Political Science is a multi-faceted discipline covering many areas of specialization. While students can choose from a wide variety of first and second year Political Science courses at Langara College, they will develop a common set of skills designed to enable them to gain an enriched appreciation of the complexity of political life, while developing an enhanced ability to think critically about the world in which we live. Political Science courses at Langara are also intended to provide a preparation for subsequent courses at the senior undergraduate level which build and reinforce levels of experience gained at this stage.

The Certificate in Art History is intended for students in all disciplines who are interested in developing visual literacy, an indispensable skill that will allow them to recognize, interpret, and appreciate meaning in our image-saturated world.

In a time of increasing globalization, where human activity is now seen to have far reaching, often adverse, implications for the worlds ecosystems it is essential to have the awareness, knowledge, skill and experience to address these issues.  Environmental understanding, protection and remediation are significant, growing concerns in today’s society.  Environmental Studies at Langara College is an interdisciplinary program within the Department of Interdisciplinary Studies. It draws from four critical study areas - biology, chemistry, english, geography – as well as including a number of specific environmental courses.  Elective courses are chosen from a wide range of subjects to suit a particular student’s interests.  A one-week field school is conducted at the end of the second year.

The Health Care Assistant certificate program offers theory courses and practicum placements that equip you with the skills and knowledge needed to provide safe and compassionate care to clients.

Explore new opportunities and broaden your knowledge in the health care field while you apply your skills in patient-centred care environments. Gain experience by promoting the physical, emotional, and mental well-being of clients.

Students in this program will develop the knowledge, skills, and attitudes necessary to function effectively as front-line caregivers and respected members of the health care team. Upon completion of the program, graduates are prepared to work in a variety of settings including home support, assisted living, residential/complex care, special care units, other home and community care settings, and some acute care settings.

Our Advanced 3D Animation program is designed to provide you with comprehensive 3D animation skills so that you are prepared and confident to enter production-ready roles upon graduation. Shaped for students with an established background in art, this program prepares students for a rewarding career through expert-taught courses, interactions with and feedback from industry representatives, and a program curriculum crafted to develop artists into skilled and specialized professionals ready to launch their own journey into digital production.

Leveraging the strength of the curriculum and new facilities in the heart of Vancouver's animation district at the Centre of Entertainment Arts, the Continuing Studies Diploma in Advanced 3D Animation supports students through a two-year, full-time program that offers a comprehensive coverage of core practical and artistic skills. In addition to training students for a career after graduation, the program enables students to hone their strengths and shape a specialized professional focus.

Family Studies is a two-year program for students interested in the nature of long-term relationships to further career and/or personal objectives. Students can achieve either a Diploma in Family Studies or an Associate of Arts Degree with a concentration in Family Studies. The program's interdisciplinary approach provides students with a variety of interpretations of the concept of family from the Social Sciences and Humanities. The core courses set the stage for this exploration by offering sociological, psychological, philosophical, literary and historical perspectives on families in Canada and elsewhere. Guest speakers from academia and related professions enhance the core courses by providing innovative analyses and experiential accounts. Each of the required and elective courses adds to an understanding of the complex issues surrounding the social construction of family. The Family Studies program at Langara College is unique in the B.C. College system.

The animation industry is one of the fastest growing global job sectors. Our 16-month intensive diploma program equips students with the skills they need to thrive in this exciting field.

Combine your artistic abilities with technical skills through our 2D animation and digital art program. Draw and design your own characters and bring them to life through animation, sound, and storytelling. You’ll learn how to capture movement and form through life drawing and how to move a project from storyboard to final product under the guidance of expert instructors. Students receive their own laptop (loaded with all the required licensed software) as well as a drawing tablet and external hard drive, all of which they keep after graduation.

This in-depth program prepares graduates for a range of roles in the animation industry. Our program runs for four consecutive terms to fast-track you into launching your career, simulating the intensity of working in a real-world production studio. Graduates will exit the program with a diploma from one of BC’s most respected public colleges and a professional portfolio and demo reel.

The Centre for Arts and Technology has been running their 2D and 3D animation programs for 20 years, fine-tuning their program to keep pace with industry expectations. We are proud to offer their program curriculum at Langara.

The Diploma in Arts and Science (Commerce) Program provides courses needed for equivalency to pre-Commerce and first-year Commerce. The diploma program in place at Langara College is geared more specifically to UBC, but if space is available and with some amendments, this program also facilitates transfer to SFU and UVic. (Please consult with a counsellor regarding requirements.) The diploma program also provides a basis for entry into general business fields and a business-oriented direction for mathematically inclined students. The program leads to a Diploma in Arts and Science (Commerce). It is also possible for students to complete an Associate of Arts Degree in Commerce and Business Studies.

The Post-Degree Diploma in Accounting (PDD-A) is for students who hold a bachelor's degree and wish to pursue a career in accounting. Applicants who do not hold a degree in business or commerce are advised that this is a very rigorous program. It meets the requirements for entry-level education of the Chartered Professional Accountants Professional Education Program (PEP).

Graduates of this program will meet the entry requirements for further education/certification with the Chartered Professional Accountants Professional Education Program (PEP). Some of the many areas with career opportunities include:

The Associate of Science Degree in Food and Nutrition provides a broad education in arts and sciences with an emphasis on food, nutrition, and health subject areas. It is designed to meet the requirements of the food and nutrition programs at the different universities across Canada.

The Associate of Science, Food and Nutrition is a common entry for both of Langara's transfer programs to UBC nutrition programs. Students wishing to apply to UBC Dietetics should consider applying to the Food Nutrition and Health Transfer program at the end of first year, according to the requirements listed on that program website.
