To help you get started and make connections, Loyalist Police Foundations provides eligible students with experience, observing police officers in action, at their side.

• Gain valuable field or field-related experience in two separate placements.
• Practise interpreting and applying the law from class to courtroom.
• Participate in a mock trial in a real courtroom with real judges.
• Role-play different scenarios using uniforms and police training equipment.
• Volunteer with police services in roles which have included emergency response training, front line officer training, mock disaster participation, and community policing activities.
• Learn to put personal safety and respect for victims into practice.
• Discover skills to improve your resiliency to stress.
• Develop essential career skills in ethical decision-making and conflict management.

Applicants come from across Canada for the "triple threat skill set" of multimedia storytelling through digital photography, video capture, and news and feature-writing.

Photojournalism is a particular form of journalism (the collecting, editing, and presenting of news material for publication or broadcast) that employs images in order to tell a news story. ... Photojournalists create pictures that contribute to the news media, and help communities connect with one other.

Experiential Learning
Get a well-rounded set of skills through hands-on learning in our Digital Media Centre:

• Develop skills in reporting, writing, electronic publishing, camera operation and lighting.
• Get a deep understanding of news judgment and the principles of storytelling.
• Learn advanced photojournalism techniques in digital photography, video capture and computer-based image processing.
• Get hands-on experience working for Loyalist’s award-winning online community newspaper, the Pioneer.
• Photograph, report, write and edit assignments for the student-run online news service, QNet News.

The legalization of cannabis has created a burgeoning cannabis job market, both within Canada and internationally. Develop the in-depth skills needed to support cannabis product development, inform process optimization, and address natural product quality, consistency and safety within this emerging industry.

Experiential learning
This hands-on program is delivered in collaboration with Loyalist’s Applied Research Centre for Natural Products and Medical Cannabis (ARC), Canada’s only College laboratory approved to conduct research with cannabis under the Narcotic Control Regulations, as listed on the Government of Canada’s website.

• Develop the in-demand skills needed for success in the cannabis industry through unparalleled training experiences:
  • Study in a Health Canada licensed facility on advanced extraction technologies with an array of state-of-the art analytical instrumentation. A focus on green technologies, such as supercritical CO2 extraction, aligns with industry’s transition away from the use of petrochemical solvents.
  • Learn how to apply a range of lab techniques for the extraction and analysis of cannabis to increase the quality, consistency and safety of cannabis and cannabis products.
  • Understand relevant legislations, regulations and guidelines pertaining to the cannabis industry, and explore appropriate security and safety protocols.
  • Apply your knowledge to real-world challenges through work integrated learning (WIL) with Licensed Producers.

As our dependence on electricity grows, so too does the demand for skilled electrical workers. Electrical Engineering Techniques students are introduced to electrical principles and building construction wiring while technician students advance into industrial automation and PLC programming, preparing for tomorrow's trends in next generation robotics.

Experiential learning
Get practical, real-life training in a supportive learning environment that nurtures one-on-one relationships with instructors:

• The first year provides a working understanding of electricity and electronics, as well as the fundamental skills needed in electrical construction and automation.
• Develop skills in electrical installation, motor control and the basics of industrial processes — including Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs), fluid power and process control.
• Hands-on work with actual PLCs in your first year, not just simulation software.
• Students gain a solid understanding of the Ontario Electrical Safety Code.
• A second year of study delivers skills required in installing, configuring, maintaining and calibrating industrial control systems, including industrial robotic and automated production systems.
•  Students can apply their knowledge to extracurricular projects, such as building a racecar simulator arcade game using only automation equipment and software.

This program prepares participants to monitor and control radiation exposure and to implement safety measures. Radiation safety technicians and specialists work together with physicists, occupational safety and health specialists and public health officials in various nuclear, health care and natural environments.

• Learn to accurately assess health and fitness levels, evaluate progress and develop exercise prescriptions tailored to meet the interests and lifestyle goals of every client.
• Train and teach in Loyalist’s newly renovated on-campus Fitness Centre and program-dedicated fitness lab.
• Gain applied knowledge of anatomy and physiology, kinesiology, exercise prescription, nutrition, chronic disease prevention and entrepreneurship and marketing.
• Network with guest speakers who are industry professionals in fitness and wellness.
• Assist and develop programs for personal training clients at the College.
• Earn 320 hours of industry experience in two field placements.
