This 12-month fast-track program prepares students for the dynamic and growing food industry as a chef or culinary manager. Students will experience all facets of the food industry where food trends and dining culture are constantly evolving. Program curriculum reflects the demanding knowledge and skills required of a successful chef who must constantly adapt to all industry standards regardless of the enterprise.

Faculty are committed to sharing with students the importance of sustainable practices as it applies to purchasing and preparing local foods. New courses on applied nutrition, geographical gastronomy and the science of food and beverage reflect changing consumer tastes.

The program emphasizes the importance of operating a fiscally responsible food business through the application of business principles and costing and control practices. Technology and mobile applications are integrated into business operations with emphasis on the development of marketing and promotional strategies.

Practical application classes are held in small lab sections that allow students to challenge themselves. The supportive learning environment provides more one-on-one discussion and allows flexibility adapting curriculum to the needs of the student. Students develop essential strategies for continuous personal and professional learning and are held to standards that are among the highest in culinary education while developing industry-related skills.

The program prepares students to challenge the in-class portion of the Assistant Cook and Cook Apprentice designations. These are important initial steps towards your pursuit of the Provincial Trade of Cook Certificate of Qualification (Red Seal).

Opportunities for students to “earn while they learn” exist where students are given authentic culinary exposure to hone their skills and enhance their understanding of the operations of the culinary industry while within the program.

The Lambton College Biomaterials & Chemical Laboratory Analysis - Applied Science, Ontario College Graduate Certificate, two-year program provides focused, experiential education to meet the demands of the energy, advanced materials, cannabis and other natural health product industries. 

In this program, students study advanced concepts in chemistry, biochemistry, biology, physics and mathematics applied to chemical analysis and complex problem solving in a hands-on laboratory environment.

Students conduct tests and develop solutions to problems in analyses of raw materials, products, or environmental samples, synthesize organic or inorganic compounds and prepare reports and technical documentation related to chemical analyses. Within the laboratory environment, graduates implement, coordinate and evaluate quality assurance and quality control procedures, in accordance with international and industry standards and government regulations. The program prepares students to analyze natural products, energy and advanced materials for quality and contribute to research and development.

With ever-increasing numbers of aging people requiring assistance to continue a full life and with changes to the way health care services are delivered, the need has never been greater for Occupational Therapist Assistants and Physiotherapist Assistants.

The Lambton College Occupational Therapist & Physiotherapist Assistant, Ontario College Diploma program will train students to help people of all ages as they strive to recover and regain functional independence from injury, trauma, surgery, or chronic health conditions or illnesses such as cancer, cardiovascular disease, arthritis and mental illness. Students learn how to assist in implementing treatment plans that promote a client's independence in activities that are important to them.

This new and exciting program is being offered in the newly opened NOVA Chemicals Health & Research Centre. The unique program curriculum will engage students throughout a four-term program, as students learn how to assist clients to achieve their health goals. Students develop the ability to work with both professions as they focus their studies on occupational therapy and physical therapy education. The integration of in-class studies with hands-on experience is accomplished through rich experiential lab opportunities and practice in a variety of clinical fieldwork placement settings.

As with many other health-related fields, this program is suitable for compassionate, empathetic students who possess a concern for the well-being of others.

In manufacturing today, there is a continuous need for employees with highly developed skills in testing, processing, and quality assurance of materials. In addition, employers are looking for management skills to plan, implement and coordinate in manufacturing facilities. Encompassing many areas of science, including material science, chemical and material engineering and chemistry, and combining business management curriculum, the Lambton College Applied Manufacturing Management - Advanced Materials Processing, Ontario College Graduate Certificate program provides students with real-world experiences to learn and apply the knowledge and skills required to study the properties and behaviours of engineering polymeric materials used in a range of manufacturing applications in Ontario, Canada, and abroad.

In the program, students develop skills in applied material science and manufacturing. Additional courses include hands-on introductions to chemical analysis, material characterization, composites, nanocomposites and polymers. In addition, students learn the underlying theoretical principles in materials processing and additive manufacturing. Graduates are technically skilled problem-solvers with well-developed business, ethics, communication and analytical skills that can be applied to future careers in advanced manufacturing technology for a variety of industrial, government or consulting organizations.

Co-op Info
Co-op students have the opportunity to apply classroom learning to the workplace. Co-op placement opportunities help students gain valuable work experience that may assist them in finding permanent employment after they graduate. Students have access to our Co-op & Career Advisors who provide comprehensive co-op and career development services and resources for co-op students.

Individuals with a passion for enriching the lives of young children will find support from Lambton College's caring staff as they gain the skills needed to become a knowledgeable, competent Early Childhood Educator. At Lambton College, we are proud of our reputation for excellence in encouraging our students to excel as educators.

This two-year program educates students to work effectively with young children in order to nurture childhood development and maintain healthy relationships with their families. Students are introduced to both theory and practice through technology enhanced classroom theory, and experiential learning in hands-on workshops and field practice. This combination gives students the knowledge and skills to work with young children aged 0-12 years in a variety of settings. Students graduate with over 600 hours of practical experience.

Students also have the unique opportunity to complete a placement in our on-site EarlyON Child and Family Centre. Our on-site Parent and Professional Resource Centre offers valuable resources for curriculum planning, research, and professional development.

The Quality Engineering Management Ontario Graduate Certificate program provides individuals with the knowledge and techniques to improve the delivery and quality of goods and services. The focus of the program is the achievement of performance excellence in manufacturing and business processes through the use of modern quality improvement methods.

