The Classical Studies program, offered as part of the Humanities, provides a broad understanding of Ancient Greek and Roman civilizations including their history, philosophy, archaeology, art, language and literature. You will be introduced to Ancient Literature, Latin, Religion, Military Traditions, Mythology, Philosophy, Art and Architecture, Social and Political Thought, and differing theories developed by various historians.

The Classical Studies degree program provides an excellent education in culture, history and language for people who are interested in pursuing a graduate degree, attending law school or considering a degree in teaching.

Welcome to the Child and Family Studies (CHFS) program within the School of Human and Social Development at Nipissing University. The Child and Family Studies Program is unique with a particular focus on two thematic areas of study:

• Human Development and Learning; and
• Child and Family Well-Being: Issues, Services, and Social Justice. Students can pursue a Major, Specialization or Honours Specialization

Further, you want a career within child and adult developmental and/or behaviour services, health/mental health services, child welfare, education, justice, government, or even the private sector, and have a real appetite for social justice and making a significant difference. You may choose to complete one of our 2 Applied Certificates in Applied Behaviour Analysis or our Program Evaluation and Applied Research Certificate (PEAR) as you learn to improve systems and services for children, youth, or adults, across the social and human services sector.

Accounting is about more than financial controls and reporting — it’s also about fiscal and social responsibility. Accounting professionals need to show due diligence, and to think and act ethically when they evaluate options. You will be challenged to think not only about the shareholders, but all stakeholders when making decisions. You will learn the uses and limitations of accounting information through case studies, simulation, and hands-on learning experiences. You will gain an understanding of many topics, including auditing, information systems auditing, taxation, consolidation, not-for-profit accounting, hedges, and foreign exchange within your advanced accounting courses. You will participate in tax clinics, where accounting students prepare tax returns for low-income households and perform “mock audits” on local not-for-profit organizations. You will have help preparing for the CPA professional examinations. This combination of social awareness, academic vigor, practical experience, and support is what helps our graduates succeed in today’s marketplace.

Economics at Nipissing will introduce you to theories and economic models that will give you a solid framework for understanding how the world works. The structure of the Canadian economy, public policy, money, banking and financial institutions, the labour market, and the inter-dependence of nations in the global economy are all topics you will come to grasp with confidence.

You will be introduced to theories and policies related to Canadian and international economic development, and will examine social science issues like poverty, inequality, education, health, migration, agriculture and foreign aid.

The BBA Degree is structured to provide students with general business knowledge and skills and the opportunity to acquire specialist knowledge and skills. In terms of general management knowledge, throughout the four years students move from introductory courses and learning how to apply business tools to more senior studies in creating competitive advantage through business strategy, entrepreneurship and change management. Some students choose to pursue breadth in their degree program (e.g. taking more ADMN courses and electives from the Humanities or Sciences) and do not select a stream, whereas others appreciate the opportunity to pursue more specialized expertise in the functional streams of accounting, economics, finance, marketing, organizational studies and technology management.
 

This degree program examines political topics that range from the foundations of international relations and foreign policy to Canadian politics.

The Political Science Program at Nipissing University offers courses of study in Political Theory, Canadian Politics, Comparative Politics, International Relations, and Public Administration.

Experiences within Ontario have included placements in organizations such as museums, outdoor education centres, and correction centres. Whether teaching internationally or working with a local organization, you will get to explore the teaching and learning opportunities that exist outside of traditional classrooms.

The environment and Sustainability program bridges scientific concerns about natural resources with policy development and management.

Why study environment and sustainability?
We depend on the environment for many aspects of our daily lives, including food, employment, recreation, and natural resources for homes, transportation and consumer goods.  Future generations will have a similar dependence on the environment as we do now; it is our responsibility to ensure that the way we use resources now does not impact access to those same resources by future generations.

The Master of Education (MEd) program is designed to prepare educational leaders for learning environments such as classrooms, schools and other learning organizations. The program is ideal for education, healthcare and other professionals.

The program is offered on a full-time and flexible full-time (Flex-time) basis. The Flex-time option is intended to allow working professionals to be engaged in continued employment in areas related to the fields of research. The majority of courses are offered online, however students may have the opportunity to register in selected onsite courses at the Nipissing University North Bay campus. The full-time MEd Program is a two-year program. Students in the Flex-time option may complete within 3-4 years.?
