In this hands-on program, you’ll earn a full spectrum of skills ranging from television production and digital filmmaking to web streaming and interactive content creation. With access to digital cameras, audio, lighting, and grip equipment we enable Loyalist College students to tell stories with impressive production values and create meaningful work for their portfolios.

You will learn how to meet the needs of the television and digital media broadcast industry by applying industry-standard production equipment, using strategies that enhance work performance an:d

• Operate industry standard production equipment, in-studio and on location, to create television, video, and/or web content for multiple platforms
• Keep current with the needs of the television and digital media broadcast industry using strategies that enhance work performance and guide professional development
• Plan and prepare interviews, scripts, and reporting content for use in television, video, or digital media productions
• Participate in marketing activities to promote independent productions and/or a station’s brand and products
• Evaluate the artistic and technical success of filmmaking and multimedia projects to build a toolkit of strategies to meet client and audience needs
• Conduct work safely in accordance with all applicable acts, regulations, legislation, and codes to ensure personal and public safety

• Participate in the planning and preparation of television, mobile, and/or web productions
• Monitor and maintain the technical quality of productions during recording and broadcasts using resources, equipment, and protocols

• Understand the principles and techniques of organic and analytical chemistry, chemical engineering and industrial processes.

• Graduates are prepared to work in research and development, analyze and interpret data, manage lab operations, assess analytical methods and develop new techniques.

Learn with leaders in virtual learning environments – Loyalist’s border simulations have been used by the Canada Border Services Agency to train new recruits.

Radiation safety protection personnel monitor and control radiation exposure while implementing safety measures. Prepare for a career working together with physicists, occupational safety and health specialists, and public health officials in various nuclear, health care and natural environments.

This hands-on introduction to residential design includes consideration of the environment, building codes and residential building design practices. It delivers marketable skills in under a year of study and prepares students for further study in the Architectural Technician/Technology program.

Bring your design ideas to life in this hands-on program:

• Get a practical blend of classroom instruction and hands-on studio experience.
• Design a small building by creatively addressing the use of space, materials, code requirements and the environment.
• Showcase creativity and analytical skills to create a design, and then bring your concepts to life with a 3D models.
• In less than a year, you will develop marketable skills and knowledge in construction drawings, residential building codes, computer drafting (AutoCAD and SketchUp), construction materials and methods, and presenting your designs.

Applicants come from across Canada for the "triple threat skill set" of multimedia storytelling through digital photography, video capture, and news and feature-writing.

Photojournalism is a particular form of journalism (the collecting, editing, and presenting of news material for publication or broadcast) that employs images in order to tell a news story. ... Photojournalists create pictures that contribute to the news media, and help communities connect with one other.

Experiential Learning
Get a well-rounded set of skills through hands-on learning in our Digital Media Centre:

• Develop skills in reporting, writing, electronic publishing, camera operation and lighting.
• Get a deep understanding of news judgment and the principles of storytelling.
• Learn advanced photojournalism techniques in digital photography, video capture and computer-based image processing.
• Get hands-on experience working for Loyalist’s award-winning online community newspaper, the Pioneer.
• Photograph, report, write and edit assignments for the student-run online news service, QNet News.

The demand for personal support workers is greater than ever and keeps growing in order to meet the needs of a retiring population. In this hands-on program, you will learn to effectively support clients in their day-to-day activities, emphasizing trust, respect and individual choice:

• Learn in small clinical and lab groups under the guidance of experienced faculty.
• Practise monitoring and recording changes to clients’ conditions in Loyalist’s Human Simulation Lab with manikins simulating realistic scenarios.
• Learn from guest speakers about a wide variety of topics pertinent to supporting residents in long-term care and clients in their own homes.
• Learn how to shop for clients and provide nutritious meals on a balanced budget.
• Learn and practise skills in a virtual learning environment (VLE) as an avatar.
• Learning combines theory, laboratory practice and clinical placement all in the same week so students can apply what they’ve learned in a real-life setting.
• Students have completed placements with Belmont Long-Term Care Facility, Moira Place, Hastings Manor, EJ McQuigge Lodge, Trent Valley Lodge Nursing Home, Pine Meadow Nursing Home, Hastings Centennial Manor, Helen Henderson Care Centre Lodge, the Victorian Order of Nurses, Canadian Red Cross, ParaMed and St. Elizabeth’s Belleville.

Art and Design Foundation offers a stimulating hands-on, studio based curriculum in which aspiring artist and designers learn a broad range of art and design disciplines. Traditional skills in drawing, painting, printmaking and sculpture are covered as well as a range of digital techniques and computer-based software, all of which contribute to the development of a quality portfolio.
