Students who wish to work in Canada require a work permit to do so. A student in Canada can work part-time during the course of his studies and full-time during holidays and semester breaks and post the completion of their course/program.

Bachelor of Arts in Criminology
The major in criminology, administered by the Department of Sociology, aims to promote the academic study of different facets of criminal justice organizations and practices, including the legal, political and social contexts in which they operate. This program would be beneficial for students with a scholarly interest in deviant/criminal behaviour, social justice and legal issues, policing, corrections, law enforcement, rehabilitation, and criminal justice themes more broadly, including those who have completed the diploma in police studies; experienced police officers; and others working in a policing, correctional, or criminal justice environment. The major in criminology does not constitute a qualification in policing or corrections.

The criminology major promotes critical thinking about the legal, political, and social influences that impact crime and society, and our criminal justice system. This program would be beneficial if you have a scholarly interest in policing, the courts, corrections, or another facet of the justice system. Memorial's Department of Political Science has research strengths in public policy, European and international politics, as well as elections, campaigns and voting, particularly in Canada. Archaeology studies past human culture through the material left behind, including physical objects, bones, plants, building foundations, and landscapes such as settlements.
Within archaeology there are several areas of specialization. Bioarchaeology concentrates on how human beings acquired their present form and behaviour by tracing human evolution. Historical archaeology is the study of documented cultures since the 16th century. Prehistory is the study of ancient civilizations and hunter-gatherer societies.
Archaeology at Memorial
Memorial University has the only archaeology department east of Alberta. Archaeology students at Memorial regularly participate in digs throughout the province. Our department specializes in the North Atlantic and the Canadian Subarctic. Faculty interests range from the study of ancient Native cultures, through the historical archaeology of European expansion, to downed Second World War aircraft.
Experiential learning is at the heart of the archaeology major. You can expect to participate in field work, train in state-of-the-art laboratory techniques, and gain experience with the conservation and care of collections.
The Department of Archaeology offers a co-operative education option available to archaeology majors. Admission to the co-op option is competitive for a limited number of places.

Master of Applied Science in Software Engineering (Course-Based)
The Master of Applied Science in Software Engineering (MASc.SE) is a course-based master’s program intended for students with a computer science or computer engineering background who wish to upgrade their background to specialize in software engineering. The MASc.SE is a four-term, course-based master’s program offered jointly by the Faculty of Engineering and Applied Science and the Faculty of Science. Graduates of the program will have knowledge and understanding of the core areas and methods in software engineering and will be ready to work in positions of software development, computer systems architecture and design, and distributed services.
