The new Client Service Specialist Certificate (CSSC) is a distinctive program MITT has developed in partnership with the Manitoba Tourism Education Council (MTEC). Although students will receive the MITT credential upon successful completion, the nine months of occupational specific, career development and technical courses are delivered by MTEC in a classroom located in MTEC’s facility (Unit 3 -75 Scurfield Blvd). At the end of the program, MTEC will connect students with their numerous employer contacts for a one-month, unpaid work practicum.

Upon graduation, students will receive a MITT certificate and will be equipped with the transferable skills required for front-line employment in multiple industry-sectors. Students will also have the opportunity to receive the following industry recognized certificates in various courses and workshops throughout the CSSC program:

• Microsoft Office Specialist Certificate
• Emergency First Aid Level C and Level 1 AED
• Winnipeg Ambassador
• Handling Difficult Situations
• WHMIS (Workplace Hazardous Materials and Information Systems)

This program held at MTEC’s facility also includes:

• 3.5 hours of class time per day (Monday-Friday) for non-work practicum courses
• Industry experienced instructors
• Field trips and guest speakers
• Free parking
• Complimentary coffee, tea, water (daily basis)

Work practicum

• Qualifying students apply skills learned in the classroom and develop new skills, during a full-time, four-week work practicum with a local business/employer that has been arranged by the Manitoba Tourism Education Council.

Gain a flexible set of knowledge and skills that positions you for employment in industrial settings as well as careers in business and information technology. Through theory, lab exercises, and hands-on projects such as construction of a power supply using electronic test equipment, fabrication equipment, and soldering you will learn the fundamentals of electronic and electrical components, and the devices and circuits used in industrial settings. A work practicum placement gives you an opportunity to apply what you’ve learned and add to your skill-set through a real-world work experience and participation in MITT’s Work Skills Series workshops gives you a solid foundation in the employability and essential skills employers demand.

MITT’s Industrial Welding certificate program helps students build a strong foundation of the knowledge and skills required to design and build products by cutting and joining materials using ferrous and non-ferrous materials. Students work independently or in teams using current welding and fabrication equipment to complete projects in a learning environment that simulates an industrial welding shop. To complement their technical skills with the employability and essential skills employers demand, all  students participate in MITT’s Work Skills Series workshops.

This program is affiliated with CWA (Canadian Welding Association), CWB (Canadian Welding Bureau) and Apprenticeship Manitoba. Students who successfully complete the program and meet eligibility criteria can receive credit toward their continued apprenticeship path or earn select certifications through CWB. Graduates who meet specific criteria can also earn credit toward Apprenticeship Manitoba Level 1.

Develop the knowledge and skills you need for a range of career opportunities in Canada’s booming tourism sector— from front desk to housekeeping, food and beverage service to line cook duties—as well as an introduction to management training to position you for future career advancement.

Emerit training, which was developed and tested by tourism sector employees, employers, and educators from across Canada, ensures students meet internationally recognized standards of their profession; a work practicum allows you to test and refine your skills in a real workplace; and your participation in MITT’s Work Skills Series workshops ensures you bring a solid foundation of employability and essential skills to any career you pursue.

Students will be provided with an opportunity to develop their critical thinking skills by focusing on knowledge that is critical to successful leadership and management. Graduates of this program will be well-positioned to leverage their newly acquired knowledge and skills for leadership and management positions in a wide variety of sectors and organizations.

Leaders and managers are instrumental to the success of any organization. Although a leader can manage and a manager can lead, leadership and management are not synonymous activities. This one-year program allows students to explore the dynamics and differences of leadership and management. 

Students will be provided with an opportunity to develop their critical thinking skills by focusing on knowledge that is critical to successful leadership and management. Graduates of this program will be well-positioned to leverage their newly acquired knowledge and skills for leadership and management positions in a wide variety of sectors and organizations.

Various institutional partners and Trade Commissioners from Asia and South American countries have identified post-graduate level programs in business, management, and IT as areas that have high employment potential. As a result of globalization in various industries, there has been an increased interest in this type of training.

The Automotive Service Technician program will have its first intake in Fall 2021. This program is an updated version of the Auto Mechanics program, which has undergone curriculum and structural changes to better align with industry needs.

Hands-on learning in a shop environment, classroom theory, MITT's Work Skills Series workshops, and the opportunity to complete an eight-week work practicum combine to equip Automotive Service Technician students with career-ready fundamentals in automotive repair, basic diagnostics, and troubleshooting in just eight months. Graduates who meet specific criteria can earn credit toward Apprenticeship Manitoba Level 1.

Classroom theory and demonstrations are routinely practiced in the production kitchen as Culinary Arts and Design students prepare food for MITT’s three campus cafeterias under the guidance of veteran chef instructors. These hands-on skills are further reinforced during end-of-school-year work practicum. Effective customer service, as well as employability and essential skills acquired through MITT’s Work Skills Series workshops, ensure graduates are well-rounded in all facets of food preparation and production.

The Manitoba Institute of Trades and Technology (MITT) and the Forum for International Trade Training (FITT), a center of excellence for trade accreditation, have partnered and are now providing the Post Graduate Certificate in International Business (PGIB)  which will prepare up and coming trade practitioners for a successful career in International Business. This one year, multi-credentialed program explores the strategies needed to establish an enduring global presence.

MITT's Post Graduate Certificate in International Business prepares students for a successful career by broadening their knowledge, skills, and appreciation of the customs and practices that affect business activities when dealing with other countries. Students will be exposed to a wealth of topics related to international business, confront some of the dynamic issues and challenges of international business, and master strategies to establish an enduring global presence. This program is offered in partnership with the Forum for International Trade Training (FITT), global business experts established by industry and government.

In modern pharmacy practice, the pharmacy technician’s role is essential to meeting the ever-increasing demands for health care efficiency and improved patient experience. Today, pharmacy technicians are entrusted with assisting in preparing medications, collecting medical histories, and educating patients – all of which allow the pharmacist more time to focus on patient care.

Since 1987, the MITT Pharmacy Technician Program has prepared students to work collaboratively and competently with pharmacists and other healthcare professionals in a variety of pharmacy practice settings.

The diploma program curriculum – designed by specialized pharmacy experts to reflect the current scope of practice, as well as emerging health care trends and technologies – focuses on the core competencies of everyday pharmacy technician practice. It also aligns with the Canadian Council for Accreditation of Pharmacy Programs (CCAPP) Accreditation Standards for Canadian Pharmacy Technician Programs. Through innovative curriculum and high-impact simulated learning experiences, students are prepared for career success in today’s ever-changing pharmacy environment.

Strong math skills are an absolute must for pharmacy technicians, which is why this program emphasizes a zero tolerance for math errors. An essential part of the job involves performing calculations to determine dosages and quantities to prepare and dispense medications. Sales and Event Coordinator (SEC) is a new and innovative program MITT has developed in partnership with the Manitoba Tourism Education College (MTEC). The successful and long standing cross institutional partnership with the college and sector council benefits students in all areas of training and employment. Although students will receive the MITT credential upon successful completion, the 10 months of occupational specific, career development and technical courses are delivered by MTEC. MTEC's facility is located close to MITT, on Scurfield Blvd. At the end of the program, MTEC will connect eligible students with one of their numerous industry contacts to practice their skills in a 120 hour work practicum.

Upon successful completion, students will receive a MITT certificate and will have the confidence needed to excel in a fast paced and dynamic environment while building relationships with industry and customers.
