There is an urgent need for individuals who can grapple with massive amounts of data and extract key information. As a Computer Science student in the Data Science specialization, you will develop the knowledge, skills, and tools, to set you up for success in this desirable job market. You will also develop critical problem-solving, analytical, and computational skills that will enable you to turn vast quantities of data into insight.

The Mechatronics Engineering program is an interdisciplinary engineering field. It integrates mechanical and electrical systems with real-time control, combining hardware with software to produce new devices such as consumer products, medical devices, high- tech automobile systems and robots.

Foundation year

• All Engineering students begin with a common foundation year, regardless of the program of study. During the foundation year, you will learn about the various Engineering programs available.

• Optional internship and co-op placements provide you with the opportunity to gain meaningful hands-on experience.

In a time in which communications and digital media is ubiquitous, Communication and Digital Media Studies is a cutting-edge program designed to provide you with a strong foundation in scholarly, civic, and professional knowledge and skills pertaining to the roles, practices and impacts of communication and digital media in society.

You will learn about the fast-changing communication environment in which we live, explore the social and cultural impacts of many media and technology, and hone professionally relevant communication skills. You will develop specialized knowledge about how a range of media forms like TV shows, films, video games, wearables, smartphones, tablets, blogs, social networking platforms and search engines are changing the world. You will become a strong communicator who is able to present your ideas in a variety of forms such as research essays, case studies, journals, blogs, digital stories, mini-TED Talks, debates and videos.

Experiential learning

• A limited number of fourth-year students are granted an opportunity to participate in a learning experience with a community organization. The practicum course consists of 100 hours of fieldwork, several in-class seminars and a set of academic assignments. 

This program introduces you to all aspects of the nuclear fuel cycle, from mining to plant operation to waste management. Our curriculum includes courses in nuclear plant design, radiation protection, nuclear chemistry and materials, heat transport, steam-generation systems, and nuclear physics. You will learn about the current operational fleet of reactors, and apply your growing knowledge to the future generations of reactors (e.g. supercritical?water reactors, fast reactors and fusion reactors).

This program is fully accredited by the Canadian Engineering Accreditation Board (CEAB).

Finance

• This major prepares you for the Canadian Securities Institute (CSI) Global Education Inc. exam, the professional designation of Chartered Financial Analyst, and a successful career in the financial service industry.

Gain practical, hands-on learning skills while studying the nervous system at the cellular level and compare it with behaviour amongst different animal groups.

This program offers a unique interdisciplinary approach to the study of neuroscience, with an emphasis on strong foundational science and practical laboratory skills.

Taught by area experts from the Faculties of Science, Health Science, and Social Science and Humanities, you'll study the nervous system at the cellular level, understand its influences on functional circuits at the macroscopic level, and learn how this forms the basis of behaviour, movement and neurological diseases. You will explore neuroscience from an evolutionary perspective, including a comparative analysis of the nervous system and behaviour among different animal groups.  Your understanding of the function of the nervous system at the molecular, structural, behavioral, and cognitive levels, will be developed through interdisciplinary study and hands-on laboratory learning in the sciences. 

Pursue an area of Biological Science that is rapidly growing and which applies to many day-to-day applications, such as health, agriculture and industry.

Astrophysics is a specialization within the Physics program. Students will explore the current state of knowledge in astrophysics, examine new and emerging theories, and utilize modern techniques to analyze and solve problems in astronomy and astrophysics. Students in the Astrophysics specialization will also develop extensive knowledge in physics and math, as well as strong analytical and computational skills. This specialization will prepare graduates for a wide variety of career options in astronomy and physics, as well as graduate studies in a related field.

This specialization within the Biological Science program consists of an integrated and focused concentration on biology and chemistry, with additional courses in neuroscience, physiology, and human anatomy. You will gain a detailed understanding of the structure and functioning of the human body.

This program provides an excellent basis for writing the Medical College Admission Test® (MCAT®) exam and for satisfying course requirements for applying to professional programs in medicine, pharmacy, and dentistry.
