Art and Design Foundation offers a stimulating hands-on, studio based curriculum in which aspiring artist and designers learn a broad range of art and design disciplines. Traditional skills in drawing, painting, printmaking and sculpture are covered as well as a range of digital techniques and computer-based software, all of which contribute to the development of a quality portfolio.

Experiential Learning
Explore topics such as planning and coordination, legislative frameworks, risk and assessment, incident management systems, incident response and crisis communications to prepare for a career providing management expertise in a range of emergency situations.

• Learn how to develop, review and update emergency policies and programs based upon relevant legislation, standards and procedures, and what is required to conduct effective hazards identification and risk assessments.
• Explore developing, conducting and evaluating training programs and exercises to test current emergency management programs while assessing the integration and compatibility of various emergency polices, plans and procedures.
• Develop strategies for implementing and maintaining a business continuity plan that will ensure the recovery of normal operations for affected businesses and industries.

Prepare to meet increasingly complex industry standards through hands-on learning in Loyalist’s newly equipped The Bay of Quinte Skills Centre:

• Follow projects from the engineering drawings stage, through cutting and forming processes, to the completion of the job and quality inspection.
• Create with new and evolving technologies such as CNC press brakes, CNC plasma cutting and 3D designing.
• Practise welding techniques such as gas metal arc welding, shielded metal arc welding and gas tungsten arc welding.
• Participate in the Ontario Skills Competition and field trips to the Canadian Manufacturing Technology Show.
• Expand your theoretical and practical skill set, along with in-depth trade practices and job planning skills, in the two-year diploma program.

Paramedics are often the first people on the scene of an emergency. They balance compassion with critical decision-making skills and the ability to take command in a crisis and help save lives.

Leveraging the best practices of paramedicine established from our Bancroft offering, the Belleville campus is excited to offer a traditional Monday through Friday delivery model utilizing our state-of-the-art, interprofessional simulation centres and experienced faculty to deliver more options to the Belleville community and its future first responders.

Firefighters are on the front line of emergency response and are an integral part of any community, contributing to public safety, fire awareness and education. Learn the skills and knowledge to prepare you for success in the fast-paced and rewarding field of firefighting with this program, which conforms to the requirements for the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) 1001.

Experiential Learning
This hands-on program is designed to equip you with the knowledge and skills needed to work effectively as part of a fire service team and with other emergency responders to provide comprehensive service in emergency and non-emergency situations:

• Practise and test your skills in simulated and controlled live fire training situations.
• Learn about fire suppression, community education and fire prevention, firefighter emergency patient care, property conservation, environmental protection, confined space and environmental hazards, and rescue operations.
• Acquire the appropriate fire service terminology required to effectively communicate in a range of situations, and develop skills to communicate professionally with diverse communities and their members.
• Explore operating procedures, and acquire the skills to confidently use fire department communications equipment, personal protective clothing and protective equipment.

Upon successful completion of the program, graduates will be eligible to undertake the OFM provincial firefighters test and upon successful completion of this test can apply for standing under NFPA 1001 as Firefighter Level I and II from the Proboard.

• Work in the kitchen and dining room of Resto 213, Loyalist’s on-campus student-run gourmet restaurant.
• Students participate in The Art of Flavour dinners throughout the year, which provides exposure to different styles of cuisine and winemaking, as well as potential job connections. 
• Earn first-hand experience in all aspects of culinary management — from hosting and service, food preparation, pricing and menu design, to developing marketing strategies.
• Students also prepare food for the Loyalist Market, a retail outlet offering an amazing variety of fresh and frozen products designed and created by Culinary students.
• Optional field trips provide invaluable experience in food and culture. Recent destinations include New York City, Paris, Switzerland and Portugal.
• Receive individual attention from licensed chefs and Red Seal pastry chefs.

This program prepares participants to monitor and control radiation exposure and to implement safety measures. Radiation safety technicians and specialists work together with physicists, occupational safety and health specialists and public health officials in various nuclear, health care and natural environments.

• Develop managerial skills in budgeting, product costing and price setting, eliminating financial waste and finding operating efficiencies.
• Access opportunities to gain certification in industry-leading software such as MS Excel, Sage 50 Accounting and QuickBooks.
• A third year of study provides advanced knowledge of financial and management accounting, corporate taxation and audit techniques, focused on obtaining the ACAF certification.
• Collaborate and formulate strategy in simulated business competitions.
• Learn from case studies and guest speakers from the local business community.
• Put your skills to work in Loyalist’s student-run tax clinic. For the 2016 tax year, students completed more than 200 returns — putting more than $245,000 back in the hands of Loyalist students.
• In year three, put your skills to work in our Money Matters clinic and gain customer service experience assisting students with budgeting and financial matters.
• A four-week field placement in third year provides valuable industry experience and networking, and the opportunity to graduate into a job.
