Travel and Tourism - Specialization
Gain travel product knowledge to prepare for a career in destination and travel planning. Your training will cover product and reservation systems, itinerary planning and design, special interest and sustainable tourism. You will have the opportunity to connect with industry partners in solving industry problems, and selling and marketing products at our Travel Center on Campus.

The Broadcast Systems Technology (BXST) program is a unique program and prepares you for employment installing and maintaining electronic and computer based equipment for the Broadcast industry. You will discover how to maintain and repair broadcast equipment as the electrical signal flows from the source through the audio and video mixing consoles to the station’s link to the transmitter and then to your home. You may also be involved in the design of facilities. You will also acquire professional and business skills and learn comprehensive technical applications that will help you achieve a great career in the broadcast industry.

Get hands-on with the basics of chemistry to begin your career as a chemical, laboratory or research technologist in a number of industries, from petroleum and natural gas to environmental consulting.

In the Chemical Laboratory Technology program, you’ll learn the fundamentals of chemistry and get hands-on experience using analytical instrumentation to analyze laboratory samples. Elligible students may also participate in a 12-month paid work placement program.

The Architectural Technologies program is designed to enable graduates to be able to perform and manage the fundamental duties of a junior architectural technologist. This diploma program is two years in length, consisting of four 15-week semesters. In the fourth semester, you refine your skills in a comprehensive capstone project.

The Architectural Technology program is learner-centred. We believe that students learn best when they construct knowledge and meaning from a collaboration between their learning experiences and their ideas. This type of applied experiential education means the development of the hand and mind through innovation, relevant content, engaged instructors and students who want to create meaningful careers.

The program employs a Project-Based Learning (PBL) model. This means that the “single subject inputs and assignments all relate to, and support the project work.” In this model, the repeated practice of going through a problem enables you to build up a repertoire of significant experiences. A critical feature of the program the focus on blending the science and practice of architectural technology.

You will learn by undertaking projects that simulate and simplify work practices in an educational setting modelled in a real-world environment. It is a setting where you get to practice.

Semesters are typically organized around a manageable core or central project. These projects will involve both individual and group-based work. In both instances, collaborative learning and teaching are practised. In all cases, there is an emphasis on learning by doing.

This program will develop critical thinking skills through the practice of confronting uncertainty. It allows one to see unfamiliar situations as familiar and this, in turn, allows one to have a feel or approach to problems that do not conform to rules.

Create solutions for global and local water issues with a career in water management. This program will prepare you for various roles such as water management specialist, water quality technician, watershed planner, flood planning technologist or junior hydrologist.

As a graduate of the Integrated Water Management diploma program, you'll recognize the role of total water management in identifying local solutions for global water issues. You'll demonstrate knowledge of the complex elements, interfaces and approaches considered in supporting practical integrated water management.

As a student, you will acquire specialized applied knowledge and market-sought skills developed through a work-integrated capstone research project in either water environmental technologies or advanced industry applications.

Students will have an understanding of following fundamentals upon completion of the program: 

• Water fundamentals: Describe fundamental concepts of integrated water management. 
• Policies and regulations: demonstrate how policies, frameworks and regulatory processes influence decision making in water management.
• Water cycle monitoring: explain water quality, quantity, availability and how they inform decision-making across sectors.
• Plan development: support the development of an integrated water management plan.
• Water management influences: identify influences on water management including economic, environmental, health, human interaction, climate change, extreme events, policy and others.
• Processes and forecasting: incorporate interdisciplinary scienace in determining and forecasting how water moves through a watershed and a water management system.
• Watershed risks: predict risks to watershed resiliency (economic, social and climate).
• Data: manage data acquisition, organization, formatting and reporting
• Infrastructure: plan, install, operate and maintain field equipment for hydrometric monitoring and related environmental variables.
• Global drivers: differentiate global climate, geopolitical and economic drivers of water management.
