The Master of Applied Human Nutrition program provides students with the opportunity for advanced level study in nutrition, with an emphasis on issues related to community nutrition, food and human nutrition. The programs explore the theoretical foundations of nutrition through critical reflection on current research and practice within the discipline and drawing from other related disciplines. The Master of Applied Human Nutrition is comprised of five units of coursework.

Our Master of Arts program in Child and Youth Study will help you to develop an understanding of issues that affect children and youth in our region, in Canada, and around the world. In this thesis-based program, you will conduct focused and relevant original research in areas like early intervention, child and youth development, social justice, race and ethnic relations, child and youth health and wellness, play, and more.

Professional skills
This program will help you to become a leader, a researcher, or an educator in this field. Our Master’s program builds on the knowledge and skills that you developed through your undergraduate education and practical experience. In both course work and in thesis research, you’ll delve into the theories that support the practices of professionals who work in the field of child and youth study.

Meaningful research
In the MA (Child and Youth Study) program, you will research issues that affect children and youth, as well as their caregivers, educators, and the many other professionals who work with them. Each student works with a faculty member to develop an original thesis topic, and to research and write a thesis. Recent student research focuses on areas such as children’s experiences of equine therapy, cultural sensitivity and early intervention, including persons with disabilities in faith communities, and more. The MEd is an applied (non-thesis) program designed to help teachers and educators to become leaders in their fields.

Whether your goal is to become a more effective classroom teacher, a school administrator, or an educator outside the traditional classroom setting, the MEd can help you to develop the skills to build a satisfying career in education.  
 

A graduate degree in Elementary & Middle School education will help you to become a more creative and effective teacher or educational administrator.  In this program, you will focus on curriculum and teaching, discovering how theory affects and informs educational practice. Students can complete an MA or an MEd in Elementary and Middle School Education.

What you will study in Elementary & Middle School Education
Our Master’s programs in Elementary & Middle School Education focus on curriculum in order to help you to become a more effective teacher. You will study the theories that support teaching practices in elementary, middle, and junior high schools focusing on one or more subject areas central to the elementary and middle school curriculum: science, social studies, mathematics, language arts, or French.

Your professors will emphasize reflective practice, diverse teaching and learning methods, and professionalism. You can choose from two programs: the Elementary or the Secondary program. These program options will help you to become a scholar, a teacher or a highly-qualified professional with future leadership potential. As a student in one of our graduate programs, you’ll develop a deep and meaningful understanding of the disciplines of communication studies and public relations–the philosophies, the principles and how these apply to scholarly and professional practice.

Master of Public Relations
This is an applied (non-thesis) program for applicants with undergraduate degrees in Public Relations, Communication, Business, Commerce and related fields. It will prepare you to excel as a practitioner, and to become a leader in your field.

If applying your accounting or strategic human resource management skills in a tourism organization is what you are looking for, combining a foundation in tourism with a BBA may help you to get that job you want.

BBA with a Concentration in Tourism and Hospitality Management
Complete a BBA with a concentration in tourism by taking four full units of coursework in tourism and hospitality management. The concentration in tourism provides you the opportunity to focus on your business program while gaining a foundation in the field of tourism.

Philosophy, said Oxford philosopher Gilbert Ryle, is “thinking hard.” And what do philosophers think hard about? The most fundamental questions you can ask about what exists, how we should live, and what we can know.

Using imagination and careful reasoning, students who sign up for a philosophy course at the Mount get a chance to think hard about questions like these:

• Does God exist?
• Are there basic principles that tell us what to do about poverty or war?
• Is any action really right or wrong?
• Do we have free will?
• Is science the only path to truth?

Philosophy students learn to think for themselves about deeply rooted cultural assumptions, and so experience a kind of intellectual liberation that can be empowering for both women and men. As a side-effect, philosophy courses will give you critical thinking skills you can use to advantage in any other course as well as in your career.

The Modern Languages Department offers undergraduate programs in French, practical programs in Spanish, and Chinese (Mandarin) courses. Our Modern Languages (MODL) programs allow students to fulfill requirements or recommended elective courses, and are of interest to those who wish to pursue personal or professional interests. They help those who want to study a language and a culture in-depth to meet their needs.

An introduction to the Spanish language with emphasis on understanding and speaking the language and mastering its structure. Spanish and Spanish-American cultural values are stressed in linguistic and reading materials. Note: This course is designed for students with no previous knowledge of Spanish. Students with previous knowledge of Spanish cannot take this course for credit.
