Certificate in Motosport Technician

MITT’s Motosport Technician certificate program teaches students how to use the tools and equipment required for modern marine and outdoor power equipment maintenance and repair and helps them build a foundation of knowledge about vehicle systems including:

Tune-up and diagnostics
Advanced technologies such as fuel injection and anti-lock brake systems.

Eligible students can apply the skills they learn in class to real-world situations during a four-week work practicum with an industry employer and their participation in MITT’s Work Skills Series workshops will ensure they bring the employability and essential skills employers demand, to the workplace. Graduates who meet specific criteria can earn credit toward Apprenticeship Manitoba Level 1. 

Work Practicum:-
The Motosport Technician program may feature a Work Practicum placement in a local workplace which provides students with on-the-job training and experience. Students will apply skills learned in the classroom and develop new skills through working within an actual employer’s facility.

The Automotive Service Technician program will have its first intake in Fall 2021. This program is an updated version of the Auto Mechanics program, which has undergone curriculum and structural changes to better align with industry needs.

Hands-on learning in a shop environment, classroom theory, MITT's Work Skills Series workshops, and the opportunity to complete an eight-week work practicum combine to equip Automotive Service Technician students with career-ready fundamentals in automotive repair, basic diagnostics, and troubleshooting in just eight months. Graduates who meet specific criteria can earn credit toward Apprenticeship Manitoba Level 1.

Theory and comprehensive hands-on projects ensure Electrical Applications students gain the knowledge and skills necessary to install, operate, troubleshoot, service and repair electrical equipment in residential, commercial and industrial settings. Motors, generators, transformers, electrical systems, and a wide variety of control equipment are among the many topics covered during the program, and graduates who meet specific criteria can earn credit toward Apprenticeship Manitoba Level 1 and 2.

The new Client Service Specialist Certificate (CSSC) is a distinctive program MITT has developed in partnership with the Manitoba Tourism Education Council (MTEC). Although students will receive the MITT credential upon successful completion, the nine months of occupational specific, career development and technical courses are delivered by MTEC in a classroom located in MTEC’s facility (Unit 3 -75 Scurfield Blvd). At the end of the program, MTEC will connect students with their numerous employer contacts for a one-month, unpaid work practicum.

Upon graduation, students will receive a MITT certificate and will be equipped with the transferable skills required for front-line employment in multiple industry-sectors. Students will also have the opportunity to receive the following industry recognized certificates in various courses and workshops throughout the CSSC program:

  • Microsoft Office Specialist Certificate
  • Emergency First Aid Level C and Level 1 AED
  • Winnipeg Ambassador
  • Handling Difficult Situations
  • WHMIS (Workplace Hazardous Materials and Information Systems)


This program held at MTEC’s facility also includes:

  • 3.5 hours of class time per day (Monday-Friday) for non-work practicum courses
  • Industry experienced instructors

Work practicum

  • Qualifying students apply skills learned in the classroom and develop new skills, during a full-time, four-week work practicum with a local business/employer that has been arranged by the Manitoba Tourism Education Council.

MITT’s Industrial Welding certificate program helps students build a strong foundation of the knowledge and skills required to design and build products by cutting and joining materials using ferrous and non-ferrous materials. Students work independently or in teams using current welding and fabrication equipment to complete projects in a learning environment that simulates an industrial welding shop. To complement their technical skills with the employability and essential skills employers demand, all  students participate in MITT’s Work Skills Series workshops.

This program is affiliated with CWA (Canadian Welding Association), CWB (Canadian Welding Bureau) and Apprenticeship Manitoba. Students who successfully complete the program and meet eligibility criteria can receive credit toward their continued apprenticeship path or earn select certifications through CWB. Graduates who meet specific criteria can also earn credit toward Apprenticeship Manitoba Level 1.
