Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) in Automotive Engineering (Co-op Optional)

The only accredited program of its kind in Canada, the Automotive Engineering program prepares engineers to meet the need for advancements in the automotive sector by accelerating research and the development of alternative technologies, such as electric and fuel-cell driven vehicles.

Foundation year

• All Engineering students begin with a common foundation year, regardless of program of study. During the foundation year you will learn about the various Engineering programs available.

Experiential learning

• The university’s proximity to some of the largest automotive and manufacturing companies in Canada provides many opportunities for work placements. Optional internship and co-op placements are available to provide you with the opportunity to gain meaningful engineering experience.

Energy supply, medicine, agriculture, national security, manufacturing and resource-based industries are all examples of where the use of radioactive materials or radiation-generating machines are an essential part of operations. Radiation is also used to study materials and matter on the atomic scale. Our curriculum is a combination of fundamental radiation science, technological methods and applications to prepare you for a successful career.

Our programs are designed in consultation with key industry representatives, and will provide you with necessary theoretical and applied skills to meet employers' needs.

The Mechatronics Engineering program is an interdisciplinary engineering field. It integrates mechanical and electrical systems with real-time control, combining hardware with software to produce new devices such as consumer products, medical devices, high- tech automobile systems and robots.

This program has an interdisciplinary focus, weaving together physiological, sociological and epidemiological perspectives on major health issues.

In the Human Health Science specialization, you will learn the fundamental areas of science related to human health and disease, including anatomy and physiology, pathophysiology, microbiology and neurophysiology.

Gain practical, hands-on learning skills while studying the nervous system at the cellular level and compare it with behaviour amongst different animal groups.

This program offers a unique interdisciplinary approach to the study of neuroscience, with an emphasis on strong foundational science and practical laboratory skills.

Taught by area experts from the Faculties of Science, Health Science, and Social Science and Humanities, you'll study the nervous system at the cellular level, understand its influences on functional circuits at the macroscopic level, and learn how this forms the basis of behaviour, movement and neurological diseases. You will explore neuroscience from an evolutionary perspective, including a comparative analysis of the nervous system and behaviour among different animal groups.  Your understanding of the function of the nervous system at the molecular, structural, behavioral, and cognitive levels, will be developed through interdisciplinary study and hands-on laboratory learning in the sciences. 

Forensic psychology exists at the intersection between psychology and the justice system. It involves applying the principles and scientific methods of psychology to the study of both criminal behaviour and the basic tenets of the judicial system. Specific applications include the study of eyewitness memory, the intricacies of jury decision making, effective police interrogation techniques, and the assessment, diagnosis, treatment and rehabilitation of criminal behaviour.

You will study the core areas of psychology: social, cognitive, developmental and abnormal, as well as research methods and data analysis. You will explore a variety of forensic psychology courses that apply psychology to crime, policing, the courts, corrections and other aspects of the justice system. You will also have opportunities to incorporate aspects of criminology, legal studies, health and neuroscience into your degree, with the objective of developing unique knowledge and skill sets.

Experiential learning

• A limited number of fourth-year students are granted an opportunity to participate in a learning experience with a community organization. The practicum is an experiential learning tool that provides students with opportunities to acquire workplace skills and knowledge, confront the relationship between theory and practice, and cultivate a sense of personal and professional development. The practicum course consists of 100 hours of fieldwork, several in-class seminars and a set of academic assignments.

The Master of Business Analytics and AI (MBAI) prepares students for highly successful careers both in the private and public sector where data is used to make decisions.

The MBAI will give students insight in three main domains, which are applications of AI, Business Analytics and Management issues. Designed for graduates of Commerce or Business undergraduate degrees, this course-based professional Master program builds upon the core functional knowledge learned at the undergraduate level with a focus on advanced analytics and AI solutions to business problems.

The first of its kind in Durham Region, the MBAI is a market-driven degree in an in-demand field at the intersection of technology and business. Graduates from this program will be equipped with the skills, knowledge and networks needed to succeed in today’s workplace as well as the ability to adapt to the ever-evolving workplace of the future. Students will be able to develop their strengths in digital economy, data analytics and artificial intelligence, all while building community and expanding connections with reputable industry partners. 

With over 2.5 quintillion bytes of data created every day, the need for graduates who understand how to work with data and help make sense of business, society and the planet is bigger than ever. Graduates will learn how to use the tools necessary to help leading organizations make sense of the past and predict the future using advanced analytics and AI. They will also be trained in how to manage the legal, ethical and moral issues surrounding the use of digital information in its many forms, including sensor data, images, text, voice and video.

By the end of this program, students will be able to:

• Design and construct appropriate analytics solutions to solve business problems for data-driven decision making.
• Conceptualize and produce impactful presentations to communicate complex information to various stakeholders using data driven storytelling.
• Examine, adapt, and appraise machine learning and AI models for business problems using commercial and open sourced technologies.
• Systematically examine implications of analytic models from multiple perspectives including identifying issues’ strategic value, business ethics, bias, privacy, trustworthiness and fairness.
• Analyze data and use principles of database design implementation and administration.
• Critically examine data quality and combine multiple data sources and formats in preparation of ingesting data into analytics models.
• Create solutions using AI and analytics in new and existing business processes.
• Systematically appraise and contract the significance and reliability of competing models and analytics methodologies.
• Develop an understanding of the complexity of a complete data modelling project lifecycle from recognition and scoping to model maintenance.

If you are interested in pursuing a career in education, Concurrent Education allows you to apply directly for advanced acceptance into a Consecutive Education program. This is available for the Primary/Junior program and the Intermediate/Senior program. 

In this program, you will have opportunities to participate in education seminars, visit classes and discover if a career in education is for you. You are encouraged to meet faculty, students and graduates to gain a better understanding of the teaching profession and the multiple career paths you can pursue with a Bachelor of Education degree. 

Upon completion of your degree, you will directly enter the Bachelor of Education program. Acceptance is dependent on GPA subject and specialization requirements of the completed undergraduate degree.

Our program prepares nurses who are committed to excellence and innovation in assessing and meeting the nursing needs of society. You will learn about nursing practice and the human experience of health, illness and healing. 

Collaborative learning activities allow you to take an active role in your own learning. In addition, our high- tech nursing labs and simulated learning opportunities provide you with practical, hands-on experience with the latest technology at your fingertips. 

Graduates of the program are eligible to write the National Council Examination-Registered Nurse (NCLEX-RN). Individuals must comply with the registration requirements of the College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO). 

This program is offered in partnership with Durham College. 

Experiential learning

• With the Nursing program's strong clinical focus, you have opportunities each year to develop your nursing skills and knowledge in the finest hospitals and agencies in the region through clinical placements.
• Clinical placements are a core component in each year of the Nursing program, starting from the first year of studies. Students appreciate and embrace the opportunity to apply their learning in a clinical setting. They are committed to becoming leaders in health-care delivery.
