The Advanced Health Care Leadership Ontario College Graduate Certificate program prepares graduates for emerging leadership roles within health care settings.

Students will be able to integrate patient and family care theories into current practices which are responsive for a variety of cultures, behaviours, situations and environments. Core concepts of leadership, quality and improvements to patient safety are explored to achieve enhanced patient outcomes. Students will apply professional leadership concepts as a member of a multi-disciplinary health care team in an organization.

This accelerated program is designed to meet industry's future requirements for a skilled workforce. It provides the opportunity for a graduate with an Engineering Technology Degree, Engineering Degree, or Science Degree in Physics or Chemistry, to earn an advanced technical diploma in instrumentation and control within a shorter time frame than those registered in the Instrumentation & Control Engineering Technology program. The accelerated program is delivered in seven terms including three recommended co-op terms. The standard three-year Instrumentation & Control Engineering Technology program includes three co-op terms delivered in nine terms.

The program provides the theory and technical hands-on knowledge to operate, maintain and troubleshoot various control systems. These computer control systems can be used to control countless processes. Instrumentation devices (i.e. transmitters and switches) are used to measure process variables (e.g. composition, temperature, pressure, level, density, mass, flow) in a variety of industrial, commercial and residential applications. Final control elements (i.e. valves, dampers, heaters, electric motors, conveyors) are then used to modify the process to maintain control.

Students enrolled in this program will train in Lambton College’s newly renovated Centre of Excellence in Energy & Bio-Industrial Technologies. The Centre offers state-of-practice technology laboratories and infrastructure to support learning and research in next-generation technologies in collaboration with industry.The program labs replicate real-life manufacturing environments and the technologies developed can easily be scaled-up and transferred to an actual operating unit. Moreover, students in this program will have the opportunity to work in relevant industries within the three co-op terms.

Securing a Co-op
The job market for co-op is very competitive.  Students who have met the co-op eligibility are highly encouraged to actively participate in the recruitment process in the semester prior to their co-op work term. This includes, but is not limited to, attending all recruitment workshops, meeting with your program co-op advisor, regularly searching through the MyCareer Job Posting System and other job posting sites, networking; and contacting potential employers. The MyCareer Centre actively pursues employers, however there may be limited availabilities so students should seek out additional employers to secure their own co-op.

If a co-op position is not secured prior to the start of a co-op semester, students should meet with their program co-op advisor to discuss next steps.  Any student who secures their own position must contact their program co-op advisor prior to the start of employment to determine if this position is considered acceptable as a co-op and to complete the appropriate paperwork to register the co-op.  This is necessary in order for either the insurance to be put in place or for the employer to get a tax credit letter. Students enrolled in a co-operative education program pay a mandatory fee to cover the costs of employer relations development, job development, job-readiness preparation and co-op service administration. Payment of fees does not secure a co-op position.

Many industries, ranging from construction and manufacturing to energy and health care are seeking specially trained workers to support and promote healthier workplaces. The Workplace Safety & Prevention Technician program is uniquely designed to assist students in identifying, assessing, and managing risks in a variety of work environments. Graduates can expect to attain the competencies required to effectively implement and evaluate health and safety systems in occupational settings.

Program curriculum will define health and safety objectives and students will develop corresponding policies and procedures. Emphasis is placed upon the understanding of legislation and recognizing, preventing and evaluating workplace hazards. Students will also develop the skills necessary to identify and report on safety and health conditions in a workplace. 

Graduates will be able to conduct risk assessments and hygiene tests to prevent hazards and harm to workers, property, the environment, and the general public. These graduates may find employment in a variety of industry sectors as safety inspection, auditing, risk management, emergency management, environmental management, and human resource management roles.

The 280-hour field placement prepares students to work with employers to address workplace health and safety. Students will be directly exposed to people, protocols and technology with a focus on injury and disease prevention in the workplace. Program curriculum prepares students for placement in a variety of occupations including all major employment sectors and within the public sector. Students will apply skills and knowledge to anticipate, evaluate, and control a variety of health risks including chemical, biological, physical, and psycho-social related hazards.

The food industry finds itself responding to consumer demands for more refined, sophisticated, and convenient products with an increased responsibility for processors in terms of food safety and quality assurance standards. To help support the ever increasing demand to attract highly-skilled workers to the growing food and beverage processing industry in Ontario, the Food Safety and Quality Assurance Management, Ontario College Graduate Certificate program provides extensive, hands-on training for careers in food and beverage processing, safety and quality assurance. This four term, full-time program is designed for students with previous degrees or diplomas in related sciences, engineering or food safety, and will add to previous education and skills that directly apply to the food processing environment.

Curriculum focuses on principles of food safety and quality assurance standards applicable to the Canadian food and beverage processing industries. Food Chemistry and Microbiology, Food Safety Management Systems, Sanitation along with an in-depth review of Canadian and International Food Laws and Regulations are the core elements of this program. The program offers a unique blend of theoretical and practical knowledge including a co-op/project term to allow students to integrate in the Quality Assurance management team.

Graduates will have strong knowledge of food and beverage processing procedures, sanitation practices, HACCP principles, health and safety practices, food safety standards, as well as good communication, leadership and problem solving skills.