On completion of the program, the graduate will be able to contribute to the role of creating value in an organization and will be able to apply modern quality techniques and procedures to solve problems and enhance the quality of goods and services, to eliminate waste and improve value to the end customer.

The principles examined in this program are applied to a wide variety of industries. It includes skills training that recognizes the needs of the traditional manufacturing base, and also provides the proficiencies demanded by many technology-focused industries.

Environmental Technicians, specializing in water and wastewater, are in demand in Ontario for a variety of sectors including mining, the public service and private industry. The Environmental Technician – Water & Wastewater Systems Operations College diploma is a fast-track to qualification for employment as a licensed drinking water operator in Ontario. In addition, this program shares a delivery of courses with Northern College and as such, certain lectures will be delivered remotely via a virtual classroom.

Students enrolled in this program will train in Lambton College’s new Centre of Excellence in Energy & Bio-Industrial Technologies. The Centre offers state-of-practice technology laboratories and infrastructure to support learning and research in next-generation technologies in collaboration with industry.

The program has an innovative delivery model, allowing students to graduate faster – in two years instead of three – by combining theory and practical systems operator experience, in conjunction with three co-op work terms.

Students can expect to be exposed to both operating water treatment facilities and pilot-scale systems during their studies. The conversion of raw water to safe drinking water is the goal and students are immersed in every step of the process.

The curriculum focuses on preparing students to write the Ontario Operator-in-Training examinations and the Drinking Water Operators Entry-Level Course through the Walkerton Clean Water Centre and the Ontario Ministry of the Environment and Climate Change. In combination with the co-op work terms, graduates will obtain the practical experience required to graduate with a Class 1 Operator license.

It is an exciting time to be a nursing student at Lambton College. Students work in Simulation Labs with both high-tech equipment and simulated patients (actors), providing students with learning experiences that are truly rewarding and unique. Lambton College prepares future nurses so they may enter the health care profession with both required knowledge and hands-on skills to be successful practitioners. Students will experience the importance of smaller class sizes and individual attention by faculty enriching the learning experience. 

Lambton College partners with the University of Windsor to deliver the BScN program. Beginning in the Fall of 2019, the collaboration embarks on a new curriculum designed to meet the evolving needs of the 21st century nursing student and future nurse. Throughout Canada only certified Power Engineers are permitted to operate, maintain and manage equipment such as boilers, compressors, turbines and refrigeration units. Lambton College’s newly renovated closed loop 107 KW power generation plant operates exclusively as a training facility and is located in Centre of Excellence in Energy & Bio-Industrial Technologies. This is the only training unit of its kind in Ontario and students work collaboratively to generate and operate the power plant. In addition, the Centre also offers many other state-of-practice laboratories including distillation pilot plants, water treatment facilities, computer simulators, electrical and control systems and much more. You will gain knowledge and skills of plant operations and maintenance focusing on the 4th Class level in year one and the 3rd Class level in year two.

There are 4 different levels of Operating Engineer status granted by the Technical Standards and Safety Authority (TSSA), each level involving more complex tasks which qualify individuals for higher level employment. The first two years of Lambton College’s Power Engineering curriculum will make up the Power Engineering Technician, or PETN program. This program follows the curriculum of the standardized Power Engineer’s examination committee (SOPEEC) and prepares students to write the Technical Standards and Safety Authority (TSSA) examinations for 4th, 3rd class certification.  

Steam Time Reduction
Importantly, successful completion of our unique curriculum will allow students to qualify for “steam time reduction”. Steam time reduction decreases the time required working in industry to qualify for their Power Engineering certification. Students who successfully pass their 1st and 2nd term courses qualify for a 9-month steam time reduction. Students who complete the 4th Class Power Engineering certification, including both TSSA examinations (4A & 4B) and obtain a 4-month CO-OP prior to the 3rd and 4th academic terms will qualify for 11 months of 3rd Class steam time reduction. Successful completion of the PETN program along with that CO-OP will result in a reduction of 20 months of steam time towards 3rd class certification.

The Lambton College Canadian Culinary Operations, Ontario College Graduate Certificate is a two-year program that introduces students to the traditional as well as the unique practices of Canadian-inspired culinary dishes. Students experience all facets of the Canadian food industry where trends and dining culture are constantly evolving.

Program curriculum reflects the demanding knowledge and skills required of a successful culinary professional who must constantly adapt to all Canadian industry standards regardless of the enterprise. Faculty are committed to sharing with students the importance of sustainable practices as it applies to purchasing and preparing local foods in various Canadian environments. Specific courses on applied nutrition, geographical gastronomy and the science of food and beverage reflect changing consumer tastes.

Program graduates may perform effectively as members of food and beverage service teams in Canadian establishments. They are prepared for employment opportunities in a range of settings including: restaurants, bakeries, hotels, spas, motels, resorts, cruise ships, hospitals, industrial kitchens, long-term care institutions, and catering companies. Some graduates may find fulfillment in entrepreneurial opportunities.

Securing a Co-op Placement
The job market for co-op is very competitive and students are expected to be active participants in their job searches, this includes demonstrated activity on the myCareer System.
Lambton College cannot guarantee co-op positions for students. Success in finding a co-op involves a number of factors that are not controlled by Lambton College.
Limited assistance is provided to students in finding co-op placements. Students will also be expected to canvass employers to find their own placements. Completing a co-op work term is mandatory for graduation.
Any student who secures his or her own co-op position must verify with the Co-op & Career Advisor assigned to the program that the proposed co-op is appropriate and will be approved before accepting the position.
