This program delivers concrete, marketable skills with a dual focus on financial and management accounting:

• Develop managerial skills in budgeting, product costing and price setting, eliminating financial waste and finding operating efficiencies.
• Access opportunities to gain certification in industry-leading software such as MS Excel, Sage 50 Accounting and QuickBooks.
• A third year of study provides advanced knowledge of financial and management accounting, corporate taxation and audit techniques, focused on obtaining the ACAF certification.
• Collaborate and formulate strategy in simulated business competitions.
• Learn from case studies and guest speakers from the local business community.
• Put your skills to work in Loyalist’s student-run tax clinic. For the 2016 tax year, students completed more than 200 returns — putting more than $245,000 back in the hands of Loyalist students.
• In year three, put your skills to work in our Money Matters clinic and gain customer service experience assisting students with budgeting and financial matters.
• A four-week field placement in third year provides valuable industry experience and networking, and the opportunity to graduate into a job.

Experiential Learning
Explore topics such as planning and coordination, legislative frameworks, risk and assessment, incident management systems, incident response and crisis communications to prepare for a career providing management expertise in a range of emergency situations.

• Learn how to develop, review and update emergency policies and programs based upon relevant legislation, standards and procedures, and what is required to conduct effective hazards identification and risk assessments.
• Explore developing, conducting and evaluating training programs and exercises to test current emergency management programs while assessing the integration and compatibility of various emergency polices, plans and procedures.
• Develop strategies for implementing and maintaining a business continuity plan that will ensure the recovery of normal operations for affected businesses and industries.
• Get an introduction to coordinating the development and administration of public awareness and education programs, emergency information and media relations programs.

This hands-on introduction to residential design includes consideration of the environment, building codes and residential building design practices. It delivers marketable skills in under a year of study and prepares students for further study in the Architectural Technician/Technology program.

Bring your design ideas to life in this hands-on program:

• Get a practical blend of classroom instruction and hands-on studio experience.
• Design a small building by creatively addressing the use of space, materials, code requirements and the environment.
• Showcase creativity and analytical skills to create a design, and then bring your concepts to life with a 3D models.
• In less than a year, you will develop marketable skills and knowledge in construction drawings, residential building codes, computer drafting (AutoCAD and SketchUp), construction materials and methods, and presenting your designs.

Social Service Workers help individuals and families deal with broad and complex issues such as poverty, access to needed social supports, reduction of oppression and social prejudice, educational challenges, mental health, addictions, abuse, illness and loss. This program will prepare you for the rewards and challenges of supporting people as they change and grow.

Experiential learning

• Incorporate theory and practice with extensive group work.
• Develop essential skills in human relations, interpersonal communication, needs assessment and critical thinking.
• Practise interviewing and counselling skills in a soundproof lab with a two-way mirror for observation and feedback.
• As well as faculty instruction, the opportunity to learn from guest speakers working in probation and parole, crisis shelters, seniors' facilities, Ontario Works and other community agencies.

Construction engineering technicians work in the construction industry with contractors, government building departments and engineers on a range of building construction projects. Learn how to integrate science and engineering concepts with industry-specific technologies to assist in the development and implementation of project goals in accordance with project plans, sustainability practices, and industry laws, codes and standards.

Experiential learning
Enjoy a mix of learning experiences, indoors and out, with lots of personal attention from faculty:

• Work with current versions of industry software, including AutoCAD, to create engineering drawings for land development applications and building engineering according to provincial and municipal standards. 
• The program combines classroom instruction, hands-on learning in the field and lab work in Loyalist’s Building Sciences Lab.
• Gain experience in surveying, structural drafting, testing and inspection of construction materials, project supervision and estimating.
• Apply your skills on a construction site while working one day a week during a semester-long on-the-job field placement.
• Year one is common with the Civil Engineering Technician program, allowing for ease of transfer.

This program prepares participants to monitor and control radiation exposure and to implement safety measures. Radiation safety technicians and specialists work together with physicists, occupational safety and health specialists and public health officials in various nuclear, health care and natural environments.

Applicants come from across Canada for the "triple threat skill set" of multimedia storytelling through digital photography, video capture, and news and feature-writing.

Photojournalism is a particular form of journalism (the collecting, editing, and presenting of news material for publication or broadcast) that employs images in order to tell a news story. ... Photojournalists create pictures that contribute to the news media, and help communities connect with one other.

• Develop skills in reporting, writing, electronic publishing, camera operation and lighting.
• Get a deep understanding of news judgment and the principles of storytelling.

• Get hands-on experience working for Loyalist’s award-winning online community newspaper, the Pioneer.