In manufacturing today, there is a continuous need for employees with highly developed skills in testing, processing, and quality assurance of materials. In addition, employers are looking for management skills to plan, implement and coordinate in manufacturing facilities. Encompassing many areas of science, including material science, chemical and material engineering and chemistry, and combining business management curriculum, the Lambton College Applied Manufacturing Management - Advanced Materials Processing, Ontario College Graduate Certificate program provides students with real-world experiences to learn and apply the knowledge and skills required to study the properties and behaviours of engineering polymeric materials used in a range of manufacturing applications in Ontario, Canada, and abroad.

In the program, students develop skills in applied material science and manufacturing. Additional courses include hands-on introductions to chemical analysis, material characterization, composites, nanocomposites and polymers. In addition, students learn the underlying theoretical principles in materials processing and additive manufacturing. Graduates are technically skilled problem-solvers with well-developed business, ethics, communication and analytical skills that can be applied to future careers in advanced manufacturing technology for a variety of industrial, government or consulting organizations.

Co-op Info
Co-op students have the opportunity to apply classroom learning to the workplace. Co-op placement opportunities help students gain valuable work experience that may assist them in finding permanent employment after they graduate. Students have access to our Co-op & Career Advisors who provide comprehensive co-op and career development services and resources for co-op students.

Refrigeration and air conditioning mechanics install, maintain, repair and overhaul residential central air conditioning systems, commercial and industrial refrigeration and air conditioning systems and combined heating, ventilation and cooling systems. The Heating, Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Technician Ontario College Diploma prepares graduates for entry level positions in Electrical, Refrigeration, Sheet Metal or Heating and Air Conditioning Industries. 

Curriculum follows the prescribed TSSA Gas Technician 3 and Gas Technician 2 syllabus, providing an opportunity for external certification. Graduates will also be eligible to write the external Refrigeration Handling Certification - Ozone Depletion Prevention. 

The three-year Business Administration program prepares graduates for a world of business and educational opportunities combining theoretical knowledge with practical application. For those looking to work for an existing corporation, to start their own business, or continue their education with one of Lambton's university pathways, this is the right program for you!

This program has been developed specifically for students to personalize their program of study to suit their abilities and interested and put them on the best possible path for employment. During the first year, students will participate in an active learning environment and be exposed to a curriculum that builds a solid knowledge base of the major areas of business. This lays a foundation for the areas of concentration and for the development of teamwork, leadership, and research skills.

Experiential Learning Opportunities
Because practical work experiences are vital, students are given the option to participate in a co-op work experience in term 5. This provides exposure to a business environment and could provide valuable work experience. In the final year of the program, students will take the entrepreneurship capstone courses which combine assessments and curriculum to challenge the students to utilize all of their knowledge, skills and abilities gained over the course of their program, in a series of culminating reports and presentations that showcase a capstone project. Real world corporate partners are engaged to provide students with even greater experiential learning opportunities.

The Occupational Health & Safety Management Ontario College Graduate Certificate program is a multi-disciplinary program that is designed to encompass a broad range of knowledge in occupational health, safety and environmental management systems that are critical to an organizations success. This program provides students with a strong health and safety foundation by developing the competencies required for the effective development, implementation and evaluation of health and safety systems in occupational settings.

Emphasis is placed upon learning the application of legislation and recognizing, controlling and evaluation workplace hazards. This program will enable students to become leaders in health and safety by motivating proactive behavioural change. Students will anticipate and employ strategies to manage emerging health, safety and environmental issues while examining accident theories, emergency response planning, ergonomic principles, risk management principles and the promotion of workplace safety and wellness.

The Massage Therapy program at Lambton College is well-known provincially and nationally for producing highly qualified and successful Massage Therapists! Graduates of the Lambton College Massage Therapy program perform extremely well at the Provincial Registration exams year after year. In fact, in 2017 85% of the graduates successfully completed the registration exams to become Registered Massage Therapists in Ontario. Lambton College's advanced diploma program will equip students with the academic knowledge, hands on skills, and experiential learning opportunities needed to succeed as a regulated health professional.

This 12-month fast-track program prepares students for the dynamic and growing food industry as a chef or culinary manager. Students will experience all facets of the food industry where food trends and dining culture are constantly evolving. Program curriculum reflects the demanding knowledge and skills required of a successful chef who must constantly adapt to all industry standards regardless of the enterprise.

Faculty are committed to sharing with students the importance of sustainable practices as it applies to purchasing and preparing local foods. New courses on applied nutrition, geographical gastronomy and the science of food and beverage reflect changing consumer tastes.

The program emphasizes the importance of operating a fiscally responsible food business through the application of business principles and costing and control practices. Technology and mobile applications are integrated into business operations with emphasis on the development of marketing and promotional strategies.

Practical application classes are held in small lab sections that allow students to challenge themselves. The supportive learning environment provides more one-on-one discussion and allows flexibility adapting curriculum to the needs of the student. Students develop essential strategies for continuous personal and professional learning and are held to standards that are among the highest in culinary education while developing industry-related skills.

The program prepares students to challenge the in-class portion of the Assistant Cook and Cook Apprentice designations. These are important initial steps towards your pursuit of the Provincial Trade of Cook Certificate of Qualification (Red Seal).

Opportunities for students to “earn while they learn” exist where students are given authentic culinary exposure to hone their skills and enhance their understanding of the operations of the culinary industry while within the program.
