The Building Engineering Technology program is designed to train students in the analysis, design, drawing, detailing, and presentation of commercial building projects. The first year of training covers engineering technology basics such as engineering science, materials technology, surveying, and computer-aided drafting. Many courses are common with other technology programs and may be used for credit transfer. In the second year, students specialize in subjects that relate more specifically to building engineering.

Welding and Metal Fabrication each contain unique areas of expertise. This program provides you with a foundational knowledge of both trades. You’ll learn how to read blueprints and plan and implement welding and fabrication processes. This includes the cutting and layout through to fitting and fabrication, as well as common welding processes such as shielded metal arc, flux cored arc, and gas metal arc. Our program pairs in-depth coursework with hands-on welding and fabricating experience in order to get you job-ready.

Financial Managers are trusted decision-makers. They research and analyze companies and effectively communicate with clients. You’ll learn about risk and return, portfolio evaluation, securities terminology, market operations, financial planning, the psychology of investing, insurance basics, and sales techniques. The Business Administration: Financial Management program will prepare you to write the Canadian Securities Course Examination or the Canadian Investment Funds Exam. Graduates of the two-year Business Administration program who have achieved a minimum of a 70% average each program year may be able to transfer into the third year of a four-year degree program at Cape Breton University (CBU) or the University of New Brunswick Saint John (UNBSJ). NBCC is committed to furthering our university relationships; therefore, other university agreements may be available.

The Human Service Practitioner program prepares learners for a career in the field of human services.  Graduates will work alongside individuals, their families and their communities, playing an active role in assisting them to meet their needs and increase participation in society. The program focuses on assisting vulnerable individuals with complex needs who are experiencing challenges in daily life.
Learners will acquire knowledge and skills in strength-based individualized and group programming, communication, human development, exceptionalities, counselling strategies, ethical conduct, crisis response and behavioural change. This knowledge will be integral to assisting individuals to develop and keep valued social roles.
 
Within this diploma program, learners also participate in experiential and applied learning opportunities that will allow for the integration of theory and application of concepts.

The Social Service Community Worker program prepares learners for a career in the social and human services fields. By working with and supporting the well-being of individuals, families, and communities, graduates can bring about meaningful change within society.

Learners acquire knowledge and ability in the areas of human development and relations, family dynamics and support, interpersonal communications, counseling, program planning, social policy and legislation, and advocacy. In this program, there’s a focus on how to effectively intervene and work with a diverse clientele who may be experiencing poverty, domestic violence, social, emotional, behavioral or mental health trauma, or other challenging life events.

Within this diploma program, learners also participate in experiential and applied learning opportunities that allow further integration of theory and application.

Welders use electric arc and oxy-fuel to heat and meld metal. The forms created by welders benefit a wide range of industries, including: aerospace, automotive, construction, and manufacturing. You’ll learn a technical understanding of arc welding, welding safety, power sources, and electrode classifications and selection. Welding is a skilled trade that has been perfected throughout history. Knowledgeable welders remain integral to factory and building teams.

Plumbers see each water distribution and drainage system as an interesting challenge. They use hand and power tools to fix plumbing fixtures and install water systems. You’ll learn about hot water facilities and sewage systems, as well as how to assemble, install and repair pipes, fixtures and fittings. After learning how to interpret basic blueprints, you’ll have the necessary skills to layout a complete plumbing system according to specific building codes.
