This program prepares students to work in many different legal environments including law offices, government agencies and ministries, legal clinics, financial institutions, and various business enterprises. Our three-semester curriculum provides a solid foundation in legal procedures and substantive law ap­plicable to authorized areas of work for a law clerk. Emphasis is placed on property law, civil litigation, family law, criminal law, wills and estates, legal research and writing, and business law. Students become familiar with office procedures relating to the production of legal documents and specialized legal software programs. A four-week work place­ment provides students with an opportunity to enhance their classroom experience with practical work experience and exposure to potential employers.
 
A major objective of the program is to develop law clerks who are able to complete independent legal work as part of a team supporting lawyers in the day-to-day routine of their practice. In addition, the combina­tion of business and law subjects provides a strong foundation for career choices in other settings that offer services which apply law to specific interests. Recent employment situations of this type have included real estate offices, home construction companies, insurance companies, financial institutions, government agencies, community legal clinics, academic institutions, and private corporations.

You begin the Business Administration – Marketing program with a strong foundational understanding of business and its disciplines and scaffold your marketing abilities over three years.  You develop your marketing skills in a hands-on, experiential learning environment focusing on communication, analytics, teamwork and planning.  You create value for the marketplace and open doors to ever increasing marketing management opportunities.

Senior level courses include integrated brand strategy, strategic design, digital marketing, market research, brand management, business simulations, account and customer relationship management, and customized certifications, and two marketing placements, all of which culminate with a full marketing plan for real clients. 

With a holistic approach to career readiness you take part in Emotional Intelligence, and Work Place Big 5 self assessments, career fairs, dining etiquette and intense professional development.  You meet regularly with faculty to review customized development plans to pursue relevant personal goals.

A student graduating from the Office Administration - General program will graduate with a one-year certificate, opening the door to a variety of entry-level employment opportunities in both private and public work sectors.

Students will gain knowledge in the following areas:

• Technical skills
  • Introductory level Office 365/2019 cloud-based computer application skills including Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint etc.
  • Outlook 365 - students become proficient in producing professional email communications, creating folders to stay organized, use of Outlook calendar to book appointments and schedule meetings.
  • Students will be required to achieve a keyboarding speed of 40-50 GWPM.
  • Students learn to share and edit documents in a cloud-based environment. Using MS Teams, collaboration software students learn how to book, attend and chair virtual meetings.
• Soft skills
  • Customer relationships are built on the use of effective and consistent communication as well as the ability to uphold and maintain confidentiality. The ability to work both independently and collaboratively are skills that are highly valued.
  • Employers seek office administrators that are highly organized, forward-thinking and have the ability to problem-solve.

Do you love all things science? Investigating questions? Setting up experiments? The Biotechnology Advanced program at St. Lawrence College is a predominantly hands-on, laboratory, and practical based course. As a student you will perform genetic assays, investigate contaminated soil and water, determine food-borne illnesses, clone for proteins, ferment antibiotics, and create plant hybrids.

According to Statistics Canada, Biotechnology is one of the fastest growing global industries with Canada providing a strong and growing employer base in the biotech sector necessitating the demand for well-trained laboratory personnel. Our program employs contemporary molecular biology, microbiology, immunology, chemistry, biochemistry, fermentation and protein technology, applied genetics, cell culture, environmental and analytical instrumentation labs that offer practical training in all aspects of biotechnology with a focus on the hands-on applied skills that ensure our students are ready for immediate integration into the work force. The final 15-week semester of our program is dedicated to providing a real-world learning opportunity by placing our students in a research or industrial work site as an entry-level Biotechnologist.

The Pre-Health Sciences Pathway program prepares individuals for successful admission to, and future success in, certificate and diploma-level Health Sciences programs and other post-secondary studies. Courses in math, biology, and chemistry are complemented by studies in communications, computers, and general education. Program content provides students with the required knowledge and skills to meet admission requirements for future study in a college Health Sciences programs such as Paramedic, Practical Nursing, Veterinary Assistant and Medical Laboratory Assistant/Technician, and with transferable post-secondary credits where relevant.

In the program, you will develop the knowledge, skills and attitudes to compete in the global business environment. Graduates will demonstrate knowledge of varied disciplines including internationally focused finance, sales, logistics, marketing, advertising, human resources and research. Additionally, students explore courses using real-life case studies covering over 120 topics.

The goal of Police Foundations is to provide potential police officers and other law enforcement agents with a well-rounded education which prepares them to address the problems of the communities they serve in a flexible and effective manner.

Human Resources graduates have been trained to assist in the HR development process.

The General Arts & Science (Certificate) program offers a foundational year for students preparing for future study in a wide range of fields. For stu­dents in the Technology stream, core courses in communications, computers, and personal development are enhanced by courses in math, chemistry, and physics. Graduates of the Technology stream are prepared for future study in college programs such as Civil Engineering Technology, Energy Systems Engineering Technician/Technology, Instrumentation and Control Engineering Technician/Technology,and Game Development Technician.
