This program delivers concrete, marketable skills with a dual focus on financial and management accounting:

• Develop managerial skills in budgeting, product costing and price setting, eliminating financial waste and finding operating efficiencies.
• Access opportunities to gain certification in industry-leading software such as MS Excel, Sage 50 Accounting and QuickBooks.
• A third year of study provides advanced knowledge of financial and management accounting, corporate taxation and audit techniques, focused on obtaining the ACAF certification.
• Collaborate and formulate strategy in simulated business competitions.
• Learn from case studies and guest speakers from the local business community.
• Put your skills to work in Loyalist’s student-run tax clinic. For the 2016 tax year, students completed more than 200 returns — putting more than $245,000 back in the hands of Loyalist students.
• In year three, put your skills to work in our Money Matters clinic and gain customer service experience assisting students with budgeting and financial matters.
• A four-week field placement in third year provides valuable industry experience and networking, and the opportunity to graduate into a job.

Experiential Learning
Explore topics such as planning and coordination, legislative frameworks, risk and assessment, incident management systems, incident response and crisis communications to prepare for a career providing management expertise in a range of emergency situations.

• Learn how to develop, review and update emergency policies and programs based upon relevant legislation, standards and procedures, and what is required to conduct effective hazards identification and risk assessments.
• Explore developing, conducting and evaluating training programs and exercises to test current emergency management programs while assessing the integration and compatibility of various emergency polices, plans and procedures.
• Develop strategies for implementing and maintaining a business continuity plan that will ensure the recovery of normal operations for affected businesses and industries.
• Get an introduction to coordinating the development and administration of public awareness and education programs, emergency information and media relations programs.

This program will prepare you to create engaging content and deliver it through any medium. Earn a full spectrum of skills — ranging from television production and digital filmmaking to web streaming and interactive content creation. No BYOD costs. We provide digital camera, audio, lighting and grip equipment. No fully loaded MacBook Pro requirements either. Loyalist College offers the use of Mac and PC labs with relevant software to help you complete your work.

• Specialize with crew rotations in your area of interest and choose specific roles in digital filmmaking, remote event production and content creation for clients.

• Participate in studio tours and seminars such as the TIFF Bell Lightbox Series.
• Scripts written in the first year and developed in the second come to life on the big screen in the final year with a public screening

A horticultural technician works with plants and has knowledge and skills in ornamental horticulture and plant health care. Using tools and machinery, this person installs, grows and maintains indoor and outdoor plants; builds urban and rural landscapes; maintains outdoor properties; cares for turf grass and golf courses; and installs and maintains irrigation systems. The fundamentals of grounds keeping, including safe snow and ice removal, as well as sustainable agriculture practices and green technologies are also introduced.

Animators make movies, bring video games to life and help build apps. In this program, students can specialize in character animation, 2D/3D animation, gaming, visual effects, computer graphics, web design or mobile applications.

Experiential learning
Learning emphasizes practical hands-on work during a major carpentry, new construction or renovation building project:

• Practise your skills in carpentry and construction including, rough carpentry/framing, finish carpentry, base footings, insulation, vapour and air barriers, drywalling, window and door installation, interior and exterior finishes, fine finishing techniques, and roofing.
• Study building codes, work from blueprints, produce basic sketches, develop building details and create computer-assisted drawings using AutoCAD and SketchUp.
• Receive hands-on instruction in environmentally sound construction techniques, proper tool usage and jobsite safety.
• Second-year students develop advanced techniques in sustainable and alternative building, sustainable construction, green build and healthy homes, i.e., low VOC (volatile organic compounds), electrical, plumbing and HVAC systems.  
• Obtain industry-required certificates such as Working at Heights and First Aid.

This program will prepare students with the in-demand knowledge and skills required to design and build data-driven systems for decision making in the private or public sectors upon graduation. Students will learn about Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Data Science through training in predictive, descriptive, and prescriptive analytics. Graduates will be equipped with relevant skills that can be applied to a range of industries, which increasingly use these cutting-edge technologies.

•  Develop the skills required to collect, manipulate and mine data sets
•  Analyze, design, and implement AI systems through the application of systematic approaches and methodologies to meet organizational needs

•  Design and apply data models that meet the needs of a specific operational/business process
•  Develop software applications to manipulate data sets, correlate information and produce reports

You will learn how to meet the needs of the television and digital media broadcast industry by applying industry-standard production equipment, using strategies that enhance work performance an:d

• Operate industry standard production equipment, in-studio and on location, to create television, video, and/or web content for multiple platforms
• Keep current with the needs of the television and digital media broadcast industry using strategies that enhance work performance and guide professional development
• Plan and prepare interviews, scripts, and reporting content for use in television, video, or digital media productions
• Participate in marketing activities to promote independent productions and/or a station’s brand and products
• Evaluate the artistic and technical success of filmmaking and multimedia projects to build a toolkit of strategies to meet client and audience needs
• Conduct work safely in accordance with all applicable acts, regulations, legislation, and codes to ensure personal and public safety

• Participate in the planning and preparation of television, mobile, and/or web productions
• Monitor and maintain the technical quality of productions during recording and broadcasts using resources, equipment, and protocols

As our dependence on electricity grows, so too does the demand for skilled electrical workers. Electrical Engineering Techniques students are introduced to electrical principles and building construction wiring while technician students advance into industrial automation and PLC programming, preparing for tomorrow's trends in next-generation robotics.

Experiential learning
Get practical, real-life training in a supportive learning environment that nurtures one-on-one relationships with instructors:

• The first year provides a working understanding of electricity and electronics, as well as the fundamental skills needed in electrical construction and automation.
• Develop skills in electrical installation, motor control and the basics of industrial processes — including Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs), fluid power and process control.
• Hands-on work with actual PLCs in your first year, not just simulation software.
• Students gain a solid understanding of the Ontario Electrical Safety Code.
• A second year of study delivers skills required in installing, configuring, maintaining and calibrating industrial control systems, including industrial robotic and automated production systems.
•  Students can apply their knowledge to extracurricular projects, such as building a racecar simulator arcade game using only automation equipment and software.

Radiation safety protection personnel monitor and control radiation exposure while implementing safety measures. Prepare for a career working together with physicists, occupational safety and health specialists, and public health officials in various nuclear, health care and natural environments.
