The VFX for Film & Television diploma program at LaSalle College Vancouver is designed to provide graduates with the relevant skills necessary to seek entry-level employment in the post-production industry for film and television as VFX artists and technicians, as well as the game and animation industries. This goal is achieved by building a foundation of traditional artistic skill, a solid knowledge base in film and VFX theories and principles, and by then providing students with hands-on training in various modern applications and tools including compositing and digital film production techniques.

Animated Action
In this program, students build on a foundation in drawing, colour, design and computer applications. Students have the opportunity to develop advanced techniques in various aspects of computer graphics and animation. The Animation Art and Design Diploma program provides graduates the chance to build the necessary technical and creative skills to demonstrate and present their talents to the film and game industries. Students learn how to merge art and science with hands-on training from top animators in the field.

In the Culinary Arts Diploma program, students are immersed in an environment that emulates a true, modern professional kitchen. Students hone their cooking mastery as they focus on learning to deliver the popular international flavours and techniques today’s consumers – and employers – want and expect. The Game Art & Design diploma program is designed to prepare graduates for careers as game designers and level designers in the video game industry. This goal is achieved by building foundational skill sets in game design, level design, game scripting, written communication, as well as 2D and 3D art. Students will have the opportunity to learn to write professional design documentation, design games, game systems, game mechanics and level environments, as well as apply knowledge to create their own interactive experiences. Students will also have the opportunity to create professional quality production work to showcase in a capstone portfolio project.

An Associate of Arts Degree at LaSalle College Vancouver is a dynamic way to earn credits toward a university degree while exploring interests and gaining a broad foundation of knowledge. Students can complete this 2-year, 60 credit degree at their own pace – accelerated at 12 months or the typical pace of two years. This credential prepares graduates for further study in a Faculty of Arts bachelor’s degree program at one of British Columbia’s universities. This program supports the development of strong critical thinking, communication and research skills sought after by employers.

Programmers have the technological know-how to turn a game designer’s concepts and visions in fruition with computer code. Using industry-driven programming tools, students enhance the techniques they already have and develop the ones needed to spark imaginations and launch a creative and in-demand career in a field they love.

Course Objectives
The Visual & Game Programming diploma program is an intense hands-on program with a focus on technical programming skills for video games. While the emphasis is on object oriented programming, students also study mathematics, scripting, game design, and algorithm development. In addition to core programming skills, the curriculum introduces students to a number of programming topics including graphics, physics, gameplay and tools development. 

Students have the opportunity to learn C++, Python, Javascript and OpenGL. Students integrate all of these skills during a final game project in which they create an original video game in a team setting.

For many in the restaurant business the ultimate goal is to own their own restaurant – to create a dynamic environment that reflects their culinary aesthetic and style. The Culinary Arts and Restaurant Ownership Advanced Diploma program delivers the insights and depth of understanding to build a successful restaurant.

The advanced program starts with basic culinary skills and progresses to advanced food techniques, garnishing and presentation. Students are exposed to every facet of the industry – from cooking, baking, international cuisine to managerial, accounting and legal issues. As part of their practical training, students work in the student-run, 40-seat restaurant, where they learn to prepare modern and regional North American cuisine, and rotate working in the front and back of house.

Compelling imagery carries much of the emotional power in today’s visual media, both print and electronic. This imagery is most commonly photographic. Students in the Digital Photography diploma program must be creative, imaginative, and attentive to detail as they prepare to seek entry-level employment in the field upon graduation. While building an awareness of significance in visual style, students have the opportunity to develop core values based in professional standards and practices and a skill set with a solid technical and design foundation.

Whether it is an insatiable sweet tooth or a love of warm, home-baked bread, all students in the Baking & Pastry Arts program at The International Culinary School at LaSalle College Vancouver share a passion for the pastry and desserts field. The practical training covers the basics of fine dessert and pastry making. Pastry curriculum introduces classic creams, custards, and other fillings, as well as methods for making mousses, tarts, and cakes. Students are also acquainted with creative decorating and plating techniques. 

Baking curriculum explores methods for the preparation of yeast and sweet dough products and students have the opportunity to learn the importance of weights and measures, temperatures, hand-skills, and creative finishing techniques. Students can also learn to create hearth and artisan breads and to produce and deliver assorted bread products to the schools various outlets on a daily basis – much like a true working bake shop.

The Bachelor of Science in Game Programming degree program has a strong applied focus in programming, mathematics, physics, game development, game design and teamwork and is designed to prepare graduates to seek entry-level employment as a Video Game Programmer.
