Overview
Humber’s Pharmacy Technician diploma program prepares graduates for various careers in pharmacy including community, hospital, industry and long-term care settings.
Enjoy hands-on learning in simulated labs with low student/teacher ratios and expert faculty who are active in the pharmacy profession. In addition, learn from guest speakers who are pharmaceutical industry experts.
Courses are designed in consultation with practising pharmacy professionals and focus on key competency categories such as legal and ethical responsibilities, patient care, product distribution, health promotion, knowledge application, communication, intra- and inter-professional collaboration, and error prevention. Students apply their learning in simulated labs and during placements, providing valuable real-life experience.
Work Placement
Students will complete two unpaid four-week work placements under the supervision of a pharmacist/technician in Semester 4: one in a retail/community pharmacy and one in a hospital pharmacy setting. Students will be offered a selection of approved placement sites and will rank their preferences. Every effort will be made to place students at one of their preferred sites. Hospital pharmacy placements may be outside of the Greater Toronto area. The placements provide important workplace experience and industry contacts.

Students who wish to work in Canada require a work permit to do so. A student in Canada can work part-time during the course of his studies and full-time during holidays and semester breaks and post the completion of their course/program.
You can also work part-time on campus at your university.

Your part-time work permit will be valid for as long as you have a valid study permit.

Humber’s Business Administration advanced diploma program allows you to develop extensive knowledge on how businesses work and teaches you to become competent in the full range of skills needed to facilitate business operations.

Work Placement

Graduate Certificate in Exercise Science and Lifestyle Management
Humber’s Exercise Science and Lifestyle Management graduate certificate program is designed to build on the knowledge you have acquired in your undergraduate degree by providing in-depth, hands-on instruction in the areas of fitness assessment, health and lifestyle counselling, exercise prescription and delivery, health promotion, group exercise leadership, health and fitness management, marketing and entrepreneurship, ergonomic assessment, and functional abilities assessment. Students learn in small groups instructed by expert faculty currently employed in the fitness and health industry.
Our advisory committee provides regular review and input into our curriculum, ensuring our program is always on the cutting edge of industry developments.
Please note that certain courses in the Exercise Science and Lifestyle Management program require students to participate in fitness classes that will involve physical activity, which may at times be vigorous. Work Placement
Experiential learning is an integral part of this program. The program features three unpaid internship courses, two of which take place on campus and the third of which takes place off campus. During the on-campus courses, students provide fitness assessments and testing, physical activity counselling and prescription services to Humber and partner employees as part of the Humber Centre for Healthy Living (Humber CHL). Students have the opportunity to run workshops for the Humber CHL and its partners, as well as providing healthy tips and videos for the Humber CHL website. Throughout the on-campus internship courses, students participate in seminars with their professors and classmates to critically analyze their experiences and develop the skills required for professional work.
The final work placement is a four-week block placement off campus with one of Humber’s industry partners.

Humber’s Computer Programmer diploma program is designed to prepare students for a wide variety of employment opportunities within the dynamic and ever-growing field of programming. In addition to learning programming in a variety of languages, from ASP.NET to XML, you will gain an in-depth understanding of industry-standard operating systems and how to use them. You will learn everything from C programming and shell scripts, to back end web design and Java. Upon graduation, you will be equipped with the up-to-date skills you need for success.

Advanced Diploma Computer Engineering Technology (Co-op Optional)
Humber’s Computer Engineering Technology advanced diploma program trains you to develop and design the cutting-edge technologies that propel most businesses and governments around the world.
You will be taught by industry experts, in small classes, skills in hardware and software, electronics and networking, plus a variety of systems. As well, you will learn to upgrade and incorporate new technological advances into existing systems.
The curriculum is designed with industry collaboration, ensuring you are learning the skills that companies require. The program features courses in programming; electronics; networks set up and programming; Linux/Ubuntu installation and configuration; and the network services that lay the groundwork to build software skills and expertise in data communications, networking and security. You’ll develop, install and operate computer embedded and network systems; work on various network protocols and microcontrollers; and learn to refine and develop current applications.
In your final year, you will focus on integrating all your skills by examining the inner workings of networks using different application programming interfaces (APIs) to build network applications, comparing different computer architectures and completing a major project using an embedded system.
Optional Co-op
This program offers a co-op option. Co-op work terms enable you to apply your skills and knowledge in a work environment and gain valuable, practical experience related to your program of study. You will learn new skills, learn about the world of work and meet people in your profession. The current Work Placement Program will continue for the students who started the program before Fall 2019.
For students who are accepted into the program, three co-op work terms will take place. Diploma in Tourism in Travel Services Management
Humber’s Tourism – Travel Services Management diploma program is ideal for those who possess a genuine love of travel, exploration and adventure. The program will provide you with the experience you need to excel in this exciting industry including:
In order to best prepare for this dynamic industry, you will have several opportunities to travel internationally on both short duration trips and for full semesters abroad. In addition, several courses include local travel opportunities that give you hands-on experiences in a variety of tourism and travel products and adventures. In the Trip Planning course, you will plan and execute a travel experience. The program also includes extensive training with the most recognized software systems in the tourism industry.
Fast-track program – Students that start in January will complete the program on a fast-track schedule. The first semester (January to April) is immediately followed by the second semester (May to August), resulting in a short summer break. Students enter Semester 3 in September, completing the two-year program in just 16 months.
Students will apply their skills and knowledge in the fourth semester in a seven-week (32 hours per week) unpaid work placement. The Canadian Retirement Home (also known as Retirement Communities) industry is made up of multiple private residences within a single dwelling where residents live independently but interact frequently for recreation, meals and common interests. It is important to note that retirement homes are not long-term care or nursing homes where support is provided on a daily basis and residents may be housed in multi-resident spaces. The Canadian Retirement Home industry is expected to double in the next five years as Canada experiences a surge in aging baby boomers. This rapid expansion is creating an industry-wide need for qualified staff and retirement home managers.
Students in the Retirement Home Management Graduate Certificate program will be trained to fill this need by developing foundational skills in the areas of leadership, administration, hospitality, financial management, sales and marketing, health, wellness and recreation, food and nutrition, and human resources management. This program was developed with industry professionals from companies (Verve Senior Living, Chartwell Retirement Residences, Revera Retirement Living and others) of various sizes and scopes within the Retirement Home Management industry.

Students will have an opportunity to observe and learn from experienced professionals in a real-life work setting, while integrating their classroom learning in order to gain required hands on experience. Students have the support of a faculty internship co-ordinator and are able to apply to a variety of retirement communities run by our industry partners. We have designed the curriculum in collaboration with an advisory panel comprising highly successful industry experts in order to ensure you are learning the most up-to-date, relevant material.
