’s Journalism graduate certificate program will immerse you in advanced research, writing and interview practices, data mining techniques, and a range of storytelling approaches for work within a multiplatform journalistic or information-gathering environment. You will also have the opportunity to pursue discipline-specific reporting in areas such as science, business, sports and the arts.

Using the latest technologies, the program will focus on training graduates for the field of journalism with an emphasis on digital journalism. Graduates will be able to function in a digital/online environment including social media and data-based journalism. Work Placement
Get hands-on experience in the industry with a 160-hour (minimum) work placement that will give you the opportunity to apply what you have learned in the classroom. Students initiate the placement with the aid of faculty, targeting companies in the Greater Toronto Area. Placements can be completed on a part-time basis throughout the academic year, or full time during the term immediately at the end of the program.

Careers in the golf industry include operating and managing golf facilities, event management, teaching and training, golf equipment sales and custom fitting, travel and tourism, marketing, sales, retail, and catering, among many more. 

Humber’s Business Administration – Professional Golf Management advanced diploma program provides a solid foundation of transferable business skills in accounting, communications, computer applications, economics, entrepreneurship, finance, human resources, law, marketing, management, mathematics, statistics and business strategy. Then it adds industry-specific skills and knowledge you will need to start your career in this dynamic industry including courses in golf operations, principles of golf, turf management, golf course design, bar and restaurant operations, retail management, and tournament operations and event planning.

Our students have access to our world-class Golf Lab facility, including three golf simulator bays, putting green, golf club build and repair shop, and proshop. Within this facility, our students will gain hands-on experience with the latest golf technology, software and equipment. They will also receive golf coaching, club fitting and swing analysis from our team of PGA of Canada members.

Humber’s Electrical Engineering Technician – Control Systems diploma program focuses on three major concentrations in electrical engineering:

• Power industry
• Process instrumentation
• Programmable logic controllers (PLCs).

Our courses are designed in collaboration with an industry advisory panel, ensuring you learn current and relevant material. Humber’s Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) Practitioner advanced diploma program is the first and only publicly funded program of its kind offered at a postsecondary institution in Canada. This intensive program is grounded in the TCM Practitioner skillset which has been approved by all provincial TCM regulators in Canada and provides students with the skills and professional experience necessary to become a TCM Practitioner in Ontario. Through a combination of theoretical course-based instruction, as well as several clinical placements, you will gain a necessary understanding of Traditional Chinese and Western medicine practices. Moreover, graduates of the TCM Practitioner program will be trained to conduct a TCM diagnosis and develop appropriate treatment plans by utilizing their skills in acupuncture, herbal medicine, clinical practice management, professionalism and safety. This program is also committed to the promotion of evidence-informed practice of TCM through scientific research.

Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of the program, a graduate will:

• Critically analyze and evaluate Traditional Chinese Medicine Practitioner (TCMP) theories and treatment methods to develop professional knowledge and skills required for the profession.

Work Placement

• There are seven mandatory clinical placements that provide students with progressive, professional practice experience in diagnosing, preparing treatment plans, inter-professional collaboration and safe practices. Clinical placements occur throughout the year at community TCM and multi-discipline clinics within the greater Toronto area, as well as at our on-site partner clinic, the Tzu Chi Clinic of Traditional Chinese Medicine. The clinical component of the program offers more than 800 hours of direct patient contact, which exceeds the regulatory body minimum requirement of 500 hours.
