The Software Engineering program focuses on the analysis, design, development and testing of reliable and secure software systems, as well as the integration of software into complex systems, and the timely and cost-effective delivery of software systems, that meet changing requirements. The program applies both computer science and engineering principles.

Foundation year

• All Engineering students begin with a common foundation year, regardless of the program of study. During the foundation year, you will learn about the various Engineering programs available.

This program offers a unique interdisciplinary approach to the study of neuroscience, with an emphasis on strong foundational science and practical laboratory skills.

Taught by area experts from the Faculties of Science, Health Science, and Social Science and Humanities, you'll study the nervous system at the cellular level, understand its influences on functional circuits at the macroscopic level, and learn how this forms the basis of behaviour, movement and neurological diseases. You will explore neuroscience from an evolutionary perspective, including a comparative analysis of the nervous system and behaviour among different animal groups.  Your understanding of the function of the nervous system at the molecular, structural, behavioral, and cognitive levels, will be developed through interdisciplinary study and hands-on laboratory learning in the sciences. 

This specialization within the Biological Science program consists of an integrated and focused concentration on biology and chemistry, with additional courses in neuroscience, physiology, and human anatomy. You will gain a detailed understanding of the structure and functioning of the human body.

This program provides an excellent basis for writing the Medical College Admission Test® (MCAT®) exam and for satisfying course requirements for applying to professional programs in medicine, pharmacy, and dentistry.

Mathematics is a key component of problem solving and the dominant language of natural science. It permits clear and concise reasoning about phenomena too complex to be expressed in words. This program specializes in training students to find the underlying mathematics of any process and leveraging this ability into other disciplines. 

You will learn concepts, principles, qualitative and quantitative methods, and innovative problem-solving skills. Additionally, you will gain valuable experience by means of relevant, work-related research projects.

The amount of data generated by, and available to, companies, governments, and individuals, is exploding. There is an urgent need for individuals who can grapple with massive amounts of data and extract key information. As a Computer Science student in the Data Science specialization, you will develop the knowledge, skills, and tools, to set you up for success in this desirable job market. You will also develop critical problem-solving, analytical, and computational skills that will enable you to turn vast quantities of data into insight.

Pursuing the Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in Liberal Studies program entails deepening one’s capacity for effective communication, incisive analysis, creative thinking, and critical self-reflection. The program is designed to equip students with the skills and knowledge necessary to adapt to and thrive in a dynamic employment environment. It is not just a university graduate’s overall sum of knowledge, but the capacity to increase, deepen, distribute and apply that knowledge, which matters most in an ever-changing world.

Experiential learning

• A limited number of fourth-year students are granted an opportunity to participate in a learning experience with a community organization. The practicum course consists of 100 hours of fieldwork, several in-class seminars and a set of academic assignments.

Marine Biology is a specialization within the Biological Science program. Within the marine biology specialization, students will learn about marine ecosystems and organisms, as well as have experiential learning opportunities in the marine environment via a semester abroad* at the Bermuda Institute of Ocean Sciences (BIOS).

The Mechanical Engineering program is one of the broadcast engineering disciplines. In this program, students will learn the principles of mechanical engineering—motion, energy, and force—and how these principles are used to design and build the world around us. Within this program, you can choose the Energy Engineering specialization or follow the comprehensive program. 

Energy Engineering 

• Energy engineering is increasingly focused on the efficient and environmentally responsible use of energy systems, as well as energy security and reliability. You will specialize in all aspects of energy, from its generation to its end use, including energy conversion, storage, transportation and distribution.

• Optional internship and co-op placements provide you with the opportunity to gain meaningful hands-on experience.

The only accredited program of its kind in Canada, the Automotive Engineering program prepares engineers to meet the need for advancements in the automotive sector by accelerating research and the development of alternative technologies, such as electric and fuel-cell driven vehicles.
