The dynamic field of Human Resources is critical in today's competitive environment. Companies now recognize that strong management of their human resources provides a competitive advantage and leads to organizational success. This program is designed to provide university and college graduates with essential business skills and a strong foundation in Human Resources. Students also complete a four-month full-time work term gaining valuable work experience and insight into the Human Resources profession.

In the first term, students complete courses that provide them with the necessary knowledge of all the major business disciplines including marketing, accounting and technology. In subsequent terms, students complete all of the courses necessary to write the Comprehensive Knowledge Exam which is required to obtain the Certified Human Resources Professional (CHRP) designation (http://www.hrpa.ca) at an additional fee.

The program provides students with exposure to all areas of the Human Resources field. Students benefit from small class sizes, hands-on active learning and faculty with diverse experience in all facets of Human Resources. Partnership with the local chapter of the Human Resources Professional Association gives students an opportunity to develop their networking skills and learn about working in the profession.

The Lambton College Biomaterials & Chemical Laboratory Analysis - Applied Science, Ontario College Graduate Certificate, two-year program provides focused, experiential education to meet the demands of the energy, advanced materials, cannabis and other natural health product industries. 

In this program, students study advanced concepts in chemistry, biochemistry, biology, physics and mathematics applied to chemical analysis and complex problem solving in a hands-on laboratory environment.

Students conduct tests and develop solutions to problems in analyses of raw materials, products, or environmental samples, synthesize organic or inorganic compounds and prepare reports and technical documentation related to chemical analyses. Within the laboratory environment, graduates implement, coordinate and evaluate quality assurance and quality control procedures, in accordance with international and industry standards and government regulations. The program prepares students to analyze natural products, energy and advanced materials for quality and contribute to research and development.

The Electrical Power Distribution & Control Technician program is designed to provide graduates with specialized knowledge and skills required to pursue a career in electrical power, distribution systems, protection, and control. Working both in the classroom and in various lab and shop settings, students gain practical, hands-on experience in electrical fundamentals and specific concepts related to power distribution and control.

In addition to learning the fundamentals of electrical techniques, students will study power generation from traditional and emerging renewable energy systems, power distribution, connection to the grid, high voltage and transfer.

With lessons taking place in the classroom and in various lab and shop settings, students gain both theoretical and practical, hands-on experience.

The Applied Process Piping Design, Ontario Graduate Certificate program is designed to equip students with the specialized and highly practical skills involving the fundamentals of piping system components, specifications, regulations, and applications. This innovative curriculum will delve into the engineering of complex process facilities, including plant layout planning, piping equipment, design, and related standards.

Students will assess the responsibilities of a piping designer, and determine specific roles that are carried out in an entire piping design project. Additionally, students will have an opportunity to integrate piping design principles and industry codes that will align with engineering practices through hands-on labs.

Successful graduates will be in high demand and may find employment as a member of an engineering team in various sectors including environmental, mineral mining, and process and power facilities. Typical roles for graduates include Process Piping Designer, Piping Design Field Checker, Scheduler, Planner and Estimator.

The Full Stack Software Development program is an Ontario College Graduate Certificate that offers students the opportunity to study the most current trends in software development. This intensive, two-year program concludes with a work term for eligible students.

Software development includes three tiers - user interface, business logic, and database. Full Stack Software Developers have experience in front-end web development that includes the user interface (UI) for browsers and mobile devices and back-end development that includes developing software containing the business logic that accesses databases. Simply, full stack developers have an understanding of the presentation tier, business logic tier, and data tier of software development.

Front-end languages and technologies include HTML5, CSS3, JavaScript, jQuery, Bootstrap, React and others to develop user interfaces. The business logic and database layers. The business logic uses server-side programming languages and frameworks such as Java, C# .NET, Python, Node.js and others. The database layer includes SQL and NoSQL, and MongoDB. Additionally, DevOps tools such as Git, GitHub, Integrated Development Environments (IDEs), and Continuous Integration and Continuous Delivery (CI/CD) pipelines are essential to build and release high quality software in a time efficient manner.

Students demonstrate their knowledge and skills by developing solutions to real world three-tier (client, server, and database) problems. Major term projects are assigned that span entire terms allowing students to actively engage in the evaluation, design, and implementation of real-world software applications. As a result, students develop deep content knowledge as well as critical thinking, collaboration, creativity, and communication skills.

The widespread use of computer technology in all industries, from manufacturing, transportation, construction, education, health and financial institutions means that full stack developers are the key people shaping the solutions of today and tomorrow. Graduates use their problem solving and critical thinking skills to analyze business and industry requirements and design, develop and implement real-life, database driven, enterprise web applications.

The Lambton College Sport Business Management, Ontario College Graduate Certificate prepares graduates for careers in the exciting and ever changing sport business sector.

With a Canadian sport industry focus, the curriculum enables graduates to be leaders in management and operations in this exciting industry. The program’s curriculum prepares graduates with knowledge and skills in sport marketing, sales, sport sponsorship, event bidding and planning, facility operations, human resources, finance and administration. Experiential learning is built into the curriculum allowing students to apply skills and knowledge to projects with organizations and clients in the sport industry and expand their business leadership skills through collaborative team projects. The Business Management program is designed for university and college graduates who are eager to expand their management knowledge and skills. The curriculum has a broad focus designed to develop the fundamental skills necessary to manage human, physical and financial resources in order to meet the strategic goals of an organization. Students will learn the essential aspects of business including marketing, sales, accounting, finance, human resources management and business communications. The food industry finds itself responding to consumer demands for more refined, sophisticated, and convenient products with an increased responsibility for processors in terms of food safety and quality assurance standards. To help support the ever increasing demand to attract highly-skilled workers to the growing food and beverage processing industry in Ontario, the Food Safety and Quality Assurance Management, Ontario College Graduate Certificate program provides extensive, hands-on training for careers in food and beverage processing, safety and quality assurance. This four term, full-time program is designed for students with previous degrees or diplomas in related sciences, engineering or food safety, and will add to previous education and skills that directly apply to the food processing environment.

Curriculum focuses on principles of food safety and quality assurance standards applicable to the Canadian food and beverage processing industries. Food Chemistry and Microbiology, Food Safety Management Systems, Sanitation along with an in-depth review of Canadian and International Food Laws and Regulations are the core elements of this program. The program offers a unique blend of theoretical and practical knowledge including a co-op/project term to allow students to integrate in the Quality Assurance management team.

Graduates will have strong knowledge of food and beverage processing procedures, sanitation practices, HACCP principles, health and safety practices, food safety standards, as well as good communication, leadership and problem solving skills.

This two-year program will prepare students for a profession that provides services and advocacy for individuals with a wide range of cognitive, physical, social, and emotional limitations. During the program, students will learn theoretical foundations and practical skills which will allow them to competently work through the therapeutic recreation process.

The practice of Recreation Therapy is based on the belief that play, recreation and leisure are essential to achieving an individual’s optimal health and sense of wellbeing which leads to improved quality of life. Through the development of meaningful goals and objectives individuals working in the field of Recreation Therapy will use recreation as a therapeutic tool to improve health and restore wellness.

Through volunteering, field placements, and a variety of community experiences, students will receive valuable hands on experience. These experiences will provide students with the opportunity to further develop their skills in the areas of assessment, program development, planning and evaluations. In addition, students will have the opportunity to receive additional specialized training while enrolled in the Recreation Therapy program, such as Gentle Persuasive Approach and Mental Health First Aid.
