The field of electromechanical engineering and mechatronics reflects the integration of four areas in engineering: mechanical, electrical, electronics, and automation. Graduates of the Electromechanical Engineering Technician - Mechatronics program will have the skills and knowledge to enter the workforce in a wide variety of industrial environments and advanced manufacturing facilities, and may be involved with the design, implementation, maintenance and repair of robotic equipment and automation systems.

Experiential learning
Learn through practical training and hands-on learning experiences:

• Interpret and produce electrical, electronic, and mechanical drawings and other related technical documents and graphics for a variety of stakeholders in compliance with industry standards
• Fabricate and build electrical, electronic, and mechanical components and assemblies in accordance with operating standards, job requirements, and specifications
• Select and use a variety of troubleshooting techniques and equipment to assess, maintain, and repair electromechanical circuits, equipment, processes, systems, and subsystems
• Maintain and repair electrical, electronic, and mechanical components, equipment, and systems to
• Support the design and production of mechanical components by assisting in the specification of manufacturing materials and processes
• Apply, analyze, build, install, commission, and troubleshoot a variety of mechanical, electrical, and electronic control systems, logic and digital circuits, passive AC and DC circuits, and active circuits
• Install and troubleshoot basic computer hardware and programming to support the electromechanical engineering environment
• Maintain and troubleshoot automated equipment including robotic systems
• Establish and maintain inventory, records, and documentation systems to meet organizational and industry standards and requirements
• Select electromechanical equipment, components, and systems that fulfill job requirements and functional specifications
• Assist in applying quality control and quality assurance program procedures to meet organizational standards and requirements
• Work in compliance with relevant industry standards, laws and regulations, codes, policies, and procedures

• Students in the program will have an opportunity to obtain the two levels of the Siemens Mechatronic Systems Certification Program (SMSCP)

This program prepares participants to monitor and control radiation exposure and to implement safety measures. Radiation safety technicians and specialists work together with physicists, occupational safety and health specialists and public health officials in various nuclear, health care and natural environments.

Graduates of this two-year post-graduate program will be equipped to help organizations prevent fraud, data breaches and other vulnerabilities. As a graduate of Loyalist's full-time Cyber Security post-graduate program, you may be eligible to advance your profession through the following certification pathways: CompTIA Security+, Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) Cyber Security, Certified Ethical Hacker (CEH) and Certified Associate in Python Programming (PCAP).

How You'll Learn
Experiential Learning, including a semester-long co-op experience

• With this hands-on program, gain the knowledge and skills needed to protect and support organizations’ cyber security needs:
  • Learn how to develop, implement and evaluate cyber security solutions to protect organizations from internal and external threats.
  • Practise assessing defensive programming and cyber security strategies, and gain experience recommending security controls for the effective maintenance and deployment of cyber security solutions to protect systems and information.
  • Acquire skills for designing and implementing cyber security polices and strategies using project management principles.
  • Develop strategies for optimizing the effectiveness of the information security in a business environment through risk mitigation and information systems auditing.
  • Explore designing and implementing vulnerability assessment procedures to identify and solve existing network security issues.
  • Get first-hand workplace experience during a co-op in semester four.

While completing this program, students will have the opportunity to acquire in-demand industry certifications concurrently with their studies.

Social Service Workers help individuals and families deal with broad and complex issues such as poverty, access to needed social supports, reduction of oppression and social prejudice, educational challenges, mental health, addictions, abuse, illness and loss. This program will prepare you for the rewards and challenges of supporting people as they change and grow.

Learn hands on in Loyalist’s newly equipped The Bay of Quinte Skills Centre:

• Create projects on the latest CNC lathes, milling machines and 3D printing equipment.
• Use state-of-the-art Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs) to control electromechanical systems.
• Create pneumatic and hydraulic circuits based on common industrial processes.
• Use welding processes to create projects.
• Design components using Autodesk Inventor, AutoCAD and CAD/CAM.
• Gain a deep understanding of machine and tool design, numerical control programming and statistical quality control.

To become an apprentice, you must be registered with the Ministry of Training, Colleges and Universities and work for an employer who accepts full responsibility for your instruction in all aspects of the trade. Your in-class learning is completed at Loyalist.

• Learn while you earn, with on-the-job training and education.
• Students in the Automotive Service Technician Apprenticeship program must be employed by a registered garage and signed on with the Ministry of Colleges and Universities (MCU) as an Automotive Service Technician Apprentice.
• Once you are employed and signed on with the Ministry, you will be notified when in-school training is available.
• Your apprenticeship requirements include completing a skill set book, 6,000 hours of on-the-job training and three levels of in-school training for a total of 720 hours.
• You can attend three full-time blocks of training, each eight weeks long, or study at Loyalist one day per week to complete your three levels.
• Learning combines classroom instruction and practical theory labs.
• Put your knowledge to the test in state-of-the-art service bays.
