Earn an Advanced Ontario Diploma in Civil Engineering Technology in only two years instead of three. We belong to a society of builders. Wherever humans have put down roots, they have raised roofs, walls and monuments to mark their places in space and time. Builders do something no other occupation can accomplish: they change the face of our world. There are technicians and technologists at every point along the building process. Civil engineering technologists assist in recommending design parameters to engineers, conduct inspections of structures, perform tests on soils, concrete or other building materials, analyze results of tests, prepare statistical data, tables and drawings, and supervise construction projects. Students will learn to draw, design and inspect structures in buildings and highways, perform tests on soils and concrete, and survey using the latest equipment. During their second year, they will complete an independent technical report related to civil engineering.

The acceleration of technology will continue to transform how organizations operate and how individuals in the economy interact to create value. The skill set needed by business professionals in the age of digital transformation is the focus of the two-year Diploma program on Global Business, Entrepreneurship and Technology (GBET). Knowledge and skills from these three specialty areas will enable graduates to assume key roles in business management and new venture creations. The first year of the two-year diploma program begins with the Business Fundamentals certificate courses, which form the common core of all Northern College’s Business programs. In the second year of the program students will begin their specialty studies in the programs three specialty areas. Student having completed the business fundamentals program may complete the second year of the GBET program to earn their diploma.

Practically all businesses depend on Information Technology. There is a growing need for companies to understand and strategically manage huge quantities of information allowing them to grow and maintain a competitive edge in industry. This has created a need for professionals with knowledge skill sets in both the business and technology fields individuals who can turn a vision into a reality. Computers, the Internet, wireless communications, databases are all forms of information technology which are used to collect, analyze, and share information. Information systems management examines how this technology can be used effectively in a constantly changing business environment. The Information Systems Business Analysis program (ISBA) will help you develop critical skills in areas such as: application software, business data analysis and modeling, customer engagement management, business processes, enterprise resource planning, and communications. A fundamental part of the post-graduate ISBA is the opportunity for experiential learning integrated with in program. Students will have the opportunity to engage in the practice of business analysis for information technology (IT) by working through case studies and industry projects.

Employment Opportunities exist with in the Business or Technology sectors as: business or management information systems analysts, or information technology professionals. Work for banks, manufacturing, businesses within the private or the public service sector.

By connecting businesses and consumers into a single global market, the Internet has become a powerful marketing tool. Northern’s Business – Marketing program is angled towards E-commerce and is designed to equip students with an array of high-tech marketing skills. They will learn how to sell ideas and services in the web environment, use web resources, prospect and generate sales through the Internet, develop Internet marketing plans and apply a wide variety of Internet marketing tools. The first year of this program will provide students with a solid and essential foundation in business. In the second year, they will be immersed in the world of marketing and E-commerce. Practical Nursing is a five level (63 week) program leading to an Ontario college diploma in Practical Nursing. Northern College’s Practical Nursing program has received a CATEGORY 1 PROGRAM APPROVAL from the College of Nurses of Ontario.Northern College is a member of the Northern Partners in Practical Nursing Education (NPPNE). As one of the seven colleges in the consortium, Northern College delivers the current diploma program standards that meet the requirements of the national PN registration examination. Note: Revisions may be made to the program format and curriculum as a result of the College’s collaboration within the Northern Partners in Practical Nursing Education (NPPNE).

Northern’s Practical Nursing program holds as its philosophy a set of beliefs and values based on five key concepts: the client, health, caring, nursing, and the role that teaching and learning play in enabling individuals and their families and groups to achieve health outcomes. These concepts are derived from the scope of practice described in the Nursing Act 1991 and are interrelated, interdependent and integrated throughout the curriculum. Registered Practical Nurses work with individuals, families and groups (autonomously or in consultation with nursing and other team members) to plan, implement, and evaluate outcomes-based nursing care, services and programs that promote health and rehabilitation, prevent injury and disease, maintain and restore health, and provide palliation.

Business Fundamentals is a common first year business program for Northern College’s two-year business programs in Accounting, Human Resources, Marketing, Business General studies, and Global Business, Entrepreneurship, and Technology. This program offers intakes in September and January. Students starting in January take two semesters of study ending in early July, and then continue with second year studies in the fall.

The Healthcare Management Program is designed for both domestic and international students with experience in the health care field who are seeking to enhance their existing post-secondary credentials and looking to transition into management roles in emerging healthcare environments, within the Ontario and Canadian healthcare context. Comprehension of patient needs, socio-cultural factors, behaviors and health services information are key focus areas of this program and will enable students to develop new skills in the areas of leadership, human resources management, conflict resolution, and strategic thinking.

The Pre-Health Sciences Pathway to Advanced Diplomas and Degrees program prepares graduates for success in professional health career programs. This program provides an admissions pathway into the Bachelor of Science – Nursing, Practical Nursing, and Paramedic programs at Northern College. It also provides admission requirements for most health career programs offered at other Ontario community colleges and is a partner in several university articulation agreements.

Designed for those interested in gaining entrance to and/or a competitive advantage in the mineral exploration job market. This program provides students with the entry-level knowledge and skills to function as a valuable member of a mineral exploration team on projects in grassroots exploration to mine-site exploration. The two-semester program incorporates both classroom teaching and valuable hands-on experience during a culminating two-week field school. The modular format and distance or in-class delivery of this program provides the flexibility for students to study while maintaining their employment and caters to students in remote northern communities. Graduates are ready to enter the job market with a college certificate after only one year of study.

The Business – Human Resources program will prepare students to participate in staffing, performance management, training, employee relations, health and safety, and benefits and compensation administration functions. Students will develop skills in communication, information technology, and teamwork, and will learn organizational development strategies to support the human resources activities of an organization.
