Previous international and domestic locations have included Costa Rica, Kenya, France, and Trois Pistoles, Quebec. Experiences within Ontario have included placements in organizations such as museums, outdoor education centres, and correction centres. Whether teaching internationally or working with a local organization, you will get to explore the teaching and learning opportunities that exist outside of traditional classrooms.

Welcome to the Child and Family Studies (CHFS) program within the School of Human and Social Development at Nipissing University. The Child and Family Studies Program is unique with a particular focus on two thematic areas of study:

• Human Development and Learning; and
• Child and Family Well-Being: Issues, Services, and Social Justice. Students can pursue a Major, Specialization or Honours Specialization

Further, you want a career within child and adult developmental and/or behaviour services, health/mental health services, child welfare, education, justice, government, or even the private sector, and have a real appetite for social justice and making a significant difference. This program is designed to provide a means for individuals with undergraduate degrees in non-business fields to obtain knowledge of basic business functional areas within a relatively short period of time. The program’s objectives are to present essential, general business knowledge via a carefully selected group of courses, enabling individuals with an interest in or need for familiarity with business topics to gain the needed knowledge and skills.

In order to graduate with the Post Baccalaureate Certificate in Business Administration, students must obtain a minimum overall average of 60% on all courses presented for the diploma.  A minimum of 15 credits must be taken with Nipissing University to satisfy residency requirements.

Post-Baccalaureate Certificate in Human Resource Management is a one year program designed for adult learners who have completed a bachelor-level degree, and who are looking for a pathway to professional employment in the human resources management profession.

In order to graduate with the Post-Baccalaureate Diploma in Human Resource Management, students must obtain a minimum overall average of 60% on all courses presented for the diploma.  A minimum of 30 credits must be taken with Nipissing University to satisfy residency requirements.

As a student registered with any of the three major areas of study in the Department of Fine and Performing Arts at Nipissing University (AHVS, Studio, and Film), you will have access to unique research and exhibition opportunities that foster professional development through exciting and interactive collaborative ventures with senior artists, gallery owners and community leaders. Post-baccalaureate diploma will be of interest to students who have a non-business degree, and who want to return to university for one or two years to acquire a specialty in a functional area of business in order to enhance their employment opportunities. Students with a first degree in business, but who want to change their area of focus, may complete a post-baccalaureate diploma as well.

Post-baccalaureate diplomas are also valuable to international students who wish to come to Canada to learn English, gain exposure to the culture, and study in a compressed format. Many who do so have already studied business in their own country and have received transfer credit that reduces the length of the program.

Boost your resume with a specialty credential in finance geared toward one of Canada’s fastest-growing industries. In the two-year in-depth Finance Post-Baccalaureate Diploma program, you’ll acquire financial literacy, a strong foundation in investment analysis and portfolio management, and an understanding of business and financial law. Once you graduate, you’ll be prepared to take on roles such as financial planner, and financial or investment analyst.

In order to graduate with the Post-Baccalaureate Diploma in Finance, students must obtain a minimum overall average of 60% on all courses presented for the diploma.  A minimum of 30 credits must be taken with Nipissing University to satisfy residency requirements.

The Master of Arts (MA) in Sociology – Applied Social Research degree will focus on the application of social theories and research methodologies that assist in understanding and addressing the social problems and challenges of northern and rural communities, including Indigenous communities, in Canada and around the world. The program brings together faculty expertise in Sociology, Health and Populations Studies, Gerontology, Anthropology, Science and Environmental Studies, and Criminology and Criminal Justice. Active involvement in the community, government agency partners, a curriculum of research-intensive courses, and practicum placements will provide you with the theoretical foundations and quantitative and qualitative research skills to undertake applied research, evaluation and policy studies in government, not-for-profit and private organizations. There are three required courses that are the foundation of the degree and include: SOCI 5106 Advanced Sociological Theory; SOCI 5216 Research Design; and either SOCI 5217 Quantitative Analysis or SOCI 5417 Qualitative Analysis. You will be well prepared for more advanced studies in Sociology, Anthropology and Criminology at the doctoral level.
